In Renaissance Europe, he was considered the original inventor of algebra, although it is now known that his work is based on older Indian or Greek sources. He revised Ptolemy’s Geography and wrote on astronomy and astrology.

I have been in the marine industry for 5 years through Marina Bay, which was a service centre and brokerage business. The Marina Bay brand was replaced in January 2014 with the launch of Smart Boating Centre with the establishment of New Boat and accessories dealerships.

How did you come up with the concept of Smart Boating? The leisure boating market in Bahrain is growing year on year primarily due to the new seafront developments across the kingdom. Despite this, new boaters do not have options available to them when looking for a new boat. We wanted to offer a comprehensive range of boats with reasonable prices and that are of high quality. Accordingly, we identified and secured the dealership of Campion Marine and Stingray as these fit our set standards and the requirements of the local market. Each of the boat manufacturers provides a diverse range of inboard/outboard bow riders, fishing and baby yachts with prices starting from as low as BD 5,000. To complement our boat dealership and, being boaters ourselves after finding it difficult to get quality marine accessories

and parts at reasonable

prices, we also secured several high end marine

accessories companies

such as Lumitec Lighting and Aerial Wakeboard Products.

What does Smart Boating provide? Smart boating is a full fledged marine company that offers boaters with brand new boats at a variety of pricing, brokerage services of used boats and yachts, quality marine accessories ranging from lighting to sound systems to flooring to upholstery and more. We also offer a comprehensive marine service centre covering fibre glass, electrical, mechanical, painting and other related maintenance.

You recently had an event in the Amwaj Marina, what did it entail? We did a test drive event for Campion Marine. The aim of the event was to introduce Campion boats to the Bahraini market by getting existing boaters and new entrants to try out the boats.

Were visitors interested in what you had to offer? The event was very successful and the visitors were all happy with the drive of the boat and complimented the high quality finishing of Campion Marine.

What are the offers provided to Amwaj residents? Amwaj Property Development wanted to offer the residents exclusive offers, which demonstrates their ongoing commitment to the residents. We developed a package in coordination with Amwaj to offer residents discounts of 10% on new boats, 15% on marine accessories and 20% on the Service Centre.

What can we look forward to with Smart Boating in 2015? We intend to continue the growth of the company by introducing

Bayliner Boats, a 57 year old brand that is part of the US Brunswick group, to the market. Bayliner is one of the world’s most successful boating brands with a large range of models to choose from and back up second to none. We are also looking to expand our accessories line by introducing new companies and their products to market. In addition, having secured tie ups with financial institutions, we can now offer low deposit and easy monthly payment terms on our boats and boating products. In December, we have completed the painting of the first leisure boat with Hempel’s new silicon bottom paint (antifouling) that lasts for about 5 years. After getting our technicians trained on the application, we want to aggressively market this product.

Can you tell us a little about yourself and how you like to spend your spare time? I love to spend my time out in the sea as it is my passion and this is why I, and the other partners, started this business. We aim to build our company by always sticking to our core mandate: Adding quality to the fun of boating.
