Exhibitions >> Bath’s most accessible gallery space is open 12 hours a day, 7 days a week. The exhibitions strand hosts seasonal shows including exhibitions by local, international professional and amateur artists, patients, RUH staff, local art, photography and print groups, students and schools. Our permanent collection of donated artworks and loans range from paintings and photographs to sculptures.

Soundbite & Hospital Notes >>Our music programme brings a diverse range of live music to the hospital and helps to create an uplifting atmosphere for all. Patients on the Older People’s Unit also benefit from regular performances and music workshops as part of the Hospital Notes programme.

Artsparks: Children & Young People >>The Art Sparks project is led by local artists running themed workshops on the Children’s Ward. We also run various projects, including film and animation, with the RUH home educationreintegration service.

The Bigger Picture >> We work closely with the Captial Building Programme to expand the scope for integrated artworks and design throughout the trust. Recent work has included the development of sculpture gardens and interior design work for the Dyson Centre for NeoNatal Intensive Care.

SUPPORTING THE CORE VALUES OF THE RUH WITH AN INNOVATIVE ARTS PROGRAMME TO ENHANCE THE HOSPTIAL ENVIRONMENT AND EXPERIENCE WITH MEASURABLE BENEFIT TO PATIENTS, STAFF AND VISTORSMission Statement 2012

Art at the Heart of the RUH was established in 2000 and presents a high quality programme of arts for the benefit of patient, staff and visitors. We have achieved an excellent reputation through a programme of innovative and ambitious projects which saw us short listed for a Building Better Healthcare Award resulting in a Highly Commeded award, which we are proud to display in our central corridor.

The programme covers the visual arts, music, film and literature through exhibitions, performances, readings, and participatory workshops for patients and staff.

Art at the heart uses the corridors, public and clinical internal areas as well as courtyards of the RUH provide the City of Bath with one of it’s biggest and busiest gallery and performance spaces. The programme includes professional and amateur artists and musicians, patients, RUH staff, local art, photography and print groups, students and schools.

Through exhibitions, participatory commissions, music and involvement in capital developments the arts are intergrated into the life of the hospital, supporting the delivery of quality care, soothing and lifting everyone who uses the hospital and enlivening the building and grounds.

“Frankie’s choice of repertoire was perfect for patients on the Older People’s Units. Her Ukulele playing made everyone smile, especially when she sang ‘When I’m Cleaning Windows’ which most of the patients (and staff) sang along with!” Hospital Notes Programme
