ACE’s Mission
The mission of Arlingtonians for a Clean Environment (ACE) is to promote stewardship of our natural resources and practical solutions to a sustainable lifestyle in order to protect water, air, and open spaces in the Arlington community.
The mission of Arlington Thrive is to provide emergency same-day financial assistance to Arlington residents who are in crisis and unable to pay their bills.
Arlington Thrive’s Mission
Arlington Thrive provides utility assistance to over 550 households each year. After rent payment assistance, utility bill assistance is the greatest need seen.

“A project likes this helps the environment. It helps to reduce the buildings carbon footprint. So, from an environmental purpose, this program had appeal to me. But also, it helps the tenants. It helps keep their energy bills low. It’s a boon to the community. That’s why I decided to help out. I feel good about it.” - Tom Sheldon
Volunteer Reflections
“I’m so excited about the success and what we’ve done. We got another award, from Virginia Cooperative Extension. It’s a statewide, competitive award. It recognizes this program for excellence in a new initiative. I’m so proud and happy for the participation in this year’s class and also to have so many people returning from the first year’s class who really gave a lot of effort. – Jennifer Abel, Virginia Cooperative Extension

Apartment Residents’ Reflections
“They [Arlington Energy Masters] didn’t just make a difference for me and my home. It’s making a difference in the world. Now, when I go to people’s apartments, I teach them. And, I ask them to tell their family members. What I show you, teach them.”
– Marilyn Rogers (former tenant served by AEM; now an Arlington Energy Master herself
Volunteer Reflections
“One of the things I’ve got out of the program is the educational aspect…When I started, I didn’t completely get that residents would be so receptive to learning about the efficiency changes. I didn’t get that we’d spark their interest in energy efficiency or water conservation.” - Janine Bergin
“The work that the [Arlington Energy Masters] program does is helping the community with reducing energy costs and bills. And, it’s helping to build a community. People helping people is fundamental to life…. What this community program is doing really hits both the energy efficient buildings and energy education and behavior [components of the Arlington CEP]. These are equally important. It’s raising the community’s energy literacy which is really important. Energy is this invisible thing that we can’t see. But if people learn that, wow, there are people who care about this, people who can make me more comfortable and cut my bills…it’s a good thing.” - John Morrill, Arlington County Energy Masters
