A word of warning:

I am a scientist, not a philosopher, and not a mystic. Even though I am interested in mysticism and in philosophy, my real domain of expertise is theoretical physics and, in a lesser degree, mathematics. Here I am going to talk about both subjects: physics and the mysterious. While I consider myself being an expert in quite a few areas of physics, when it comes to subjects that are beyond the reach of my expertise – I can only speculate. While there is nothing wrong with speculations, it would be wrong to take speculations with the same level of confidence as, say, proofs of mathematical theorems. Proofs of mathematical theorems occasionally happen to be wrong, but speculations are more often wrong than true. They may serve as an inspiration and as a guide to a true scientific research – but that is all that speculations can provide – a guidance fo real research – not more. Anything more may be dangerous.

This being said let me start with giving you a review of my personal history, so that you will be able to get a better idea about who is that person that you are listening to.

First of all my scientific papers were often written in a collaboration with other scientists. I do like to work in a collaboration, discussing with my collegues, being completely open and transparent. Collaboration has the advantage of giving an additional motivation and impetus for the hard work. I think this has been noticed and appreciated by my collegues. While most of the time I was formally a professor at the University of Wroclaw, Poland, about half of my time I was working abroad in the centers of theoretical physics and mathematics, always on an invitation from these centers.

And so, here is the list of my international scientific „adventures”:

Apart of my scientific interest through all my life I was studying a lot of philosophy, metaphysics and esoteric subjects. Although my areas of research have been to much extent inependend of my other interests, there was undoubtly some influence one onto another. So, here is an incomplete list of my esoteric interests:

As you can see, the „Cassiopaean experiment” is the last on the list. It is not really an „experiment” in the sense of the contemporary standards of science. It is rather an „experience”, with an open-minded approach. Studying history of science you will find that many later „real experiments” has been

initiated by first playing with phenomena, observing them, participating, always with an open mind. Only later, sometimes much later, an experimental protocole was invented, specially adapted, that have made these phenomena a domain of science. For instance people were playing with natural and artificial magnets for thousand of years before Oersted, Ampere, then Maxwell, have made it possible to provide the methods of measurements and the theory of magnetism and of electricity. I am afraid that most of so called „paranormal phenomena” are, at present, at the lavel of „playing with them” rather than at the level of a real scientific research. But such an approach, as the history of science demonstrates, must not be dismissed. Discoveries, like those of the laws of wave propagation, have often been started by games – like throwing stones into the water and observing what happens. If wrong conclusions are being made from such speculations, sooner or later someone will find what is wrong with them and propose something better. Dismissing observations that do not fit into the actual scientific paradigm is not the best approach, it is anti-scientific. I will come back to this subject at the end of my talk.

As far as I can judge by all my studies of the subject, the key to the unexplained cases (by „ordinary science”) of UFO phenomena and also to the problem of consciousness, which is still a puzzle for philosophers, physicists and neuroscientists, may well be found in what is sometimes called „hyperdimensional physics”. Physicists, in fact, are not using name. They would rather use the term „extra dimensions” or „Kaluza-Klein theories”. Quite often UFOs phenomena are being „explained away” by some kind of exotic physics that does not require introducing extra dimensions beyound thos of space and time. My own point of view is different. The same happens with paranormal and consciousness related phenomena. There are many theories of such phenomena invoking either quantum effects, electromagnetic effects, or some other kind of known or unknown forces. All these explanations are not successful enough. Going beyond the ordinary dimensions of space and time is, for some reason, avoided. I think this is a mistake.

The turning point in the interest in possible extra dimensions was probably in the year 1886, when Charles Howard Hinton, British mathematician and sci-fi writer, published a book about the forth dimension extending our three dimensional space. This fourth dimension had nothing to do with the fourth dimension of post-Minkowski and post-Einstein physics, wher it is the dimension of time that is being considered as „the fourth dimension”. So, Hinton’s fourth dimension was, in fact, what we would now call „the fifth demension”. Hinton speculated about the world with one more extra dimension, and how we, restricted to only four of them would have our perception of reality distorted.

Then, in 1921 and 1926 came physicists Kaluza and Klein suggesting unified field theories of gravity and electromagnetism based on one extra dimension extending beyond those of space and time. Both theories were a kind of an extension of Einsten’s general relativity theory. The work of Kaluza was dealing with pure classical concepts, while Klein attempted to exten his ideas into the quantum domain as well. Albert Einstein hesitated with accepting these ideas, there were times when he was enthusiastical about them to the extent that he would even try to make them his own, but there we also tiemes where Einstein acted like being repelled by the very idea of going beyond ordinary space and time dimensions.

