    Astrology and Marriage Issues

    Shubha Rangaswamy

This article will give a birds eye view of various aspects of marriage that Astrology can cover to ensure

harmony and happiness in marriage. Certain simple combinations that cover nine aspects of marriage issues

    are indicated below.

    1. Timing of marriage

    a. Saturn, during transit, should create a relation with 7th house or 7th lord from Lagna, Moon or 'kalatra' significator Venus (for men) and Jupiter (for women).

    b. Examine whether Jupiter also creates a relation by way of conjunction or aspect. Check also, if

Jupiter during transit creates relation with 7th house or 7th lord from Moon or significator Venus

(and Jupiter) or lords of their stars

    2. Delay in marriage

    a. When Sun, Rahu and Saturn aspect the 7th lord or occupy the 7th house from Ascendant/Moon it

    indicates considerable delay.

    b. When Venus, Moon and Saturn are in 7th house marriage can be delayed upto the age of 30 to 35

    years

    3. Spouse

    a. Marriage to a person in far off place is indicated when Moon is in 7th house and malefics occupy

5th and 9th houses from Moon marriage.

    b. Early marriage to a partner living nearby can be predicted when Venus occupies 7th house and

    aspects its own dispositor.

    c. If the Sun and Venus are in 5th, 7th or 9th house, there can be weakness to the limbs of the

    spouse.

    4. Matching of horoscopes

    a. Matching of Guna/Kuta can be done considering the birth star of boy and girl.

    i. If the maximum number of gunas is 36 and a minimum 18, the match is approved as

    Guna/Kuta compatible.

    b. A happy married life is indicated if

    i. The Sun of the girls chart and the Moon of the boys chart are 120 deg apart

ii. The Sun of the girl and Moon of the boy interchange their houses and

iii. The Sun of the girl and Moon of the male aspect each other.

Marriage is a sacred institution that imposes equal moral, social and spiritual responsibility to husband and

wife. The institution of a hindu marriage includes the Saptapadi or the taking of seven steps by the

bridegroom and the bride jointly before the sacred fire. The marriage becomes complete and binding when

the seventh step is taken. The bride and the groom vow that they would be true and loyal to each other and

would remain companions and friends for a lifetime.

    Dr. E. S. Neelakantan

TODAY, ASTROLOGY IS looked upon as a science capable of delivering us solutions to many of the

present day problems. One of the common problems we come across in the world today is infertility. Due

to advances in science and technology it has now become possible for childless couples to have children

through techniques such as In-vitro Fertilisation (IVF). The first human birth resulting from IVF was on 3rd

February 1984. Prior to this, infertile couples had only one path to parenthood, namely adoption. This

technique of IVF initially brought it with it various legal and ethical issues but gradually over the last two

and half decades, it has gained widespread acceptance.

Although menopause puts a natural barrier to further conception, IVF has allowed women, a fresh lease of

life to court pregnancy in their post-menopause life. It is significant to note that the uterus of a female is

capable of supporting pregnancy, even after menopause.

    Ethical Issues

Some of the ethical issues which arose after the introduction of IVF techniques were:

    1. Conception is a matter involving only the husband and wife. These new techniques introduced

technology as well as third parties into the picture,

    2. Women could not conceive after menopause. But the possibility exists with this technique.3. Barrenness is attributable to the will of God. Artificial methods could defeat Gods will.

    4. Marital act is the source of pregnancy but in this method fertilization takes place outside the

    human womb and therefore immoral.

    Astrological Basis of Conception

If the lord of 5th, sign dispositor of 5th lord, navamsa lord of 5th or the karaka planet Jupiter is strong, birth

of issues is certain. Birth of issues is ruled out only if all the above mentioned factors fail. It is also said that

a strong 5th lord can successfully ward off the ill-effects of vamsa vicheda yoga.

A client wished to know whether the time would be ripe for adoption since he had no issues. On going

through the birth chart, I noticed that not only the 5th house was strong in both the charts (of the husband

and the wife) but also the running period was conducive for conception. Instead of giving them assurance

that they will have a child soon, I told him that they should not adopt a child for the next couple of years.

Within a year they were blessed with a child.

Another way of determining whether conception could take place is by casting a chart at the time of the

be answered using a prasna chart. The Ashtakavaraga chart too can throw enough light on issues related to

    conception.

Assisted modes can be adopted if

    1. The 5th house comes under benefic influences and the 5th lord is strong,

    2. The lagna and 5th lords are related to each other,

    3. Jupiter is well placed,

    4. Sufficient number of bindus are there in the 5th house in Ashtakavarga chart,

    5. Dasas and bhuktis conducive to conception are in progress.

If yoga for childbirth exists but hindrances or obstacles are foreseen then it is a clear indication thatPurushakara (human effort) rather than Daiva (destiny) can give the gift of a child to the native. In suchcases assisted reproductive techniques may be suggested.

