Narrative Summary of Drake Data collected for 1 Sep 1998
There are 14 tables of moss bag data. The first table for didxin indicates the results of statisticalanalyses of the data at each collection site over all exposure periods; The second table labeledwith the letter (b) indicates statistical analyses of the data collected prior to the test burn, duringthe test burn, after the test burn and during the real burn.
No significant differences were measured for dioxins at all sites, except once for the EPAHospital air monitoring site (7.417a, Table 1). When the data were grouped in Table Ibaccording to prior, during and after the test burn and during the real burn, no statistical differencewas observed at the EPA-H during the test burn. The moss bags appear to be sensitive enough topick up differences in the neighborhood of 3 pptr dioxin TEQs. It is important to note that thevalues of dioxins detected during the real burn are some of the lowest observed for all periods.Based on these data, the incineration of soil does not appear to be adding any measurablequantities of dioxins to the air being monitored with moss bags.
The moss bag metals data are presented in Tables 2-14, The first table indicates statisticalanalysis of the data. The second table (a) indicates less than detection limit values. The thirdtable (b) indicates statistical differences prior to, during and after the test burn and during the realburn. The fourth table (c) indicates less than values in the data for prior.to, during, and after thetest bum.
No differences were observed at the parts per billion concentration level for all metals that couldbe related to the real burn, except silver (Table 12). Table 12 indicates EPA-H had an apparentincrease in silver for one of the two periods during the real burn. However, when the data aregrouped according to prior to, during and after the test burn and during the real burn, nostatistical differences are observed. Any differences observed in Table 12 are small in the tens ofparts per billion range, and are not significant when grouped together. These data do indicate theexceptional sensitivity of the moss bags biomonitoring.
The leaves and ground moss data are essentially prior to the test burn period and establish a goodbaseline data set to compare future samples.
