Our fundamentals

Confidential AREVAReactors & Services

IAEA – VIENNA 2015– J.P. BOMBAIL - p.7

Outage Optimization vs. Outage Shortening

Utility Goal: safe, reliable and cost effective plant operation.

PRINCIPLES:

Duration is not the sole measure of outage success

Outage work must be performed safely from all perspectives: Nuclear, Industrial, and Radiological

Scope selection must focus on improving plant material condition to improvereliability

All approved outage work must be completed

Work must be done cost effectively

Post-outage plant reliability is a key measure of outage success

Outage Lessons Learned must be effectively implemented to achieve continuousimprovement

OEM and Service providersupport to Utilities

OEM and service providers can support the utilities by performingmaintenance activities:

With dedicated trained and qualified manpower

By using specific and adapted tools (and identified spare parts)

With the relevant working documentation

Optimized tasks and pre-defined schedule in a outage maintenance window

All the activities are managed through a Quality HealthSafety and Environmental (QHSE) Manual which describesall the requirements and processes to be applied to insurethe compliance of the supplied products and services

OEM and Service providersupport to Utilities

Trained and qualified manpower:

Professional (field of competencies)

Nuclear industry specificities

• Industrial safety and Radioprotection

• Nuclear Safety

• Quality assurance and traceability

• Transparency, curiosity

Specific certification and qualification

• NDE

• Welding

• QC

• ….

Specific training

• Specialized maintenance activities

Aditionnal requirement:

• Human performance toolbox (pre job, 3 way communication, …)

• Outage knowledge: 30’ rule, critical path,….

OEM service provider/OEM manpower is usually involved in many outages worldwide which

increase their own experience and offer to Utilities some feedback or goodpractices

OEM and Service providersupport to Utilities

Using specific and adapted tools:

Limited risks for the operator (industrial safety: weight, electrization free, ergonomics,…) and dose exposure reduction.

Easy transportation and rigging

Easy decontamination

Foreign object policy considered in the design

Efficient (potential impact on the outage critical path)

Using the right spare part:

Secured by the quality assurance process and the relevant certificates

Physically checked prior to the work

Knowledge of the systems and equipments by the OEM

Working documentation

Procedure adherence during the work performance

Traceability fo the safety related equipment

Non conformance treatment if any

Optimized tasks and pre-defined schedule in a outage maintenancewindow

The maintenance task performed by the OEM or the service provider has to betotally integrated in the utility Outage Process:

• In accordance with the Outage preparation milestones:

- Planning

- Resource levelling

- Working file issuance

- Work permit and specific authorizations

- Logistis needs (rigging, scafolding, thermal insulation removal, standard tools,…)

- Post maintenance testing and requalification has to be considered

- Lessons learned integration

- Kick off meeting

- Prerequisite meeting

The lessons learned and wash up sessions have to be organized after the workperformance or included in the post outage milestones

Deep Implication of OEM and contractors in the outage preparation

AREVA Outage Optimization support

The first principle: Outage optimization has to be owned by the Utility, our mission

is to support the utility in achieving outage excellence

AREVA is organized to provide extensive support to utilities with its worldwide

experience and capabilities:

AREVA is involved with many utilities in outage optimization processes giving us a unique opportunity togather best practices.

AREVA has in place a multiregional team and hired utility Outage Management experts to compliment ourcore competencies.

Every plant is different and we work with you to address your specific needs

We understand that Quality, Safety, Production and Costs must be driven

simultaneously.

AREVA Outage Optimization support

Four Areas of Outage Optimization

A - Outage management programs - soft skills

Management issues such as planning scheduling, communications, ownership, scope control, task

management.

B - Specific task improvements - outage execution and tooling

Innovations for work on or near the critical path that typically been the domain of the service supplier tobring advanced tooling, robotics, skilled personnel to perform specific tasks:

C - Engineering improvements

Innovations applied to shorten outages windows or eliminate outage tasks such as TechnicalSpecification (license) changes, water management plans, reliability centered maintenance, maintenanceprograms

D - Modifications to plant systems, structure or components

Typically involve critical or near critical path equipment

AREVA Outage optimization support

A - Outage management support - soft skills

All items that are human behavior driven but are present in everysuccessful outage organization in the world such as planning scheduling, communications, ownership, scope control, task management.

Practical examples:

• Area coordinators

• Re-qualification coordinators

• Detailed schedule on intranet

• Replace versus repair philosophy

• Single point of accountability

• High Impact Team (HIT)

• Pre Outage milestones adherence

• On line maintenance increase

• ….
