ARE ALL HADITH IN SAHIH AL-BUKHARI AND SAHIH MUSLIM

TRUE AND CORRECT ?

SAHIH AL-BUKHARI is one of the six books of hadith acknowledged by the majority of Muslims

[sunni] as the correct hadith books [SAHIH SITTA]. It contains 7,275 hadith (2,672 without

repetitions) collected by imam Abu Abdullah Muhammad Ibn Ismail Ibn Ibrahim Ibn Al

Mughira Al-J’afari Al-Bukhari [better known as Bukhari]. He was born in the town of Bukhara

(present Uzbekistan) in 194 hijria (810 CE) and died in 256 hijria (870 CE).

It is obvious that he wrote his book more that two hundred years (200) after the prophet’s demise.

He claimed to collect more than six hundred thousand hadith (600,000) due to increased number

of narrators in his time; and after scrutiny and analysis based on preset own conditions he accepted

some hadith out of which 2,672 were included in his book; being less than one and half per cent

[1.21%] of the total collected.

Bukhari recognized that he did not include all true hadith in his book fearing its the lengthi. His

book became famous because it was in the line of political and dogmatic views of rulers of the time

[Omayyads and Abbasids].

SAHIH MUSLIM was compiled by imam Abul Husain Muslim Ibn Al−Hajjaj Al−Nisaburi born

in 202 hijria (818 CE) in Nisabur (present Iran) and died in 261 hijria (875 CE). It is said that he

collected about 300,000 hadith (because of many chains of narrators) but he put in his book some

4,348 almost one and half per cent [1.5%]. Muslim who was Bukhari’s associate and student,

acknowledged that he did not include all true hadith in his book, but only those that met the

conditions set by the majority scholars of his timeii.

There are some Muslims who believe that what is in SAHIH AL-BUKHARI and SAHIH MUSLIM

is true and correct (SAHIH) as if it was the revelation from God (while it is a personal effort =

ijitihad from those two scholars). Most of those who so believe are simple followers who do not

know those books and their history and have never read them at all. Certain sunni scholars in the

field of hadith (such as An-Nawawi), by simple partisanship, made identical declarations. Others

(like Daraqutni) opposed it and pointed to a great number of hadith that are totally inacceptable.

In 2008, an Egyptian scholar (Jamal Al Banna) in his book titled “TAJRID AL BUKHARI WA

MUSLIM MIN AL AHADITH AL-LATI LA TULZIM” gave a list of 653 hadith from SAHIH AL-

BUKHARI and SAHIH MUSLIM asserting that those hadith were wrong. Long before him other many

sunni hadith scholars such as Ahmad Al Ghumari, Abdullah Al Ghumari, Nasrudin Al Albani and Al

Kawthari affirmed that those two books [SAHIH AL-BUKHARI na SAHIH MUSLIM] contained many

hadith that are not true.

From our own perspective, we hereunder give a few samples of hadith that cannot be accepted as

true at all! It is our hope that those samples will help Muslims to adhere more to the Holy Quran –

the only book that does not contain any doubt, and is a sure tool that can help to check any hadith

that is claimed to be a saying by the prophet (S), so that they may follow them after knowledge

and evidence instead of fanatism, conjecture or hearsay.

I. SAHIH AL-BUKHARI

1. CAUSE OF MEAT TO DECAY

Comments: Everyone can notice that the above statements [in SAHIH BUKHARI, HADITH

3330] are baseless and reflect Abu Huraira’s views, because for meat to decay there are well

known biological reasons; and betraying is an individual bad behaviour that has noting to do

with gender since there are trustfull men and women and the contrary is found on both sides.

2. IS ABU HURAIRA FORGING AGAINST THE PROPHET (S) ?

COMMENTS: Can [SAHIH BUKHARI, HADITH 5355] be true while Abu Huraira

recognizes that he did not hear it from the prophet (S) but narrated it from his ownself (his

bag)?

3. IS ABU HURAIRA LOOKING FOR FAME OR HAS HE FORGOTTEN HIS

OWN BIOGRAPHY?

