Dear Students & Families,Dear Students & Families,Dear Students & Families,
APRIL/MAY
Monday 25th April Anzac Day Public
Holiday
Book Fair Monday 16th May—
Friday 20th to be held in the Art Room
Welcome back to term two.
I hope that everyone has had a wonderful Easter break and received
an appropriate amount of chocolate Easter eggs! Many of the stu-
dents started their first day back by telling the staff and their friends
what they had got up to during the two week break. It sounds as if
many of our families were able to spend time together and enjoy
each other’s company. As I walked around the classrooms it was
also very clear that students were excited to be back at school and
were already engaging in the school program.
This week the senior school are holding elections for school cap-
tains. Four senior students were nominated for the position by their
peers. Senior students and staff will be voting later in the week.
Senior classes have spent a number of sessions discussing the quali-
ties of a school captain and what process we might use to elect
them. The role of school captain is new to our school, and I look
forward to working with them to support our school community.

Room 16 have made a fantastic start to the
year. This year our big project is furthering our
vegetable garden, where we hope to grow some
vegetables that we can share with our families as well
as cook with them in our weekly cooking program. So
far we have enjoyed some very long green beans, bok
choy and our corn is very close to being picked. Students have been able to
incorporate the garden into their literacy and maths
programs, They have kept a journal watching our
plants grow, to harvesting the vegetables, as well as
measuring and comparing the harvest. We have also
been very busy beginning to make our community
connections where we have spent time with the local
community gardens group and are hoping they return
the favour and come visit us in our garden. Students
have also enjoyed our various other programs
including our weekly
cooking sessions,
sport and electives.

Music classes this year at Warragul and District Specialist School have
focused on the most popular musical instruments used in the world today. Some
instruments examples that we have enjoyed learning about and playing include the piano,
drum kit, trumpet, electric guitar and bass guitar. There has also been great success with
students learning to play along with some of their favourite songs. We can’t wait to share
our musical skills when we get the chance to show off at events such as the Parasteddfod,
Music fest, and the School Concert later in the year.
