How and When can they happen?

In a time of peace or in war

In view to the regime: revolution occurred to allow the government to change structure (a democracy to an oligarchy vice versa)

Not in to the view: the system remains the same but those in power want to put it into their own hands. (oligarchy to a monarchy)

Why do Revolutions Happen?

A regime becomes too large and the “balance” is set off

Location: not enough resources to take care of the people

Power struggle: Two individuals feel they have the right to rule.

Aristotle does conclude that revolutions

ALWAYS occur, “when those in power treat the multitude unjustly” (156)

Militant, Violent Changed used by a military or by force

Ex: Russian Revolution

Religious Revolution Revolts done by individuals concerning their

faith Based on spiritual reform

Ex: Protestant Reformation

Political Revolution Does NOT have to be violent Individuals push for change in the political

system

Ex: Tea Party in the United States

Industrial Revolution Change in the way individuals do business

Ex: Industrial Revolution in England (1750-1850)
