It’s here! It’s finally here! Are you excited? I am, for sure, and proud as I can be of the members who have stepped up to make this Re-gional the great success it will be. Well over half of the membership of this club are involved, including those who are not going up to Flagstaff because of various health issues. The people who chose to be Chairpersons are ex-ceptionally devoted to their tasks, soliciting the help they will need to cover the many hours necessary to take care of our guests, and be-ing greeted with enthusiasm all around for the job. I have been asked by several people if we will be having our traditional “Happy Hour” - you know - just like we al-ways do when we go out of town, and I say “Of course”. I didn’t add that it might depend on who is still on their feet at the end of the day and who is volunteering to open their doors! Just be sure to come equipped with drinks and snacks of choice. You may be summoned on a moments notice! Wasn’t the Poker Run fun? Kathy, Bob Michele and Mike Dolan dis-played great ingenuity by putting the run together, which ended at the shop of Sherry and George Randall who had graciously rear-ranged their garage to accommo-date us. A dazzling array of Clas-sic Cars: Several Mercedes Con-

vertibles, Corvettes, a late model Jeep, even a 37 Lincoln Art Deco Street Rod, all topped off with a brand new Tesla Gull Wing. So what does Sherry drive? A Volkswagen. Rose Marie Buzby, Karen Kearnes and the Randalls are examples of how new members are welcomed with by those of us who have been in for awhile. And I am not forgetting the ones who are participating in the Regional: Deb & John Lassell, Ellen & Doug Shearer, Debi & Steve Ulsund, Nancy & John Kidwell. Thanks to all of you and welcome aboard!

ARCHIVE REFLECTIONS

It was interesting when the Poker Run took us through Thunderbird Park. It was like de deja vu, Back in the early 80’s the Club used to go there for picnics. I wish I could remember the car count, but it seems like we had about40 plus cars there.

The Point Resort on 16th street was another fun meeting place. We would have 15 to 20 T-Birds parked in front and have a champagne brunch. Then all head over to the Kennedy’s house for a swim party, more champagne and some times we would burn steaks on the grille. I believe at one of those parties I won an award for eating the most popcorn. I fall asleep on the couch and continue eating.. Ah, the good old days.

It’s wonderful memories like these that bought Jeannie and I back to Phoenix from Las Vegas.

Note: After many years Stewart Wright has re-tired from writing this column. Our sincere thanks to Stewart for reminding us of all the good times.

More about 2019 Regional The 2019 Regional is moving along smooth-ly. Advertisers are taking advantage of our Convention Program magazine. Chris Ames says the magazine should be 40 pages in living color. Donations for the goody bags are still coming in. If you go touring, or shopping you will come back to your secured parking spot. Club members working the show picked up their shirts at April’s meeting. We all need to give a BIG hand to Tom and Jacki McKee, it’s been a monumental task. Don’t forget to notify the various chair per-sons and volunteer to help even if you can only come to Flagstaff for the day. Hey, why not car pool??? ………………………………………………………. EDITORIAL COMMENTS

I have been in this Club off and on since 1975 and always loved it. In the early years I didn’t own a T-Bird, just built them. In those days if you didn’t own a T-Bird you couldn’t hold any office, so I kind of had fun, but didn’t do much to make the Club better. Now that we have a Baby Bird, and Jeannie and i joined CTCI and hold positions, my view of what's going on has taken on a different light. Remember everything done in this club is performed by volunteers, we need to remember that term, “volunteer "These volunteers try to do their best, so if you have an er-ror to correct just let that person know. If wrong information was given it’s not life or death, it can be corrected. We are fortunate to have a large club, probably largest in the na-tion. To keep your club the best, every-one has to step up. We are thrilled to have so many new members, don’t be shy, jump in. With new members come new ideas, don’t hold back, let us hear them. A good place to be heard is at the monthly luncheons. Ladies meet second Wednesday of the month. Men’s luncheon at the same time, different place. Michael Wood, Editor