Astrology is not a science of fatalism. For instance Muhurtha as a science, makes Man on a par withGod, because whatever can happen due to time of birth (which solely rests on Gods will) can be made tohappen by choosing an auspicious Muhurtha. But the silent catch in this theory is that even an auspiciousMuhurtha gets fixed and acted upon only under a higher energy. As is rightly said, not even a blade of grassmoves in this world unless ordained by that higher power.

If the whole process of IVF is started under an auspicious Muhurtha, it can only give beneficial results. This is one of the major areas where people who are involved in this technology, need to focus upon. A

prasna chart can determine chances of pregnancy. If the chance could be expressed as a percentage, thenthose whose chances are below 50%, may be dissuaded from resorting to such expensive and timeconsuming measures.

The birth charts of the couple may be assessed to find out whether prospects for children exists. If yes, thenthese methods could be suggested. If not, they may be advised not to brood over this but focus on other good areas in their life and derive satisfaction out of that.

Assisted Technology in producing children is one area where Astrology could prove to be a boon. Evenin an advanced and well developed country like Canada, the average pregnancy rate reported in IVF may

be just about 35%. Now the question is, which 35% is likely to succeed? Astrology as a science can helpidentify the unsuccessful 65% and assist them in employing their time, money and energy for better use.

    MARRIAGE - AN ASTROLOGICAL STUDY

MARRIAGE is an institution with varied association. In Hinduism and in the Catholicreligion at least, marriage is taken to be an indissoluble and sacred institution. Tothese faiths, marriages are literally made in heaven. In some countries marriage isa contract and it is therefore capable of being dissolved. Even where the law of divorce is found on the statute book, some countries like the United Kingdom donot allow a divorce as far as the royal family is concerned. When we turn toastrology, we only know that marriages are largely governed by planetarydispositions. We do not think that astrology would sanction divorce or oppose it,since astrology is neither a legislature nor a judge. Astrology only enables us tomake a marriage happy or otherwise.

Since the zodiac begins with Aries (Mesha). the natural seventh is Libra (Tula). Themain indicators of marriage are Libra and its lord, as far as men are concerned. Theseventh from Libra being Aries, the chief indicators of marriage for a woman areAries and Mars. In a woman's chart, the Moon too must be taken into considerationsince the menstrual period is regulated by Moon and Mars; and in a man's nativitySun too must be examined carefully.

In a man's chart, we have to consider Libra and the 7th from the ascendant, Sunand Venus; and in a woman's we must note Aries and the seventh from theascendant, Moon and Mars. The eighth houses from these govern the sex life; and

therefore Scorpio for the men and Taurus for women have to be added to the list. Then the extra marital life is determined by the twelfth house from the ascendant;and in a man's chart, Pisces too need scrutiny while in a woman's Virgo toodeserves a study. This might terrify one since all the houses and planets appear toget into the picture. But what is needed is to findout the strongest among theascendant, Sun and Venus in a man's chart, and among the ascendant Moon andMars in a woman's. The major scrutiny should be from this point only. The othersare needed as corroborating or strengthening aids only.

An afflliction to a planet or house arises from a conjunction with or an aspect by aplanet who is a malefic by nature or by ownership or by both. If a conjunction withor an aspect by a benefic also operates, then we get mixed character of the houseor planet.

A strong, well-placed and unafflicted Venus gives a harmonious and balancedmarital life of man. A similar Mars governs the balanced sex life of a woman. Theseare the two basic planets. Venus is to be examined with the Sun, and Mars with the

Moon. The position of Venus in a male chart is to be compared with that of Mars inthe wife's chart; and a similar comparison between the Sun in the Husband's chartand the Moon in the wife's is necessary. Whether they aspect one another, they arein square or trine to one another, or they are inimical to one another must becarefully noted. The next step is to see whether the Navamsa chart of the wifeagrees with the Rasi chart of the husband, and whether the Rasi chart of the wifeagrees with the Navamsa chart of the husband. These preliminary observations willbe taken up for a scrutiny and a later stage. Now we have to consider the possibleeffects resulting from certain positions of the planets. In the following , he meansand includes she also.

The Sun in the seventh indicates a successful marriage; and in the eighth asuccessful interest in the affairs where the strongest feelings are involved and inmatters of sex. The moon in the seventh makes one change his attitude frequentlytowards those intimately related to him; and he hopes the marriage partner to bemotherly. The eighth house position stimulates these interests. Mercury in the

seventh can either advance or related reciprocity of feelings and emotions; and inthe eighth he affects the emotions roused by others. Venus in the seventh is a verygood indication of happy marriage and of the ability to live with others in peace andhappiness. If this Venus is afflicted, there may be disappointment in this direction. In the eighth Venus secures a balanced sex life if it is not afflicted. Mars in theseventh makes one forceful in intimate relationships. If afflicted, it might bringabout irritation and quarrels. In the eighth it makes sex life very important for thenative. The seventh house Jupiter is very good for marriage life. In the eight itbrings prosperity through marriage. Saturn in the seventh brings about frustrationand disappointment in marriage, if it is afflicted. In the eighth, it makes one seriousin matters concerning sex.

