Working in groups of four, a proposal took shape for the redesign and in our case, destigmatization of the hospital. What should a hospital for future generations be prepared for? We envision a shift towards preventative care as well as increasing smaller local clinics to serve the broader Vancouver area.

We first made urban scale decisions by cutting through the 8.5 acre site creating pedestrian thoroughfares, alleys, and roads. We also decided early on that the program allotted to our site would have a third remain on the previous site. This serves the community that St. Paul's currently surrounds. Further exploration was made into the architectural elements of healing environments. Lastly we explored satellite clinics and outreach posts for underserved communities to have access to healthcare services.

Gambier Island Design Build

Location: Camp FircomType: Skewed A-FrameFloor Space: 25 m 2

Stories: 2Occupancy: 2-3

A team assembled to help realize this design bulid project during the summer of 2015. The cabin was situated on a floodplane and was designed from found materials on the island.

The team battled the elements, and the constraints of the site to produce this cozy cabin for two or three. Materials include white washed plywood, dock pavers, SPF and treated lumber, tar paper, cedar siding, corrugated steel roofing, corrugated fibreglass panels, and various found windows.

My task was in designing the stair and shelving units between stair and bench, all while maximizing space and materials within the cabin.

The Ladder and Shelving

Nicole and Vahid spent an afternoon on Rhino3D trying to visualize a fluid path through the cabin that would allow the tenant clear queues of where to go, but also provide ample storage and not create awkward spaces under the ladder.

Located in Vancouver's Chinatown district, this co-housing arrangment allows for greater interaction between the residents. Density allows for cultural mixing, public and shared spaces facilitate this mixing. Housing shoud not be a bunker but a permeable membrane. Private when necessary, while translucent and permeable at other times. These 'vertical gardens' draw from biomimicry and parametric design. Too often we are crammed in small spaces lacking proper lighting an ventilation. There is no reason affordable housing should make inhabitants suffer.

This architecture aims to free us of social status, generational or sociocultural segregation. Home returns to the community scale with the Vertical Courtyards.

An urban design proposal for the ULI Hines Competition with

This urban redevelopment plan will be a hub of activity, connecting residents and workers across the Midtown neighborhood together in a mixed-use, walkable area. Millennials are one of the key and growing demographics of the Atlanta and Midtown area. This development proposal is centered on the concept of “millennials in transition.” Situated adjacent to Georgia Tech and Technology Center, this development functions as a springboard for pioneering millennials to thrive in a live-work-play environment, fusing energy and creation. This new development will help those living here to design a life that challenges conventional notions of business and work-life balance.

Timber Research Group

While working witha small team researching the properties and potentials of manufactured timber processes certain structures emerged. We looked at doubly curved surfaces, folded panels, and a modulated triad form we dubbed the 'heavy cloud'.

Meditation Station

Location: 1401 Robson St.Type: Small Business (Spa)Stories: 3

The Meditation Station is the product of a busy downtown core and the need for those working and playing in Vancouver to find respite. The station rises from the earth and captures the daylight for individual meditation stations where classes or individuals can practice mindfulness and let go of their stress.

This project was inspired by Tadao Ando's Chichu Art Museum, materially as well as the play of light on the surfaces. It was my intention to create skylights that would open to the sun and allow for a washing of the inner cells.

Vancouver Art Gallery

Location: 163 W. GeorgiaType: Museum as StorefrontFloor Space: -Stories: -Occupancy: -

Discussion and group project surrounding the current proposal for the new Vancouver Art Gallery exposed us towards an architecture of impermanence. We hope to challenge the notion of enclosed box gallery by opening up the Vancouver Art Gallery to the street, a storefront. The Gallery should operate for the convenience and pleasure of the city and those within.
