Cleveland Amateur Radio Club de Chris Hunter , Club Recording Secretary KK4YEM

The Cleveland Amateur Radio Club will be conducting their final public demo on Saturday, November 12 as

part of the ARRL's "National Parks on the Air" program celebrating the 100th anniversary of the National

Parks system. During these events, amateur radio operators or "HAMs" as they are more commonly

known attempt to contact as many units in the national parks system as possible from their home loca-

tions. The goal for HAMs at the parks is to contact as many US states and territories as possible.

The activity will be held at the Blythe Ferry Removal Memorial Park in Birchwood, TN; a federally recog-

nized site on the Trail of Tears National Historic Trail. This marks the club's third activation as the Trail of

Tears as part of the year-long event. The Club's October demo at Red Clay State Historic Park in Cleve-

land, TN saw ten member participants interacting with park visitors, and six radio operators communicating

by voice and Morse code to amateurs throughout the country.

Club secretary Chris Hunter noted "we chose the date to commemorate the 178th anniversary of the last

prisoner detail to depart the Ferry in 1838." "The Memorial park is one of those hidden spots that you

wouldn't ordinarily see. Besides the historical aspects, there's a ton of wildlife from the nearby preserve.

Our first setup in April was supervised by a pair of foxes!"

The Cleveland Amateur Radio Club conducts weekly training and fellowship sessions on Saturdays, with

monthly license examinations conducted through the ARRL every second Saturday of the month except

December. Informational meetings are held on the fourth Tuesday of every month, except December. the

Club also provide communications support for public service events — the activities of other nonprofits

seeking to raise operating revenue through walk-a-thons, bicycle races, etc.

Both the Cleveland Amateur Radio Club is a 501(c)3 organization. For more information about the Club,

Remembering: Hamfest Chattanooga 2016 September 23-24, 2016 in Pigeon Forge, TN.

When: Saturday, October 22, 2016

The Hamfest was held at the East Ridge Community Center, with a large vendor room as well as a separate room

that was used for ARRL, Chattanooga ARC and other Amateur Radio Club exhibits and forums, plus additional

vendor tables. The FCC Testing was done in a separate room to give those testing a more quiet atmosphere to take

their Technician Class and upgrade exams. There was also an outside boneyard area for those who had supplies

and equipment to sell, tailgate style.

The ARRL table had a steady stream of visitors, including a number of Hams who took advantage of the incentive

to join or a renew their ARRL membership at a Hamfest, which gives them the option to select one of several books

as part of the new/renewed membership. The ARRL Forum was presented by Ed Hudgens, WB4RHQ, the ARRL

Delta Division Vice Director. Those who attended were entered into a drawing for an ARRL Gift Certificate. The

lucky winner was a young YL named Tehya Jenkins, who is studying to take her Technician Exam in November.

Good Luck Tehya!!!
