Free Trade and Warehousing Zone (FTWZ) is a special category of Special Economic Zone

(SEZ). Set up with an objective to improve the logistics infrastructure of the country,

facilitate cross-border trade and promote international trading. FTWZs are intended to

serve as mega trading hubs with integrated logistics infrastructure like special storage

areas, world class material handling equipments, CY/ICD, Customs office, administration

building and commercial complex. As a deemed foreign territory FTWZs ensure faster

turnaround by reducing custom related formalities and prove to be beneficial for both the

importers and the exporters, as these zones are designed to reduce labour cost and tax

related expenditures. FTWZs allow for activities like warehousing, trading and value

optimising services such as packaging, labelling, re-invoicing, CKD and SKD assembly,

cutting, polishing, blending amongst others to be carried on in its infrastructure. It also

facilitates exports, imports and re-exports, hubbing and distribution through India to not

only compete with its cost and skill arbitrage in regional hubbing but also process cargo in

and out of India more efficiently – thereby improving logistics connectivity of India.
