DECEMBER POPULAR VOTE WINNERS

Three Cities Art Club’s January meeting will add to our

extensive (or not) knowledge about Art Critics and Surrealism

- the last of the so-called movements in 20th Century

Art. When people see paintings that are very different and

that puzzle them, they ask "Is that Art?" and then rely on the

Critics to explain it. But are the critics doing their job? What

qualifies them? Are the Artists doing their job? What is it? Are

art centers and museums doing what they are supposed to do

in the Art World? Who leads the art movements?

We'll see and hear some intricacies of surrealistic

artists such as Dali, Giacomettim, Pollock, Miró and others we

think we know and, if we wish, we can speculate on art in the

future.

Kay and Don Masini will present a PowerPoint program.

They tell us they've found a lot more interesting and fun

information for our enjoyment (and education) than they

expected.

Joan Miró, Horse, Pipe and Red Flower, 1920, oil on canvas

Salvador Dali, The Persistence of Memory, 1931, oil on canvas

PREMIER ART EXHIBITION

ARTWORK BY MEMBERS OF THREE CITIES ART CLUB

Enclosed is information regarding entering your art in Three Cities Art Club’s premier exhibition at the

inaugural opening of the Gallery at City Hall (Westland) that Allen Brooks has been working so hard to

get off the ground. This is a wonderful opportunity to showcase the art of our talented members,

providing yet another chance to exhibit and possibly sell your work.

The contract between Three Cities Art Club and the City of Westland is being signed this week, the

hardware has to be ordered and installed so we need to be ready to exhibit in February. Without

knowing how many pieces will be submitted, their sizes and the exact number that the space will

accommodate (approximately 50 depending on size), it was decided that, if required, the executive

board members will determine which pieces will be hung. This is an unusual move but there has to be a

way, on short notice, to put this show together. We don’t want to be in a position of not having

enough pieces but we will try to include at least 3 submitted pieces for each artist. Therefore, if you

want to participate, please submit your application and flat entry fee of $25 for up to 6 pieces as soon

as possible (your best works please ).

Previously exhibited art (anytime/anywhere) are permitted. You are required to submit pictures so if

you need them taken (we have those submitted from previous shows), please bring art to the January

meeting and Marilyn will take pictures for you.

Due to the overlap of exhibitions, those pieces accepted into the Gallery at City Hall won’t be available

for the Call to Artists exhibit at Westland Library in April. Questions, contact Marilyn at 313-231-3939.