Comments: In [SAHIH BUKHARI, HADITH 4137] Abu Huraira assumes that he perfomed

the prayer of fear with the prophet (S). The incident [the prayer of fear] took place at Nakhl in

the 5th year of prophethood; many years before Abu Huraira converted to Islam because he

embraced Islam after the fall of Khaibar [80 Km from Medina, then a jewish stronghold] that

took place in Muharram of the 7th year after hijra as stated in the same hadith.

Hence that hadith cannot be true because it contents false information!

4. VERSES THAT WERE RECITED FROM THE QURAN:

Comments:

In [SAHIH BUKHARI, HADITH 4090], the last Sahaba to die, Anas Ibn Malik says:

- "We used to read a verse of the Qur'an revealed in their connection, but later the verse

was cancelled. It was: "Convey to our people on our behalf the information that we have

met our Lord, and He is pleased with us, and has made us pleased."

And in [SAHIH BUKHARI, HADITH 6830], the famous caliph Omar Ibn Al Khattab claims

that:

- “among what Allah revealed, was the Verse of the Rajm (the stoning to death) of

married person (male and female) who commits illegal sexual intercourse, and we did

recite this Verse and understood and memorized it.”

- And then we used to recite among the Verses in Allah's Book: “0 people! Do not claim

to be the offspring of other than your fathers, as it is disbelief on your part that you

claim to be the offspring of other than your real father.”

- The said verses were in which surat?

- Who cancelled them or who removed them from the Quran?

- Accepting those hadith will render the “current” Quran incomplete, and that is impossible

and blasphemous.

- Hence the two hadith are not true [they are contrary to the Quran].

5. PERMISSIBILITY TO DRINK WHILE STANDING

Comments on [SAHIH BUKHARI, HADITH 5615 -5616].

- Those two hadith are in clear contradiction with [SAHIH MUSLIM 5278/5279] that

prohibit drinking while standing. Hence both narrations in Bukhari and Muslim cannot be

true at the same time.

- Who were the persons that disliked what did the prophet (S) according to caliph Aliy?

- Can those same persons be put in connection with forging hadith that prohibit drinking

while standing?

- Who is right between caliph Aliy and those persons who dislike what we did openly?

6. QUNUT BEFORE OR AFTER RUKU?

Comments on [SAHIH BUKHARI, HADITH 3170].

- In the beginning of the hadith Anas says Qunut should be recited before bowing

[rukuu] ; but in his narration he contradicts himself and says it is after bowing

[rukuu].

- If the prophet (S) performed qunut after bowing for one month, then from where do

Anas get a qunut before bowing ?

- The hadith cannot be classified true while containing such discrepencies !

7. PUNISHING A SHE MONKEY FOR ILLEGAL SEX IN THE PRE ISLAMIC

PERIOD

Comments on [SAHIH BUKHARI, HADITH 3849] :

Is that information true and is it part of the religion revealed to Muhammad (S) ?

8. THE KILLER AND THE VICTIM ALL IN HELL FIRE ?

Comments on [SAHIH BUKHARI, HADITH 7083] :

- If that hadith is deemed true, it will be in clear contradiction with the Quran 49:9 that

states: “If two parties of those who believe battle with each other [with the eventuality

of killings], you shall reconcile them…” There is nothing that can be true while

contradicting the holy Quran.

- If that hadith is true, it will put thousands of sahaba in hell fire [the killers and the killed

ones] from their respective wars: 1. Small camel battle in Basra between Lady Aisha

attacking Uthman Ibn Hanif (Aliy’s governor at the time); 2. Great camel battle between

Lady Aisha against caliph Aliy Ibn Abi Talib who came in to rescue his governor; 3. Sifin

battle between caliph Aliy and Mu’awiya who rebelled against him; 4. Nahrawan battle

between caliph Aliy and Nahrawan people who deserted his army and turned against all

other Muslims.!

