On the morning of September 19, new and seasoned board members, as well as employee giving coordinators, volunteers and donors, attended the annual Allied Arts bus tour. The half-day tour made four stops with presentations from 12 member agency and grantee representatives.

The 45 tour participants heard from cultural cornerstones like Lyric Theatre, the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum and Oklahoma City Museum of Art, while also learning how smaller, but equally important, organizations are impacting lives. Tour-goers learned that Life Change Ballroom and Metropolitan School of Dance provide dance lessons to underserved kids while teaching important life skills and mentorship. El Sistema and Oklahoma Youth Orchestras shared that they offer quality music lessons to children, bolstering their musical skill level and confidence. El Sistema focuses on low-income children who otherwise would not have the opportunity to receive music instruction, and Oklahoma Youth Orchestras provides substantial financial aid as it does not turn any child away from its program. While at deadCenter Film’s office, participants learned that the organization travels the state to introduce the various elements of filmmaking to rural high school students.

Your Investment in ActionIn addition to annual allocation grants distributed quarterly to its member agencies totaling $2.3 million this year, Allied Arts manages two additional grant programs with funds awarded twice per fiscal year to qualified central Oklahoma cultural nonprofit organizations. In the first cycle of the 2020 fiscal year, Allied Arts approved $98,650 in educational outreach and $29,516 in capacity-building grants in support of 47 unique projects.

The Allied Arts educational outreach grant program provides funding to expand the scope and reach of youth arts education in classrooms, afterschool sites, libraries and neighborhood centers. Projects supported in the first grant cycle of 2020 include: placement of teaching artists in urban schools serving low-income youth; free museum fieldtrips and concerts for schools; and afterschool programming at schools and art facilities.

The Allied Arts capacity-building grant program provides funding to strengthen the organizational standing of cultural nonprofits. Projects supported in the first grant cycle of 2020 include: long-range planning initiatives; professional development opportunities; and website and social media enhancement efforts.

For a comprehensive list of award recipients and amounts, please visit alliedartsokc.com/grants. The deadline to submit applications to be considered for the second cycle of 2020 educational outreach and capacity-building grants is January 24.

Employee Giving

Allied Arts is proud to participate again in the Heart of the City Campaign, State Charitable Campaign and Continental Resources’ employee giving campaign, all of which kicked off in September. Together, employees at the City of Oklahoma City, State of Oklahoma and Continental raised more than $139,000 for Allied Arts last year! Allied Arts is incredibly grateful to be included in their philanthropic initiatives. If you are an employee of the City of OKC or State of OK, please consider designating your gift to Allied Arts using #9100!

Leave a Legacy for the Arts

One of the long-range goals of Allied Arts is to build its endowment to a higher level, so that eventually 100% of campaign proceeds goes directly to arts organizations. As such, Allied Arts is currently engaged in an effort to grow its endowment through October 31.

You can donate by returning the envelope enclosed in this newsletter, or make a secure donation online at alliedartsokc.com/endowment. Endowment donations are fully tax-deductible, and checks may be made out to Allied Arts. Please contact the Allied Arts planned giving team at [email protected].

Thank you for your support!

Chaired by Amy Davis, Mansions Senior Living, and Blair Sims, Blair Sims Events, the event will be held on March 27 at the OKC Public Farmers Market. The ARTini 2020 theme is CAMP – think Lady Gaga and the recent Met Gala, not tents and s’mores!

Mark your calendars for the Allied Arts 2020 Campaign Kickoff scheduled for February 4, 2020 at the Embassy Suites on NW Expressway. Art Around OKC Launch Party – October 22Earlier this year, Allied Arts was named a winner of the Oklahoma City Community Foundation’s Great Idea Challenge. With a generous grant from the Foundation, Allied Arts has developed Art Around OKC, an online platform featuring a current, robust calendar of cultural and entertainment happenings in and around Oklahoma City. From opera to opry and from Shakespeare to contemporary theatre, Art Around OKC’s calendar covers a wide range of artistic genres.

The second phase of Art Around OKC will feature a directory of arts education opportunities for teachers and discounted flash ticket sales for art events and performances.

To celebrate Art Around OKC, Allied Arts is hosting a launch party on October 22 at Kerr Park in downtown Oklahoma City from 4-6 p.m. We invite Allied Arts donors, friends and downtown OKC workers to stop

by before they head home for the day. The event will feature live entertainment, food trucks, cookie giveaways, free T-shirts to the first 100 attendees and complimentary beer from Stonecloud Brewery.

We hope to see you there!
