Pop Art is meant to be fun. Pop Art began in the 1950s, but became very popular in
the 1960s. It started in the United Kingdom, but became a true art movement in New
York City with artists like Andy Warhol and Jasper Johns. Pop Art uses images and icons that are popular in the modern world.
Art Nouveau is an international style of art, architecture and applied art, especially the
decorative arts, that was most popular between 1890 and 1910. A reaction to the
academic art of the 19th century, it was inspired by natural forms and structures, particularly the curved lines of plants and flowers.
Bauhaus—literally translated to “construction house”—originated as a German school
of the arts in the early 20th century. Founded by Walter Gropius, the school eventually
morphed into its own modern art movement characterized by its unique approach to architecture and design.
The Arts and Crafts movement was an international movement in the decorative and
fine arts that began in Britain and flourished in Europe and North America between about 1880 and 1920, emerging in Japan in the 1920s.
