WHAT IS ARCHITECTURE?

Page 5: Architecture Portfolio - Ricardo Ostolaza

Over the last 10 years I’ve been privileged to get the chance to travel to every state in the United States (except Alaska) and 6 of the 10 Provinces of Canada as a Traveling Musician.

DESIGN: MY TRAVELS & INSPIRATIONS

In addition to traveling internationally as a musician I had the opportunity to travel to Rome, Italy with Dean DiMaio of NYIT to do research and work on my architectural thesis project. The trip broadened my horizons and forever changed the way I view Architecture. The city’s chaotic levels of strata, filled with rich history posed a unique and exciting design challenge.

RAINWATER HARVESTING SYSTEM

1 ROOF DRAIN - Collects Rainwater

2 DOWNSPOUT FILTER - Captures and removes pollutants flushed into the system during a rain event. - Coarse filter screen removes leaves, twigs, and seeds.

3 MODULAR STORAGE BASIN - The storage basin consists of modular plastic tanks. - EPDM rubber membrance creates a water-tight basin.

4 VAULT & MODULE - Optimum water utilization within the system and a convenient acces point for maintenance and cleaning.

5 HIGH EFFICIENCY PUMPS - Submersible re-circulation pumps function 24 hours a day, and can be utilized for the delivery of water to your landscape.

6 OVERFLOW INFILTRATION - Excess rainwater is sent to a storage area that facilitates the infiltration of water into deeper soils and aquifers.

7 BIOLOGICAL FILTER - Beneficial bacteria and enzymes reduce organic wastes and pollutants to less toxic substance that can be absorbed by plants, thereby creating a perfect cycle of nutrient re-use.

8 DRIP IRRIGATION SYSTEM - Efficiently circulates water to all the surrounding plant life.