In 1941 Einstein, while in Princeton, and with a help of one physicist and one mathematician, returned to the idea of an additional (fifth) dimension, but this time he was inclined to make this extra dimension not only formal, but „real”. In a couple of years the idea was abandonned – apparently for the reason that it was not clear what to do with the initial idea next. It is my feeling that it was a very good idea and, sometimes, I confess, I am thinking in terms of conspiracy theories – the idea of Einstein, Bergmann and Bargmann of 1941 was too god – so it had to be killed. But I am not very serious about it!

In the 80-ties physicists returned again to Kaluza-Klein theories with new hopes coming from elementary particle physics. In 1988, together with my collegue, a physicist from CNRS at Marseille-Luminy we have published a monograph giving a mathematical and physical overview of the existing ideas – extending them. The monograph was based on a series of papers that we published together while working at CERN, the famous European particle accelerator center. A month ago it made the news and became famous for a possible discovery of superluminal neutrinos. But that is a different story.

Today all my work involves using additional dimensions. Usually I play with six-dimensional space-time, as that almost automatically follows from Maxwell’s theory of the electromagnetic field. Maxwell himself formulated his theory using only three space and one time dimensions, but at the beginning of XX-th century it was discovered that Maxwell’s have some not so evident symmetries (so called „conformal symmetry”) that require, for mathematical consistency, additional two dimensions. At present there is no physical interpretation of these two extra dimensions. Therefore I was very happy when I discovered the work of an exotic German physicist, Burkhard Heim, who also formulated a theory using six space-time dimensions and proposed a particular meaning to those added two dimensions.

As you can see from the titles of chapters of one of his books, my term „exotic physicist” is justified. Although originally Heim was mainly interested in high energy and elementary particle physics, later on he was devoting more and more attention to his more esoteric ideas and to the necessity of connecting physics with human experience. Thus we see titles like „Elementary processes of life” and „Postmortem states”.

Burkhard Heim had bad experiences with his collegues, professional scientists. He had the feeling that his collegues are not always sincere, that collegues steal ideas one from another etc. Rherefore most of

his work has been published by a publisher related to Vatican, without what is called „peer review”. Four volumes of his theory have been published by Resch Verlag. Andreas Resh, Redemptorist, is an expert in all kind of paranormal phenomena – though viewed through a prism of the Catholic Church. Apparently Burkhrd Heim had a faith that this way his work will not get into „evil hands”.

Unfortunately Heim died in 2001 and did not finish his work. I had a chance of meeting him in Gottingen, where I was in 1982, but at that time his work was unknown to me, and I was also too excited with my own work.

In 1954 Burkhard Heim became famous for his theory of space propulsion giving hopes for those dreaming about space travel to the distant stars. He has appeared on the covers of the German Magazine Der Stern as a new German hero, like von Braun before.

In 1944 Burkhard Heim suffered terribly from a chemical experiment in which, owing to an explosion, he has lost both hands, sight and hearing. After a while a surgery made it possible for him to use his arms, he could see with one eye and a magnifying glass, his hearing was partly returned.

Heims adds to his theory describing the material part of the world additional two dimensions. One, related to the organization of matter, and another one related to information. With these extra two dimensions plus additional ideas about elementary constituents of matter (of geometrical character, a’la Plato) Heim was able to build models of the fundamental interactions and elementary particles.

By adding additional 6 dimensions Heim proposed to describe the processes of life, including the phenomena related to consciusness, like Psyche and Pneuma. Moreover, according to Heim the organization is structured into levels, from most primitive to highly developed – something similar to what some more esoteric literature calls „densities”. Higher organizational levels require active participation of more dimensions, but dimensions and organization levels, obtained as a result of what Heim calls „condensation process” are, although related, yet different things.

I have a double difficulty with following Heim’s ideas. First of all his work is in German, and I can read German without a dictionary on my desk only if it is pure mathematics. Heim’s work is certainly not a pure mathematics. Second, probably due to his accident and following health problems Heim was working almost always alone. Therefore he was not used to present his ideas in a way that is understood by other people. He is known for saying something to extent: „If someone is really interested, he will be able to fill the gaps, do the calculations, correct the errors.” Probably he was right, but the price for doing all this is very high.