9. SOME OF THE PROPHET’S COMPANIONS TAKEN AWAY FROM HIM?

Comments on [SAHIH BUKHARI HADITH 6582, 6585 and 4170]

- predict that some sahaba will be taken away from the prophet (S) to the hell fire because

of what they introduced in religion (bid’a) after the prophet’s demise.

- Those hadith are in bitter conflict with the Sunnite dogma according to which all the

sahaba are correct and will go to paradise.

10. PROPHET MUSSA (AS) SLAPPED THE ANGEL OF DEATH AND

SPOLIED ONE OF HIS EYES.

Comments:

- [SAHIH BUKHARI, HADITH 1339] portraits prophet Mussa (as) as a heavy weight

boxer and the helpless angel of death complaining to God : “You sent me to a slave who

does not want to die!” as if some individual have the choice of their death time!

- Is there any negotiations between the angel of death and the one whose soul to take?

- Do angels have limbs and weakness like humans?

- [SAHIH BUKHARI, HADITH 4544] says it is (2:278),

- [SAHIH BUKHARI, HADITH 4605] says it is (4:176).

Can both statements be true?

- [SAHIH BUKHARI, HADITH 591-593] state that the prophet (S) never missed to

pray after ‘ASR openly or covertly.

- [SAHIH BUKHARI, HADITH 586-587] state that the prophet (S) said there is no

prayer after Salatul’ASR.

- Can both statements be true ??

13. IN WHOSE HOUSE DID THE PROPHET (S) DRINK HONEY? (ZAINAB

OR HAFSA)

Comments:

- [SAHIH BUKHARI, HADITH 4912] says the prophet (S) used to drink honey in Zainab

Bint Jahsh’s house and stay with her, so Aysha Bint Abu Bakr got jealous and

complotted with Hafsa Bint Omar Ibn Al Khattab to play a trick against him (S).

- [SAHIH BUKHARI, HADITH 5268] says the prophet (S) delayed in Hafsa Bint Omar

Ibn Al Khattab’s house and the jealous based complot was between Aysha wa Abu Bakr

and Sauda Bint Zam’a in association with Safiyya .

- Since that episode is narrated once in the prophet’s life, in whose house did it happen

between the two ladies ?

- Can both narrations be true despite heavy contradictions?

14. IS IT TRUE THAT THE PROPHET (S) INTENDED TO THROW

HIMSELF FROM THE TOPS OF HIGH MOUNTAINS ? [SAHIH

prayers (maghrib or isha?), by praying two rakats only.

- [SAHIH BUKHARI, HADITH 1227] says it was zuhr or asr and he prayed two rakats

only.

- [SAHIH BUKHARI, HADITH 1226] says it was zuhr five rakats instead of four.

- [SAHIH BUKHARI, HADITH 1230] says he prayed zuhr four rakats but had raised

after the second rakat without sitting for tashahud.

16. THE CAUSE FOR THE RESEMBLANCE OF THE CHILD TO HIS

PARENTS

[SAHIH BUKHARI, HADITH 3329] says that resemblance depends on who discharges

(ejaculates) first between the parents. Biologically that statement is wrong and false because even the

fecundation does not depend on the discharge, or who discharges first; rather on the uvula on the

mother’s side and the spermatozoid on the father’s side. It is a matter of DNA, so scientifically speaking

such a hadith cannot be correct at all.

17. HOW MANY UMRA (LESSER PILGRIMAGE) DID THE PROPHET (S)

PERFORM? AND IN WHICH MONTHS ?

[SAHIH BUKHARI, HADITH 4148] The famous companion Anas Ibn Malik says the prophet

(S) performed four umra: three in Dhul Q’ada and one alongwith the hijja in Dhul Hijja.

[SAHIH BUKHARI, HADITH 4253] Ibn Omar said the prophet (S) performed four umra

and one of them was in Rajab.

[SAHIH BUKHARI, HADITH 4254] Aisha the prophet’s wife rejects Ibn Omar’s claim saying

the prophet (S) never performed any umra in Rajab.

