INDIE ROCK MAGAZINES

Article Research

Trace Magazine

This double page spread is very plain and simple, the article is split up in the layout – the introduction is in a paragraph across the left page about 1/3 down the page – also then the rest of the article carries on further down the page in 2 columns. The font is the same for all of the text. The text for this double page spread is all the same – there is not

change in size or font. The text also stands out on the page as the background is light – the image doesn’t take away from the text either as after looking at it you would want to know what the image is about hence the text.

The background is very plain and so the text stands out and draws attention to it. I like this layout but feel a background like this is too plain for my magazine.

Spin Magazine

Spin magazine’s double page spread is very focused on the artist featured and their image – there is a large image featured and a small article. The article is small yet still the layout is the same as many other magazine. The layout is that the article is set in two columnsThis double page spread is simple and even though the image is very

prominent it doesn’t completely take away from the text – this is because he image isn’t too bright – the colours being dull actually helps the text to stand out, this is as the background behind the text is white and the text itself is white.

This text is on ‘Florence and the Machine’ –in this double page spread it discusses Florence as an individual rather than a celebrity.

Q Magazine

This double page spread is very different to the two previous one that I have looked at – the article for this double page spread is much bigger than the last two – the font is the same throughout the article – even the letter behind the text is the same. I like that the letter is a different colour behind the text and it stands out.

The text is in three separate columns and also there is an introduction in a paragraph on it’s own. I like the layout of this article and think that it looks more interesting than most – this is because the text is so full of information and the writing is small so I know that there will be lots of information in the text.

NME Magazine

This magazines double page spread is more focused on the image of the band and who they are. The text is small and shows that there wont be a lot of information as the text is only small and there is only two short columns for the article – and an introduction paragraph.

This article is split up, which I like – I like that there is a quote that is separate the text – what I really like about this is that even the colour of the quote matches the rest of the design of the page.

I also like that the background for this page isn’t completely plain but also that the background doesn’t take away from the text on this page.

MOJO Magazine

This double page spread is very different to many of the others as it is dark and the text is light – it shows a contrast of designs and how different colour can make something seem. I really like the colour scheme used for this double page spread to make the article stand out. This is one of my favourite double page spreads. This article stands out especially because of the white text on a black

page – but also the fact that the text is centred and in separate paragraphs rather than just in columns shows that the magazine is different – I really like the layout of this magazine. Also I like the image and the sizing of it – it’s big enough yet doesn’t take away from the text and story behind the text.

Kerrang Magazine

This double page spread is different to the others – mainly because the colour scheme for this double page spread is simple yet very different, it is because there are both light and dark colours used on this page – and even though both light and dark are used - and on the same background they both stand out.

The text stands out because – because of the colour but also alongside some of the text is some images – indicating who has said what in each part of the article.

What I like about the article is that they are all split up into seperate parts – this article is split up into different parts – this is shown through the use of different fonts – as well as the spacing and layout as a whole.

My Magazine Article:

For my article I want to write about the artist, in a personal way – like many of the articles I have looked at. I don’t want my work to be the same as all the magazine articles I have looked at. So I have decided that for my magazine article I will be using a question and answer text.

Draft Article: Q&A

Niamh is known for being a very serious, very honest person - here at Cronie Kid we found out that’s not entirely true! Speaking to Niamh earlier this week we talked about how privalidged she feels to be an

embassador for Women’s Rights in the UK. Niamh tells us she loves to be thought of as a ‘serious’ person but loves a laugh as much as the next person - Niamh tells us.

So Naimh, what has the last yearbeen like for you?

Well it has been very exciting! I mean it’s been busy but fantastic! I wish every year was as eventful as this year has been! I’m amazed at the support i have from my fans, my friends, my family, everyone! Its

astonishing!

How do you feel about selling out areas across the UK?

I’m completely baffled! I mean it’s a dream many young children, have - to be up on a stage performing infront of adoring fans. It really is a dream come true - sorry to be such a cliché haha!

Here at Cronie Kid we lovelovelove your new album! Where did the inspiration for ‘By the Moonlight’ come from?

Well really i’d been working on a few songs for a while and I was so ready to get back performing, and i just felt like i needed somenew material. I started playing about with the idea of a new album - but it was really

the response from fans that convinced me it was the best thing to do! They really are so supportive.

We’ve been told you’re a very serious person. Would you call yourself serious?

I suppose you could say that. I mean I am an embassador for women’s rights - which is a very serious thing, and so for that type of thing yes I suppose i am quite serious, although at home it’s a totally different

situation! Seriously if you aksed my friends and family they’d probably tell you i’m the most immature person that they know! Oops.

How do you deal with fame?

I don’t know really, i wouldn’t say I really ‘deal’ with it! I’m a private person, so i’m not really in the press a lot, I mean ask me something now and sure enough i’ll give you an answer, but i don’t go out of my way to

let people or press know my life story! Quite frankly it’s none of their business! Sorry to be so blunt, but i think dealing with the media means that kind of have to be.

How important is music to you?

It’s so important! It really helps me express myself! I adore all kinds of music! I don’t know how i would spend my time without music honestly! I coulnd’t live without it!

Do you have any plans for after your tour?

Honestly i have no idea. I’m quite happy not knowing right now! i feel excited not knowing what could be just around the corner!

“It really is a dream come true”

Obviously, you are already a role model for so many people, but how does it feel to be a musical inspiration to all the young people out there?

It’s crazy really! I like that people look up to me, I feel like a big sister to people that look up to me! I feel like as long as i’m around I want people to look at me and see a positive role model for everyone!

Who would you say musically insprires you?

Well many artists and bands! I have a very perculiar music taste. I like a variety of music, especially rock and punk music. Although I’m a sucker for an upbeat 80’s track or soul! I especially like Seal and Sheana

Easton! When 9 to 5 comes on I can’t help but sing along! A little guilty pleasure of mine! Haha Shh!

We at Cronie Kid LOVE your fashion sense! But we’re curious are you a big brands or high street kind of girl?

Well if i’m honest i like both! I mean who doesn’t love big branded clothes? I love brands but i’m not all about that! If i see clothes i like i’ll buy them, what does it matter if it’s from the high street?! I’ll tell you a little

secret.. One of my fave shops ever is actually a charity shop in Bista Village! It’s grown! I love charity shops! You can find right bargains in them! and not to mention it’s for a great cause too!
