Are You A Bully? Mrs. Blake 4 th Grade Counseling Lesson Fall 2014 Reminder of Counseling Class Expectations 1.Sit up on the steps of the amphitheater with your feet on the step in front of you. 2.Listen, without talking, when the teacher or another student is talking. 3.Raise your hand if you would like to speak. 4.When working in groups, stay on task and work only with your assigned group. 5.Follow all directions throughout the lesson. Lesson Objectives Identify common bullying behaviors Better understand why some people resort to bullying Distinguish between teasing and bullying Determine the types of bullying we have occurring at our school and when/where this bullying is taking place Identify one thing we can start doing NOW to treat others better Video: Are You A Bully? Before we watch the video Are You A Bully? complete the pretest on Part I of your handout. It is not for a grade and it doesnt matter if you dont know all of the answers. Just do the best you can! Watch: Are You A Bully? Video A Bully is Someone Who Talk to your group about the video we just watched. Complete part 2 of your handout by completing the statement A Bully is Someone Who **Write at least 4 bully behaviors on your paper.** Teasing vs. Bullying Friendly Teasing Both sides talk and have fun Everyone uses a friendly tone of voice and laughter People use kind words and movements There is a feeling of trust A nervous or angry mood can be lifted There are no hurtful words or actions Bullying There can be an angry tone of voice There may be angry body language, like clenched fists The teasing goes on after the person being teased gets upset Someone uses teasing to show off Someone uses teasing to hurt others Teasing vs. Bullying Questions to ask yourself: Do you want to make the person laugh or do you want to hurt the persons feelings, make yourself feel better, or make yourself seem cool? Has the person been hurt by teasing in the past? Is the person sensitive about teasing? What kind of mood is the person in? How close is your friendship with the person? Does the teasing make fun of a persons background or beliefs? Bullying at Paine Intermediate Work with your group to complete Part 3 of your handout. What kinds of bullying do we have going on at our school? When and where does the bullying at our school usually take place? Leaders Dont Bully!
