    Kaspersky Update Utility feature Kaspersky Update Utility is the application designed for downloading updates of selected Kaspersky Lab applications from the specified update source. The application allows saving updates in a local or network folder, from which they can be distributed on computers without Internet access. Kaspersky Update Utility establishes connection to an update source according to the specified settings and checks if any updates for the selected applications are available.[ If any updates for the selected applications are available, Kaspersky Update Utility downloads them into the selected folder. After the download, the application checks the updates for integrity. Results of the application's operation are logged in a report. With Artica, you will be able to provide an update source on a secured system.

    BENEFITS USING KASPERSKY UPDATE UTILITY FEATURE

    Create Kaspersky Update Server Mirror for Offline Updates Possibility of updating almost all products of Kaspersky Lab. Discharge the Administration server for providing updates. Ensure that adequate resources are available for updates. Use a non-windows system to store critical security updates. Ability to cascade repositories servers.

    Requirements:

    Artica needs at least 2vcpus and 50Gb of disk space for storing Kaspersky updates. You only need the Community Edition to use this feature

    Installing the Kaspersky Update Utility The Kaspersky Update utility is not installed by default on the Artica ISO or Appliance. You need to download the package and install the feature.

    DOWNLOAD THE KASPERSKY UPDATE UTILITY PACKAGE On the left menu, choose “Your system” / “Version” On the search field, type “update utility” Click on the “Kaspersky Update Utility” install or upgrade button.

    Choose the latest version and click on Install or Upgrade button.

    INSTALL THE FEATURE

    On the left menu, choose Your System / Features On the search field, type update utility Click on “Install” button on the Kaspersky Update utility row

    Manage Kaspersky Update Utility

    On the left menu, choose “Databases” / “Kaspersky Update Utility”

    Accept the End User License Agreement and privacy Policy and click on Apply.

    GENERAL SETTINGS The “status” section allows you to define how the Kaspersky Update Utility will retrieve updates. Schedule: Select frequency to check for updates Average frequency of downloading in the last years is every 2 hours. The connection Time Out while fetching data is 60 seconds, this is an higher value. Use FTP passive mode: Enable it if you are requiring passive method using FTP. This is a minor option because the tool is able to download updates using HTTP. Updates folder is a path where updates will be available through HTTP. Download program modules: Program modules update automatically downloads and installs patches fixing vulnerabilities found in selected products. Download differentiated updates: Differentiated updates (Diff) are a Kaspersky Technology that helps to reduce the traffic in your network when Kaspersky Clients downloads updates.

    Source By default, the Update Utility retrieve updates from Internet on Kaspersky Public Repositories. If you need to cascade multiple repositories, enable the “Custom source” option and define the HTTP custom source path (full URL).

    PRODUCTS On the products section, turn on the Kaspersky products you have installed in your network. The versioning is not strict but it defines branches. For example, if you using Kaspersky End-Point 11, use the latest End-Point version available on the list. Some latest versions use the same updates methods of older versions.

    When finish, click on the “Apply these settings to the server and put them in production mode” button.

    RUN MIRRORING AND DOWNLOAD If you did not want to wait the schedule, First click on the “Run” button under the status. Then click on the Download button to download in a zip format the entire mirror if you need to store the mirror in an USB stick.

    EVENTS Events section display only row when the Kaspersky Update Utility retrieve updates, you will not see the execution schedule but only when new updates are installed into the repository. If you need to display execution events, read the “system events” section of this document. The events section display the number of downloaded files and the size of downloads.

    SYSTEM EVENTS

    On the Artica system events, you can verify that the update task is correctly executed.

    On the left menu, select “Your system” and “System events”

    Search the entry “Kaspersky Update”, you will find all executed tasks by Artica.

    Provide updates to Kaspersky Products.

    CREATE THE WEB SERVICE Installing and configuring the Kaspersky Update Utility does not offer updates to Kaspersky products. For that, you need to create a Web service in order to create an HTTP/HTTPS updates files transport method.

    On the left menu, choose “Web services” and “Services”

    Click on the button “New service” Set a name of the Web service.

    Choose the option “Kaspersky Update utility”

    Click on Add button

    Click on the new created service link from the main table.

    On the “Server names” section set all the hostname you want to use for provide the web service ( if you want to create a “default” service add “*” means a “catch-all” service.)

    Click on Apply button

    On the “Ports” section, add a new 80 port without any additional option. Click on Add button

    On your new web service, click on the Arrow right in order to compile parameters and make them into production mode.

    Your service must be turned from “Not configured” to “OK” status.

    MONITORING ACCESSES

    On the left menu, choose “Databases” /“Kaspersky Update Utility” Click on the tab “Requests”.

    If you have setup Kaspersky products using your Artica server as source, you should see their accesses in this section. Take care about “red” status that means you did not correctly choose right products in “Products” section or enable the section “Download program modules” in the status section.

    Statistics Statistics are generated every night at 00:05. Currently Artica provide weekly graphs:

    1) The bandwidth used to provide statistics ( From the web service to the clients ) 2) The number of clients that have downloaded pattern from the web service.

    Setup Kaspersky products to use your Artica server

    KASPERSKY ENDPOINT FOR WINDOWS

    On the managed device, edit or create an Update Task. Click on the task to display settings.

    On the task settings, click on Options on the left section. Click on the button “Settings” on the right section.

    On the Source tab, click on the Add Button. In the Source field, type the HTTP address to the one of the hostname you have defined in Artica Web

    service.

    Disable any of other resource in order to make Artica server the unique update source.

    SECURITY CENTER

    On the left tree, choose “Tasks”

    Find the Security Center task named “Download updates to the Administration Server repository” Click on it to edit its settings.

    On the task settings, click on “Settings” link on the left section. Click on “Configure…” link on the right section.

    On the “Sources of updates” box, click on the Add… button Select “Local or Network folder”option Type the full URL to your Artica server web hostname in the field.

    Disable any of other resource in order to make Artica server the unique update source.
