• There are many types of painting media.
• The main painting media are: oil, acrylic, watercolor and tempera
Oil Painting• Oil painting may be the
most difficult of the painting media to master.
• It is a slow drying paint that is oil based.
• Many artist prefer oil because it allows you to blend and mix color easily.
• Oil also allows you to paint very thickly and create interesting texture.
Acrylic Painting• Acrylic paint is
different from oil paint because it is water based.
• Acrylic paint has a fast drying time and cannot be painted thickly.
Watercolor Painting
• Water color painting is similar to acrylic because it is water based.
• However watercolor painting is unique because the paint is transparent. You can see color layers through one another.
Tempera Painting
• Tempera is similar to acrylic and watercolor because it is water based. However tempera is not transparent. It does dry fast and is good for putting in even color tones.
