4.what does author thinks about dowry in tribal society.

BRIDE PRICE A sum of money or quantity of

goods given to a bride's family by that of the groom in some tribal societies.

The bride price consists of five to seven cattle, one or two sheep and goats, cow or money equivalent to the value of one cow.

Reasons for bride price is that In anthropological literature,

bride price has often been explained in market terms, as payment made in exchange for the bride's family's loss of her labour and fertility within her kin group.

BRIDE PRICE (cont..)

The bride price may be seen as similar to the payment of maintenance to the wife in the event of divorce and the payment of family maintenance in the event of the husband not providing adequately for the wife in his will.

Another function of the bride price was or is to provide a disincentive for the husband to divorce his wife. If the amount is high enough, it isn't easy for him to be able to pay for a new wife

conclusion The terms bride price and dowry are

often confused.  Bride price is actually the opposite of dowry. A bride price is paid by the groom to the bride's parents or family at the time of the marriage.   A dowry is money or property brought into the marriage by the bride.  The dowry is usually provided by the bride's parents.

Women in every society face the problem of dowry but if she is empowered than we can all come down to this problem .

The author suggest some measures by 73rd constitutional amendment and by which women representation in decisions making bodies will certainly uplift them in all walks of life.

Comments and Concerns

The essence of the bride price is a unique features of the tribal society which is hardly found in any other communities.

Bride price was revered as a

symbol of sincerity and good faith that brought together the bride's and groom's families.

But in case of dowry it is a real stigma to the society and it has to be eradicated to protect the dignity of the women.
