Experience art that has been created in a world trans-formed by technology. Discover art that responds, sens-es, and communicates. Encounter art that reflects our contemporary world and sheds light on our past. Re-spond to challenging materials and ideas. Take away a little bit of wonder and a wealth of inspiration.

MusicircusSeptember 2014 - November 2014

In 1967, musician John Cage staged a theatrical ‘circus of music’. His goal was to encourage people to un-derstand music, listening and aesthetics in a new way. Musicircus is inspired by that groundbreaking event. It brings together a small but extraordinary group of in-ternational artists who explore what it means to make art and music in a world transformed by technology.

NEW WESTMINSTER NEW MEDIA GALLERY

BiometricNovember 2014 - January 2015

Portraiture has been around since humans first began to create. Over time we developed ways of interpreting anatomical details: face, body and gesture. Artists also became adept at conveying power, personality, emotion, and the passage of time. Biometric brings together artists from around the world who use new media to create por-traits. This fascinating exhibition communicates, ages, re-members and breathes. Using biometrics (the science of identification) and new technologies, these artists expand our understanding of what makes us human.

Temporary ExhibitsWAIT FOR ME, DADDY October 4, 2014 - January 24, 2015

In 1940, early during WWII, Claude P. Dettloff pho-tographed The British Columbia Regiment marching down the Eighth Street hill to the train station on Co-lumbia Street. As the Province photographer took pic-tures of the column, a young boy ran from his mother’s grasp to reach for his father’s outstretched hand.

The exhibit examines this iconic photo, investigating what are to contemporary eyes, the elusive meanings, locations and social mores that surround the image.
