SPORTS By: Ben Branaman and Skyler Sanchez
Olympics Team USA came in first in the medal
count with 104 medals at the 2012
Summer Olympic Games. Republic of
China came in second with 88 medals.
Great Britain, the host of the games,
came in third with 65 medals.
The Fastest Man In The World Jamaican runner Usian Bolt, is the
fastest man in the world. He got 3
medals in the Men’s 100m, Men’s
200m, and the Men’s 4 X 100m relay.
Baseball Many teams are trying to get that
playoff push to get them to the
playoffs. The D-backs are going to
need a big win streak to get them into
a playoff position. A huge trade just
happened when the Los Angeles
Dodgers traded Ivan de Jesus Jr.,
James Loney, and three minor league
players to the Boston Red Sox for all-
stars Adrain Gonzalez, Josh Beckett,
Carl Crawford, and Nick Punto.
Football The Cardinals are doing great. They
most recently beat the Philadelphia
Eagles and are beginning to earn the
respect they deserve.
Soccer The premier League has begun and
it should be an exciting season in the
UK with 14 teams in 10 cities. The
battle for Manchester will be fun to
watch when the powerhouses that
both play in Manchester, Manchester
United and Manchester City, both
play each other.
Michael Phelps Many people are wondering: Why
did Michael Phelps retire from
swimming? Well, we think, first of all,
there are many young swimmers
catching up to him while he is an
aging legend. Also, being the athlete
with the most Olympic medals, even
more medals than many countries
won, he is probably looking at other
goals to achieve. Those may be some
of the reasons Michael Phelps retired
form competitive swimming.

ALL ABOUT ANIMALS
The Asiatic Lion By Matthew Jones
The Asian or Asiatic Lion is a rare and endangered subspecies of lion native to the Gir Forest of India. Some of the lion’s food items are deer, antelope, unprotected lion cubs, and the occasional human, if provoked. The Asian Lion looks nearly identical to the African lion except for some differences in the male’s mane. In the early 1900’s, there were only a dozen left but the species has since recovered. They once lived as far south as Calcutta [a city bordering the Indian Ocean]. The Gir Forest in northern India is a protected place and there is no hunting allowed so the species should recover into thousands.
Did You Know? By: Paige Nye
1. Humans and giraffes have the
same number of vertebrae in their
neck (7) despite the fact that giraffes
have necks that are much longer than
human necks!
2. There are no land snakes in New Zealand and there is a law that, if seen, they must be reported. 3. The second president of the United States of America, John Adams, and the third president, Thomas Jefferson, both died on the same day within a few hours of each other and are the only presidents to die on the same day in the same year.

THREE GAME REVIEWS
FRIV By: Alexandria Slocum
Friv is a website that you can play on after homework; there is no user name and password. Friv has boy and girl games for you to play. On Friv there is mild violence, like laser guns on some games, but there are no inappropriate games. There are games to build your memory. There are games like Water Girl and Fire Boy which is a game that builds your memory. It has levels, you have to use the A, W, and D buttons for Water Girl and the arrow keys for Fire Boy. It also has a two player game. The 3D Logic game builds your memory and skill. Your goal is to connect the colors on the cube, it might sound easy at first but it gets harder as the levels go up. In the game Sugar, Sugar 2 you have to guide the sugar into the cup. When they have two different color cups, then make the sugar go into both of the cups. You also have to use different arrows on the screen to move the sugar up and down. There are more games than that and new games are added every Thursday.
FRIZZLE FRAZ 2 By: Rachel Walls
Frizzle Fraz 2 is an entertaining game about a ball-like creature that goes by the name of Frizzle. He needs to rescue all the others of his kind from the clutches of the enemy, while collecting the keys to unlock doors. Fight through dozens of snakes, beetles, and more in 25 jaw-dropping levels! I highly
recommend this game to everyone. This spectacular game can be found on numerous sites, including Coolmath.com.
Minecraft Pocket Edition (App of the Month) By: Eli Elsberry Right now the top app in the app store is
Minecraft Pocket Edition. Unlike the computer edition it only has limited stuff.
The latest update includes trapdoors, red
stone ore in creative mode, moss stone, TNT, creepers, flint and steel, peaceful mode,
wheat seeds, food. The zombies drop feathers
like they did in the old Minecraft. Also, the duplication glitch is fixed. The full version is
$6.99. If you don’t want to pay that, they
have Minecraft Pocket Edition Lite. Mobs include zombies, spiders, skeletons, creepers,
pigs, sheep, cows, and chickens. I would
recommend this game to anyone who loves Minecraft. This is the best mobile game I
have ever played.
