Drawing

• Drawing you can use many techniques for drawing such as scribbling, cross hatching, back and forth, stipping and scrumbaling.

• Preschool children tend to rely on drawings or drawing-like devices if they are unable to communicate by writing. They also recognize drawing as drawing before they recognize writing as writing, which suggests that drawing is the primary representational/communicative system

• Drawing is a form of visual art that makes use of any number of drawing instruments to mark a two-dimensional medium. Instruments used include graphite pencils, pen and ink, inked brushes, wax colour pencils, crayons, charcoal, chalk, pastels, various kinds of erasers, markers, styluses, various metals (such as silverpoint) and electronic drawing.

Painting

• Photorealism is the genre of painting based on using the camera and photographs to gather information and then from this information, creating a painting that appears to be very realistic like a photograph.

• Oil painting was first used in Western Afghanistan.

• There tend to be more shades of green than any other in commercially available paint colours because the human eye can distinguish more variations of green than of any other colour.

• The first interior painting was done roughly 40,000 years ago in what is now France by prehistoric cave dwellers, who employed stencils in some of the work and even “spray-painted” by blowing paint through hollow bird bones.

• Choose your inks to suit your purpose. Indian ink is a standard staple for ink artists – it’s permanent and waterproof. Waterproof inks are best for line work, while water-soluble ink should be used for washes.

• The fact that pen and ink marks cannot be easily undone or corrected like you might with charcoal and pencil might seem scary and unattractive at first. Be prepared to make mistakes: the rewards for those mistakes are the drawings full of the sort of spontaneity, passion and rawness rarely seen in carefully plotted pencil work.

• In fine art, the term 'pen and ink' denotes a drawing technique involving the use of black and other coloured inks which are applied to a support (generally paper) with either a dip pen or a reservoir pen.

Woodwork

• You are able to identify hard timber trees by characteristics such as their leaves because these types of trees have broader leaves than soft timber trees.

• Hard timbers are often a darker colour than softwoods are more denser due to thicker cell walls although again this does not mean that all are denser than soft timbers.

• The cells in these woods are closed so they cannot function like a conduit and this is why they have vessels where softwoods don't.

• These woods are also good for making really strong woodwork joints such as the mortise and Tenon joint because they are often dense.

Sculpture

• All Starlite Originals sculptures begin from an original made of plasticine, the result of an artist' sculpting and re-sculpting soft clay. From these originals, first-generation models are created

• The original sculpture is delivered to the foundry by the artist in the form of plasticine. Working models are created from the originals by Starlite master mold makers. In the old world tradition, the master mold is then created. Once the mold is complete, molten metal is poured into the cavities in the mold and left to cool to room temperature.

• Each part is then removed from the mold, cleaned, assembled, and hand tooled until it looks exactly as the artist created it. The sculpture then goes through numerous metal plating and patina application steps, completing the Mixed Media process.
