The good Lord carved a slice and served it up for all to see along the banks of the Huron River. The angular course of pristine water provided a nice challenge for all the cox- swains and their entries. First up in the slot, to get things kick started, was the Women’s Light- weight 4 race. Our ladies, with Allison Sheehan at the stroke, nailed down a sweet second place. Next up, on a day where SUA was racking up second places, redun- dant like the movie “Ground Hog Day”, the SUA Novice A 4+boat, with Maddie Wheeler at the stroke, stayed true to the script and dashed to a swift second place finish. As if on cue, next came the SUA Novice B 4+ boat with Hope Moore at the stroke. They too took a second. The next race featured our SUA JV 8+ boat with Rachel Steinbauer at the stroke. Yeah, you guessed it. They snagged a second place finish as well. Are you beginning to sense a theme here? Hmmm, next came the SUA Women’s Varsity 4+ with Leah McCormick stroking. Could they, would they…..no! They took a second as well. Darn it! I was about to hoist myself on my own petard. Delirious, and slapped silly by the string of second place finishes, I gathered myself and hustled (there’s a sight) to the finish line for the next race. When what to my wondering eyes should appear but the SUA Novice 8+A boat, with Steffi McCormick at the stroke, steaming to the finish like their hair was on fire. It was a gold medal effort, first place at last! WEEK OF APRIL 29 - MAY 5, 2013

WEEKLY SPORTS IN REVIEW

CREW:HURON RIVER SPRINTS If you attended the Huron River Sprints this past Saturday in Ann Arbor you know you won’t have to take the proverbial dirt nap to see what heaven looks like. The good Lord carved a slice and served it up for all to see along the banks of the Huron River. The angular course of pristine water provided a nice challenge for all the cox-swains and their entries.

First up in the slot, to get things kick started, was the Women’s Light-weight 4 race. Our ladies, with Allison Sheehan at the stroke, nailed down a sweet second place.

Next up, on a day where SUA was racking up second places, redun-dant like the movie “Ground Hog Day”, the SUA Novice A 4+boat, with Maddie Wheeler at the stroke, stayed true to the script and dashed to a swift second place fi nish.As if on cue, next came the SUA Novice B 4+ boat with Hope Moore at the stroke. Turning in one of their best performances of the season, the SUA Novice B+ boat with Alyssa Brown stroking, turned in a brilliant effort garnering another first place finish, and more gold medal clinkage for SUA.

Our SUA JV 4+ boat with Rachel Steinbauer at the stroke, worked hard for the 3rd place finish earned.

SUA 3RD Varsity 8+ boat, with Alyssa Brown stroking, turned in a very respectable 2nd place finish.

In the feature race of the event, the Women’s Varsity 8+ race, with Allison Sheehan stroking our vaunted entry , continued to have buzzard’s luck (can’t kill nothin’…and won’t nothin’ die). They finished 4th, out of the money by .5 seconds! I pity their foes next week, because these are going to be some steaming sisters. This is a proud group of finishers who are used to win-ning. Oh…there will be blood next week! The faint of heart should just turn away.

Men’s and women’s teams at the regatta were paired so an award could be given to the pairing that earned the most total points for the regatta. SUA teamed with St. John’s Jesuit. They won the trophy by 5 points!

Next up is the St. Mary’s Invitational next week at Orchard Lake. C’mon up and join us and bring your popcorn!

ONE, TWO…THREE….ARROWS!!!

LACROSSE:It was another exciting week for our Arrow Lacrosse team. The week started out with a bang for our JV team as they traveled to Bedford on Tuesday. It what ended up being a driving rain our JV squad came away with 2 victories. One over the Bed-ford Kicking Mule JV 13 to 3 and finally a tight 6 to 4 victory over the Mule varsity squad. Great work ladies. Our varsity club came out on fire this week handing the Perrysburg Yel-low Jackets and convincing 18 to 4 defeat! The week ended with our varsity taking on state lacrosse powers Medina and Cleveland Heights on Saturday. While the Arrows did not come away with a victory on Saturday during their tilts with Medina and Cleveland Heights they garnered some valuable experience. Medina is the number one ranked team in the state of Ohio in division one and our ladies played strong but lost 9 to 4. The weekend came to a close with a 9 to 1 loss to Cleve-land Heights. Next week starts off with a matchup at Notre Dame on Tuesday at 4:30PM for our JV to make up a weather postponed game and then the girls will host Anthony Wayne on Thursday with the varsity playing at 4:30PM followed by the JV at 6PM. The week comes to a close with a trip to Western Reserve for JV and Varsity battles against Western Reserve and Beaumont. Go Arrows!

SOFTBALL: SUA 2, Central 8The Arrows visited the Cherry Street home of the Fighting Irish

in a TRAC matchup televised by BCSN. Unfortunately, the SUA team left their bats back on Indian as Coach Muszynski’s team fell 8 to 2 in the battle for the Bishop’s Cup.

SUA 15, Lima Central 4Lima Senior felt the wrath of the Ursula Arrows as our favorite softballers swatted the gals from Allen County. The Arrows did not have any homeruns in the contest but Jasmine Davis paced the squad with a scorching double to set tone for the day. Freshman Cat Meehan added a pair of singles to aid the pitch-ing of Freshman Cassie Ott and relief efforts of Emily Uhlman (’14).

SUA 1, Fremont Ross 2Coach Muszynski’s squad traveled 40 miles down the turn-pike to battle the Little Lady Giants in a TRAC grudge match. Unfortunately, the Arrows came out on the short end for a 2 to 1 loss.

SUA 4, Magnifi cat 6The Arrows returned to the friendly confi nes of Indian Road to host a non-league double header against the Rocky River Ohio’s own Magnifi cat. Junior Mary Kate Richberg got the home team off to a stellar start with a long solo shot to dead center and paced the team to an early 1 run lead. Cassie Ott (’16) proved equal with a fourth inning Grand Slam and it ap-peared that the hometown girls were ready to beat up the Sisters of Humility from Mag’s. Alas, the lasses from Cuyahoga tal-lied four runs in the top of the seventh to hand the host Arrows a 6 to 5 loss.

SUA 2, Magnifi cat 3Sophomore Mary Eilert turned in the season’s best play at third base in the nightcap. With her impression of Brooks Robinson, Eilert dove to her right and with a stretch fl agged down a hard shot that was destined for left fi eld. Number 20 in your pro-gram regained her balance and fi red a laser across to diamond to Ott covering fi rst. Defi nitely ESPN top play worthy. Unfor-tunately the visitors had built momentum with the come-from-behind victory in the fi rst game, and they were not going to be denied in the second game. The Blue Streaks persevered in thenightcap by a 3 to 2 score.

TRACK & FIELD:Last Wednesday (4/17) the SUA track team traveled across town for a tri-meet at CCHS against CCHS and NDA. Even though the meet was not scored from a team perspective, the individual events were scored and SUA took top prize in the following two events.

- 4x800m relay – Kate Szczesniak (9), Danielle Szczesn-iak (10), Regina Sullivan (9), and Hannah Zakerzewski (9) – 1st place
