In the days leading up to the festive celebrations, the Social Concern Society decided that the member should also bring some festive cheer to the less fortunate. As there are many charitable organisation, a decision had to be made on which charity the members would visit. The committee members caste d a vote and it was decided that the members would visit an orphanage.

The secretary of the society corresponded with the person in charge, Pn. Maisara, at the orphanage and scheduled a date to visit the orphans. She also took the opportunity to ask Pn. Maisara for a list of things that they needed at the orphanage. Then, the members organised a donation drive. The president of the society gave a speech during the school assembly and urged all the students to help out by donating food items, clothing or books. During the next two weeks, the donations we received were overwhelming. All the students, their family and their friends donated generously.

On the day of the visit, the members gathered at the school canteen at 7.30 a.m. The bus that we chartered for our trip was already waiting at the parking lot in front of the school gates. We loaded boxes of food items, clothing and books into the bus. After that, we boarded the bus and headed to the orphanage.

We arrived at our destination at about 8.30 a.m. We got down from the bus and met Pn. Maisara. She was waiting at the front gate for us. She welcomed us warmly and invited us in. We could see the children peering at us through the window panes of their classrooms. They were happy and excited that we were there.

Then, Pn. Maisara gave us tour of the orphanage. We were also given some background information about the orphanage and the children's daily activities. Later, it was time to meet the children. We introduced ourselves to them and they were eager to know about us too. Then we entertained them with some songs and stories. After that, we chatted with the children and played some games too. After lunch, the President of the society presented Pn. Maisara with the things we had collected through the donation and hoped that we would visit them again.

On the ride back to our school, we talked about out time at the orphanage. We realised how fortunate we were to have a family and a home. We also agreed what we should do more to help the less fortunate and