Everyone Loves our Bolo Ties. We wear them with pride when attending meetings and spe-cial events! Here is a little history about them. Years ago ACTC decided they wanted Bolo Ties. We contacted a Navajo Jeweler and this was the final design. Club members could purchase them with the agreement that if they left the Club they had to sell it back to the Club for the original purchase price. Each piece came with a certificate of authenticity from the jeweler. The jeweler would stamp his signature on items sold to the white man, but not on jewelry sold to Navajo's. Jamie Thompson has been on a year long search for them. Some families just don’t want to give them up. They LOVE them that much. The Navajo Nation considered their jewelry as decoration, a display of wealth and as col-lateral against loans at the trading post. The pawn rack was an important and respected part of the economic and social life of the Navajo. Jewelry moved in and out of the pawn at regular seasonal intervals synchro-nized to the spring and fall lamb, wool and harvest activities. Much of the jewelry was withdrawn from pawn during the summer dances and ceremonials, and returned to the vaults again during the winter months. “FUN POKER RUN BY BOB MICHELE & MIKE DOLAN” The Poker Run was a great success, the drive was cool and went smoothly with 17 cars. We only lost one couple, but they received their cards at the end of the run at George & Sherry Randall’s shop/garage where a number of his vast car collection is stored. Wow, cars varied from a Model A to a new Tesla gull wing SUV. Bob/Kathy, Mike Dolan and Mike’s daughter Katie had great refreshments for everyone. Mike Dolan even furnished the tables and chairs. Big winner was Denis Frank, second best hand was Doni and Bob Bodell, third best hand was Kerry Pokorsky, runner up with the worst hand was Jeannie and Mike Wood. Kerry Pokorski won even though cards blew out of his car, dam convertibles!!!! Doni Bodell got a scam call that her daughter was hurt and was being held for ransom. Even though it was a scam, Doni just about had a heart at-tack. ACTC wants to give Sherry and George a BIG thank you. We had a blast! Thanks Bob Michele/Mike Dolan Jamie Thompson took a trip to Nevada to see her nephew. While there she toured Valley Of Fire State Park. .

improve efficiency of fan. An unshroud-ed fan moves about 50% of the air vol-ume of shrouded fan, because it only moves air through the portion of the ra-diator equal to the surface of the fan, and does not benefit from the housing effect that the shroud provides.

12. NOTE: For the best performance, when installing a fan shroud, locate the fan 1/2 to 2/3 inside the shroud.

13. Water pumps should be overdriven 30 to 35% (Pulley ratio: Crankshaft pully should be 30% larger than water pump pulley)

14. Always use a thermostat to control en-gine temperature.

15. Compressor Safety Switch is normally a binary type (2 connectors) if you have an electric fan only this switch turns fan on when A/c is on. Why, engine isn’t hot, so why run fan (they are expen-sive).

16. A Trinary Switch (3 connectors)combines Binary functions with a en-gagement signal. So electric fan doesn’t come on until engine heat signals it do so. Saves wear and tear on electric fan.

C.A.B at work. I was lucky to attend a A/C seminar given by Rick Love at So-Cal shop on McDowell. Presented by Vintage Air, a sponsor of our Regional Convention. Summers here so A/C is important. Tips: 1. Seal and insulate the cabin area (including cowl and above evapora-tor).

2. Make sure your cooling system and radiator are sufficient.

3. Remember: without adequate airflow, a radiator is just a reservoir for hot water. In general, coolant transfers heat to radiator tubes, tubes transfers heat to fins, and movement of air through the fins removes heat from radiator. You must allow air to pass efficiently through the radiator and out.

4. Allow for air to escape from under the hood.

5. Ensure radiator cap has proper pres-sure rating:

6. A - With Walker Radiator or aftermar-ket: 15-18 lb cap (each 1 lb of increase pressure raises the boiling point 3 de-grees F)

7. B—On original recore radiator: 4—7 lb. cap (tanks are not designed to hold pressure).

8. Remember: Antifreeze (now called antifreeze/coolant) increases the boil-ing point of water. Corrosion inhibi-tors protect against scaling and min-eral and mineral build up that can re-duce heat transfer.

9. A—Proper mix is 50% coolant to 50% water. Use distilled water or pre-mixed antifreeze.

10. B - Proper maintenance (flushing & changing coolant) will extend the life of the system.

11. Always use a shroud with an engine driven fan, as it will dramatically