The mentioned hadiths cannot be true and correct all when they contain contradictory

statements about the same subject [the prophet’s umra]!

II. SAHIH MUSLIM

1. THE VERSE ABOUT BREASTFEEDING

Comments on [SAHIH MUSLIM, HADITHI 3597].

- Lady Aisha says there was in the Quran a verse about ten breastfeedings to make a

persom mahram.

- She goes on saying: that verse was abrogated and replaced by five breastfeedings.

- She concludes by saying the prophet (S) passed away and that verse was among the

things that were recited from the Quran.

That hadith raises many interrogations:

- In which sura were those verses?

- Why are they not found in the Quran nowadays?

- Who removed them? Why and when?

Accepting that hadith will make the Quran in our possession incomplete! And that is contrary

to the established truth. It is an impossible assumption!.

2. WHERE IS THE SURA LIKENED TO SURATU TAWBA IN LENGTH AND

POWER?

Comments on [SAHIH MUSLIM, HADITHI 2419].

- The companion Abu Mussa Al-Ash’ari says they used to recite a sura which they

likened to suratu tawba and another like any of the musabihaati sura and he still

remembers some verses from those sura.

- If that hadith is correct, what are the names of those sura?

- And who removed them from the Quran?

- Again if that hadith is true then the Quran we have would be incomplete. And that is

not true. So that hadith cannot be correct in any way.

3. WILL MUSLIM’S SINS BE PLACE ON JEWS AND CHRISTIANS ?

Comments on [SAHIH MUSLIM, HADITH 7011, 7014].

- Those hadith are contrary to the Quran which affirms that God will not wrong anyone

(41:46, 50:29), that none will held responsible for another person’s sins (6:164, 17:15,

35:18, 39:7, 53:38) and that whoever does an atom’s weight of good will see it, and

whoever does an atom’s weight of evil will see it (99:7-8).

- Hence the hadith cannot be true at all. 4.

4. PROHIBITION TO DRINK WHILE STANDING

Comments on [SAHIH MUSLIM, HADITHI 5278-5279]:

- Those hadith are a strict prohibition, to the extend that even the one who forgets should

vomit what he drunk.

- They are in manifest contradiction with [SAHIH BUKHARI 5615-5616].

- Both contradictions cannot be true at the same time!

5. CREATION IN SEVEN DAYS

Comments on [SAHIH MUSLIM, HADITHI 7054]

The Quran states in many verses that God created averything in six days. All the people of

knowledge said that six days means six periods; not days of 24 hours.

In [SAHIH MUSLIM, HADITHI 7054], the most famous hadith narrator, the companion [Abu

Huraira] described the creation in six earthly days of the week each day of 24 hours in the way

of the Bible.

It is obvious that such a hadith is contrary to the Quran and cannot be true. Some scholars of

hadith like Aliy Ibn Madani and Ibn Kathir said that Abu Huraira heard those words from K’ab

Al Ahbar (a jew) not from the prophet (S) himself.

6. PROHIBITION/PERMISSION TO PLACE ONE LEG ON TOP OF THE

OTHER

Comments on [SAHIH MUSLIM 5503-5504].

- One of the hadith is a prohibition, while the next is a permission.

- Both hadith cannot be true at the same time!

7. WHICH PRAYER DID THE PROPHET (S) FORGET TO COMPLETE? :

ZUHR, ASR, OR ISHA? DID HE PRAY TWO OR THREE RAKATS? HOW

FAR ABU HURAIRA’S TESTIMONY CAN BE TRUSTED DESPITE THE

FACT THAT HE CLAIMS TO BE AN EYE WITNESS?

- [SAHIH MUSLIM, HADITH 1288] says it was zuhr or asr prayer and he

performed two rakats instead of four.

- [SAHIH MUSLIM, HADITH 1291] says it was zuhr prayer and he performed

two rakats instead of four.

- [SAHIH MUSLIM, HADITH 1293] says it was asr prayer and he performed

three rakats instead of four.

- Despite contradictions and discrepancies, can all those hadith be true and trusted?
