Art prepares children to live beautifully, harmoniously, to respect the beauty and to vibrate with it. Words, sounds, gestures, colours, plastic forms are means of expression, of exterenalizing wishes, expectations, relationships with the others, problems.Among the art languages, the plastic language is the closest to pupils. This language has the mission to balance and align children’s relationships with nature, with themselves. In Romania, three years ago, PRACTICAL ABILITIES AND PLASTIC EDUCATION were taught separately as school subjects. Now, these two subjects are taught together as AVAP Visual Arts and practical abilities.During this class, the teacher teaches children the main elements of plastic language that will be combined with elements of technique:

-dactilo-painting confers flexibility, abilitaty in using fingers and encourages harmonizing colours through combination;

-the pad technique confers children freedom in choosing materials helps the combination of colours;

-the stamp technique can also be used collective works; the stamp pattern may differ that generates children’s receptiveness at the possibilities offered by nature;

The technique of spontaneous shapes – abstract painting

The thread, tissue or napkin technique can be applied, no matter the age, developing creativity, patience, imagination;

Fold the paper in two.On a little saucer, put the colour the child wants and put in the thread.Using a paintbrush, make sure the thread is full of colour, but leave one end dry, not to get dirty.Take the thread out of the colour and put it on the open folded paper as the child wishes. Use imagination!Fold the paper back, put something heavy on it and take out the thread.What a wonderful painting!

The outline technique allows ordering compositional elements, balancing the composition;outlines and colours support each other;

The comb (scratching) technique implies a study of the horizontal, vertical, oblique, wavy lines , everything leading to special effects;

The splashing technique using a paintbrush or a toothbrush

The leaking and puffing technique develops sensitiveness for chromatic harmony.

The discolouring/bleaching technique enhance imagination.

The wax painting technique cultivates sensitiveness for chromatic harmony.

The watercolours and salt techniqueFirst, cover the paper with water using a paintbrush. Then, let watercolours drop on the paper. Use blue, green and turquoise. Continue until the whole paper covered with colours.

Put some salt over the painting (use either fine or coarse salt, and the results will be really interesting.

The glue and salt technique Outline some stars of different shapes, using glue, on a black cardboard or a different colour. Then, immediately sprinkle salt on the sticky shapes. Remove the excess salt. Ask children to let one single coloured drop from the dropper. Notice how the coloured drop “runs” through salt, instantly colouring it!
