Education at HCO
• Since 2005 educational policy• 2006 started with execution policy
• Target groups: all pupils between 4-22 years in school settings– Primary education– Secondary education– Professional education (medium and
higher)
Part of the curriculum
• Attainment goals: every pupil must learn about his/her direct surroundings
• Cultural education– Art education– Heritage education
• E.g. archival education
• HCO-education wants to be part of the curriculum, not an ‘extra’ project
Main goals Education at HCO…• Always connects the past to the present day• Shows that history is more than a school
subject • Introduces pupils with authentic historical
materials • Activates pupils• Is always about the pupils’
direct surroundings
How do we reach pupils?

In Overijssel:• Projects in school and direct

About the pupils
Primary education:- from age 9 ‘orientation at the world’ and
historical consciousness- always the same teacher: easy to organize
Secondary education:- Laws and regulation: pupils aren’t allowed to
leave school often- Different subjects, teachers- Less formal infrastructure- Harder to reach, especially schools outside
Zwolle

• Zwolle is an educational centre in the region:– Future teachers and teachers assistents– Creative professions– Administrative professions

Success and difficulties
Success:– 2000 pupils in HCO– 1500 pupils in Zwolle at school– 3500 pupils in Overijssel in their direct
surroundings – Everyone is welcome: all school types and
pupils’ types, all ages
Difficulties: - Finances- Secondary education- Further theory and professional knowledge