In 2008 I have published a paper on a new scheme of superluminal communications. This scheme was based on an idea that I tried to publish already in 1979, however without a success – at that time I was not able to convince the referees that my ideas are mathematically sound. In 2008 I was able to do it and to extend the framework considerably.

The paper was published in a mathematical journal and, as far as I know, did not attract any attention of the physicists. The superluminal communication is mentioned already in the abstract. The paper has the title “The Theory of Kairons”. Why “Kairons”?

Page 14: Arkadiusz Jadczyk · Web viewA word of warning: I am a scientist, not a philosopher, and not a mystic. Even though I am interested in mysticism and in philosophy, my real domain of

This comes from the word „Kairos” – an old world denoting a special kind of „time”. Not the steady stream of time when nothing really happens except that everything gets older and more chaotic than before. Kairos is realated to the exceptional when something happens, for instance when a signal is received, interpreted and acted upon.

Carl Gustav Jung mentioned Kairos in his book „The Undicovered Self” as „The right time”. Perhaps it is now the right time for me to tell you something about my theory of Kairons?

The main conclusions from this mathematical theory is that fields are possible whose quanta are similar to waves (wavicles) rather than particles. These ways can propagate instantaneously, allowing for superluminal communications. However in order to communicate with „us in the future” a retransmitter is needed – we can not communicate directly into our own past.

The „rules of the game” are such that if the retransmitter is x light years far away from us, we can use it for communications reaching into our past (or future) at most 2x years of „our time”.

My theory is, for the moment, purely mathematical, with no thoughs whatsoever about practical applications. It is just „the first step”. But I have also thoughts about a possible technology. These thought relate to my work on „magnetic monopoles”.

In 1944 American press was informing about the discovery of magnets with pole only – by an Austrian physicist Felix Ehrenhaft (by the way, a friend of Albert Einstein).

Page 17: Arkadiusz Jadczyk · Web viewA word of warning: I am a scientist, not a philosopher, and not a mystic. Even though I am interested in mysticism and in philosophy, my real domain of

Ehrenhaft apparently discovered several unusual physical effects related to the action of light on matter (electrophoresis). Burkhard Heim was also interested in Ehrenhaft discoveries and did some work in this direction.

Edward Leedskalnin, famous for his Coral Castle in Florida, the construction that is hard to explain how he did it without using some exotic physics principles, „borrowed” from Ehrenhaft the idea of magnetic charges. All of that was „forgotten” and is nowadays being considered not as part of „accepted science”. But the idea of magnetic monopoles came back in Russia and in France – though in

a different form and with a different kind of experiments.

High power electric explosions, as it seems, can produce unusual nuclear reaction in, for instance, titanium foils. We have something like an „alchemical reactions” that do not fit the ideas of our nuclear theories. Strange tracks are being observed – allegedly coming from „magnetic monopoles”.

There are many theoretical approaches to magnetic monopoles. Most physicists of the main stream think they do not exist. Some other think they exist, but can not be detected under usual conditions.

My own work on magnetic monopoles was purely mathematical.

Page 20: Arkadiusz Jadczyk · Web viewA word of warning: I am a scientist, not a philosopher, and not a mystic. Even though I am interested in mysticism and in philosophy, my real domain of

Some think they are slower than light, some think that they propagate with the speed of light, and some that they are superluminal. There is no agreeement at all.

What about conciousness? I have already mentioned Heim’s ideas about relating consciosness phenomena to additional dimensions beyond those of space and time.

Theilard de Chardin added to the above view a metaphysical idea: consciousness is related to the univesrse observing itself, reflecting itself. In other words: we have all the knowledge that is necessary in ourselves, through our consciousness, but to tap this knoldege is extremaly difficult.

Page 21: Arkadiusz Jadczyk · Web viewA word of warning: I am a scientist, not a philosopher, and not a mystic. Even though I am interested in mysticism and in philosophy, my real domain of

Consciousness, wrote de Chardin, is not an epiphenomenon. It needs new dimensions in the stuff of the universe. This fits perfectly with the ideas of Burhard Heim and, more generally, with Kaluza-Klein ideas.

What about UFOs? The best analysis of the phenomena I have seen is due to Jacques Vallee and Eric Davis.
