JENNY JONES RUGS

3

Jenny Jones has a well earned reputation as one of the world’s most respected rug designers and has been recognised with a

host of international rug design awards, including the prestigious Carpet Design Award. Every rug within the Jenny Jones collection is designed by Jenny and her in-house team of professional designers. Handmade from commencement to completion [in the finest knotting with the highest grade handspun wool and silks,] each individual knot in these masterpieces is like a paint stroke. Like a piece of art the natural variations in each rug is a part of it’s beauty, desirability and individuality. A standard 2.4 x 3m rug can consist of anywhere between 800,000 and 1.7 million individual knots, depending on the knotting density.

In 2012, Jenny won the Best Modern Design category at the Domotex International Rug Expo held in Hannover, Germany. The award was won for the ‘Ruby Room’ design, which is part of the Connextion collection. Jenny was again invited to Domotex in 2013, and was a finalist in the Best Modern Design category for her ‘Zanzibar’ design.

Jenny’s designs are sold in Australia and throughout the world, including the US, Europe and Asia. The combination of colours, innovative design, and variable texture in Jenny’s rugs reflects her 19 years of experience designing for clients and stock collections. These aspects along with resourceful experimentation of the design process allows Jenny to create compelling pieces of Art of the Floor.

WABI-SABIOrganic fields of rich texture and a range of sophisticated colour palettes make Wabi-sabi a design favourite. A consistent pile height emphasises the contrasting textures of wool, and the lustre of bamboo silk amongst subtle layers of colour.

Wabi-Sabi is a Japanese way of life that seeks to discover beauty in inperfection. After all, perfect is repeatable and inperfect is perfect, making this design an interior designers dream. MAMLUKA linking piece between the past and the present, Mamluk is a design rich in history originating from the 15th century Ottoman Empire. Distinguished by motifs taken from what is often referred to as “Renaissance of the Islamic Arts” the Mamluk rugs have a sense of mystery about them.

An intricate pattern featuring large medallions comprised of intersecting compartments adapted from Islamic geometric ornament. Jenny has reinvented this classic and transferred Mamluk into the 21st century through the use of striking colours.

Typically associated with the Venetian school of painters, Lorenzo Lotto was most active during the high renaissance. These Lotto rugs embody the superiority and complexity of the time period. Featuring a lacy arabesque with Venetian influences, they are ornamental yet delicate.

These rugs are expertly designed to fit in any interior. They will add the style of the renaissance to any space, and are sure to be a conversation starter.

Named after 16th century Venetian artist Lorenzo Lotto who featured rugs with this design in many of his paintings. Jenny has reinvented and revived this traditional style pattern through simplifying the design and minimizing the colour palate to a two tone piece which is as innovative and bold as the painter himself.

Mamluk rugs originated during the reign of the Mamluk Sultans in Cairo. It is unknown exactly where or how these rugs were woven - they are shrouded in mystery. With the same air of mystery this design is ‘rubbed out’, suggesting an antique from the past. The delicate pattern and two-tone colour palette makes this design a superior statement of elegance.

This stunning collection is inspired by the unique Australian flora. Designing this collection was a true project of passion for Jenny who wanted to share the raw beauty of the Australian bush. This collection links her love for Australian wildflowers with her passion for design.

All of the rugs within the “Wildflowers” range use the highest quality hand spun and dyed New Zealand or Tibetan wools and Chinese silk.

Although ‘floral’ by nature, the sculptural forms and unique colours of Australian flora along with the organic compositions, result in strong contemporary designs which evoke a sense of being surrounded by the breathtaking Australian bush.

Jenny and her husband Dennis have developed the Alternative Education Program. This program introduces literacy, numeracy and life skills into selected rural areas where weaving takes place. The primary group are the Dalit or “untouchables” class.

Jenny Jones Rugs’ philosophy is one of creating respect for the weavers. Although hand-woven rugs are true works of art made by highly skilled and passionate artisans, weaving is still viewed as a low status job. Jenny strongly believes the only way to truly help people is to educate them. These basic human rights have been previously denied to many of the women in rural India. The introduction of this program has empowered these women and given them control over their lives and finances. Through this education program the weavers are given credibility within their society and peer group. To date over 2500 women have been educated through this program.

“Seeing a young girl get up and read basic words was a very humbling experience for us as we have been privileged to have received this human right early in life. It was so empowering.” – Jenny.

When you purchase a Jenny Jones Rug you are helping educate weavers throughout India.
