EAST CLEVELAND Community activist Art McKoy was arrested today onsuspicion of drug trafficking. Police searched his Superfly barber shop at Lee Roadand Euclid Avenue and confiscated a pound, or half-kilo, of cocaine, police said.McKoy, Leroy Sheets and Earl Nash were arrested.

McKoy's daughter said the family can't comment onthe arrest until they have more information.

McKoy is the vocal leader of Black-On-Black Crime.He leads anti-crime, anti-gangs and anti-drug vigils,rallies and protests, often criticizing police

"I know Art doesn't have anything to do with this[drug raid]. There are too many people coming inand out of a barber shop for him to know what theyall have," said Judy Martin, the group's treasurer.

"Everyone in Black-On-Black believes he wouldnever knowingly allow drugs to be in the barbershop," she said. "Art is always a target because ofhis work in the community, speaking out againstinjustices, advocating in favor of open discoveryand trying to get rid of those red light cameras inEast Cleveland."

It's probably a good idea to adhere to the presumption of innocence fornow, after all there is a chance he might not have known who had whatin his barbershop. We did'nt convict the owner of Burger King when anemployee was selling weed from the drive through window.Many times an employee will carve out a stash spot thinking it's safewhile the owner has no idea.On the other hand if it's discovered that Art was indeed a part of thisfoolishness he should have his teeth kicked out and fight the systemfrom lucasville!

Like him or not he is innocent until proven guilty. I do not like him as aperson, but admire the work he does for the community and find it hardto beleive he would knowingly do something like this. He has the rightto the presumption of innocence until proven guilty. It is prematureignorance for the court of public opinion to butcher him before the factscome out and he has a fair trial. I hope he is innocent and able tocontinue his work. He is an excellent community activist. If he i s foundguilty (by a court of law), then and only then should he be prosecutedto the fullest extent of the it.

But seriously folks, back when Art was convicted, he didn't get any of the money that the good Ole City of Cleve put into his accounterroneously. His buddies spent all of that. I heard he copped the coke with the money he stole and had left overafter buying the Mercedes with proceeds inadvertently sent by the Cityof Cleveland in a wire transfer to Black-on-Black Crime. If he's on the10th floor, it's hard to look down and see any detail on the street. Somuch for the protest Art.

The police just don't get a search warrant because they think theremight be drugs there. This is obviously the culmination of aninvestigation. I have a hard time believing that the owner of a businesshad no clue that drugs were being dealt out of that business. Regardlessif the drugs were his, he was providing a place to sell drugs.

The investigation was over ten months long and only produced a poundof coke and what, three arrests? Am I the only person bothered by this?

They didn't seize any cash? No other dealers (or suppliers) werearrested? Numerous drug buys? For what? How could they spend almosta year on this and make such a small bust? If this was a major drug"operation," then why were no other suspects higher up the supplychain arrested?

Obviosly I have questions. I also question the timing of the arrests, andsearch for the political motivations behind them. They've sat on thisthing for ten months, why now?
