Libertines- Can’t stand me now The Libertines music videos are produced with a Rock band playing a variety of musical instruments like drums and guitars. The location of the video is usually shown with the band on stage in places like live shows and festivals where they play their music to lots of people like in the song ‘Can’t stand me now’. Throughout the video there is lots of artificial lighting, flashes and reflections to not only make the band be seen, but to add to the theme and make the band alive. This stands out and matches well with the fast pace music tempo. The performers in the Libertines are dressed quite casually with just jeans, T-shirts and leather jackets. Later on in the video we even see a guitarist jumping around topless and the lighting helps this. At the beginning of the song, there are many point of view shots to show each member of the band. Throughout the song there are many close ups of the band members so we can see them singing through the microphone which makes the song more real. All the time we see medium and eye level shots of the band because they are filmed on a stage from a standing view point. There are also a few group shots of the band so we can see their dancing and movement to the song. Towards the end of the song there are a few shots of the crowd and this shows the popularity and success of The Libertines through the audience’s reaction. Different types of lighting are used in this video to show a live concert theme. It also adds better looks to the band. This is done along with lots of fast pace cuts so it makes them stand out and this allows the audience to see lots of different shots including the drummer, the singer and the different guitar players.

The Libertines music videos are produced with a Rock band playing a variety of musical instruments like drums and guitars. The location of the video is usually shown with the band on stage in places like live shows and festivals where they play their music to lots of people like in the song

‘Can’t stand me now’. Throughout the video there is lots of artificial lighting, flashes and reflections to not only make the band be seen, but to add to the theme and

make the band alive. This stands out and matches well with the fast pace music tempo. The performers in the Libertines are dressed quite casually with just jeans, T-shirts and leather jackets. Later on in the video we even see a guitarist jumping around topless and the lighting helps this. At the

beginning of the song, there are many point of view shots to show each member of the band. Throughout the song there are many close ups of the band members so we can see them singing through the microphone which makes the song more real. All the time we see

medium and eye level shots of the band because they are filmed on a stage from a standing view point.

Arctic Monkeys: A View From The Afternoon Arctic Monkeys are also an indie rock band which uses a standard instrumental line-up. This video's location is based in a typical urban, British council estate. The video is formed around a adolescent male playing the drums to this complex song in the centre of the estate for 24 hours, much to the annoyance to some of the residence. In the video we see shots of him playing throughout the morning, mid-afternoon and then late at night in the evening.

Through the use of close ups we can clearly see the amount of effort and pain that the drummer is suffering during the course of this video. Throughout the song there are lots of panning shots so we can clearly see

the location he is in and the drum kit he is playing with. Medium and close up shots are also used to see the skill and great technique that the musician has in his instrument.

This idea is re-expressed when there is a shot of three men annoying and distracting the drummer, but with his hard determination he still carries on connoting reiterating his skill for drumming. During these shots there is lots of lighting in correlation to drummer’s snare hits and to make him stand out. The drummer's appearance is of typical indie style. A parker jacket, a white v-neck and jean, overall, a

scruffy look but fashionable with dark faded jeans and a black T shirt. In the middle of the song, we see one or two low angle shots and this is done in an intelligent way to show that the Arctic Monkeys drummer of the band is very skilled, professional and popular, especially with the shot of the young girl stopping by and watching him perform. This shows that he is a real iconic model. Towards the end of the song, the location changes to a dark and empty large hall. A couple of tracking shots are used, but one of the very important shots that we see is a birds eye shot from above focusing down

on the band member. When the drummer is playing at night, there are several shots which use lighting in order for the audience to see the drummer, especially in the long shots when he is filmed far away. Lighting is used in the close ups and shows reflections of the drums and the drum sticks so we can clearly see the drummer hitting his beats. Lots of straight cuts are also used with lighting when in order to show and make the different locations stand out.