Of the various signs involved in a consideration of the problem of marriage, thereare a few sensitive degrees which may be noted. All these refer to the Nirayana of Sidereal Zodiac only.

PLANETARY COMBINATIONS FOR ADMINISTRATIVE AND HIGH JUDICIALOFFICERS

Often there is a question as to how people having different horoscope enter thesame profession. The simple answer to this could be that their horoscopes mustbear some similar factors.

To locate such factors, an investigation into the nativities of those coming underthe same profession would be necessary on the following lines :

    1. The nature and related characteristics of a particular profession should first beascertianed and analysed.

    2. Likewise, the indications of the Zodiacal houses should also be balanced in thefeatures of the profession (e.g., 6th house in a horoscope is the house of government service as explained hereinafter.)

Thus the planets and the Zodiacal houses, so established for a particularprofession, would go to make the common or similar factors for each profession.

An attempt is made here in respect of administrative officers in publicadministration. Public administration has been defined as the "Art and science of Management as applied to the affairs of the state" and also as "that part of scienceof asministration, which has to do with the goverment and thus, concern itself primarily, with the executive branch, where the work of the govermnment is done."

The functions of the administrative officer (I.A.S.) are rather undefined andunlimited. However, in various capacities , they are of different natures. In onecapacity, one of his important function is to tender advice to the political executiveswith his inherent talent, knowledge of technicalities of administration and hisreservoir of information and thus, help in formulation of policies and enactment of laws. His task in this respect goes even further. In order to execute the laws andthe public policy, he sets-up the work of programme-planning; and thus, arrangesto maintain co-ordination.

It will not be out of season to mention that instead of considering the planets intheir individual capacity, an astrologer may normally, focus on looking for Raja

Yogas. One, two or more such Yogas in the horoscope may lead one to mistakethem as qualified for the I.A.S. job.

The view is not dependable for the following reasons :

    1. Firstly, a Raja Yoga is different from Rajya Yoga, and the former is not beconfused for the latter.

  • 7/27/2019 Articles in Astrology

    11/27

    2. The Raja Yoga in a horoscope indicates health, happiness and comforts andluxuries of life as per their constituents, and also certainly indicates political powerbut it would require a good deal of study and investigation before one coulddefinitely in what manner a Raja Yoga is likely to manifest.

    3. The Raja Yoga in different horoscopes are generally, of different type andstrength (vide horoscope under review for ready reference), except one or theother of them being common, but that too, not in all cases.

    4. The Raja Yogas are not always dependable, rather are ineffective, if thecomponent planets suffer from any inability due to maleficence, and thus, arerendered powerless to give results of the Yoga.

    5. Moreover, it is also to be noted that the Raja Yogas, no doubt, have a generialimpact on the horoscope, but they fructify mainly when the Dasa-Bhukti of thepalnets forming the Yoga come to operate in the life-time of the individualconcerned, which may not necessarily coincide with the time of entrance into theprofession.

    6. Over and above all, it is also very pertinent to see whether there is any maleficor evil Yoga in the horoscope, in addition to the benefics ones, which if it exists, willmar the results of even the benefics Yogas, just as a drop of poison in a jar of milkspoils all the milk.

As such the Raja Yogas do not, in themselves, justify the making of anadministrative officer and cannot be accepted as common factors.

We have to search for planetary influences, in the individual capacity of planets andthe Zodiacal indications by assessment of :

    1. The status of the planets amongst themselves;2. Inherent features, nature, qualities and tendencies of planets;3. Residential strength of the planets in the relation and association with otherplanets;4. Functional value of the planets with reference to a particular Lagna; and5. The nature and tendencies of the Zodiacal signs or houses.

    Status of Planets

According to Jataka Parijata (II - 2) ----

    12/27

meaning, that the Sun and the Moon are sovereigns; Jupiter and Venus arecounsellors; Mercury is the heir-apparent (young prince); Mars is the commander-in-chief; and Saturn is the servant. In saying that the Sun and the Moon aresovereigns, it must be understood that the Sun is the king, the Moon being theQueen. Similarly, Jupiter is the minister (External Affairs) and Venus is his wife(Minister for Internal Affairs or the matters inside the house).

Further, the Sun rules the six signs from Leo taken in the negative side while theMoon is the lord of the other six signs, from Cancer counted in the opposite side. Itis by these two luminaries that the supremacy over the other 10 signs has beengiven to Mars and the other planets. That is to say, the 2nd place from the Sun inLeo, his throne-seat, (negatively) has been alloted to Mercury, the heir-apparent.

The 3rd place has been given to Venus who is the Minister of Internal Affairs. The4th house has been given over to Mars who is the commander-in-chief. The 5thhouse is the house of knowledge and External Affairs, and has been alloted to

Jupiter. To the servant Saturn, has been alloted the 6th house.

A similar order would follow in the case of the Moon with reference to the signsunder her sway counted from Cancer (her throne - seat).

As explained above, the 6th place from the sovereign's throne, (the Sun in Leo) hasbeen alloted to saturn. In other words, the 6th house is the house of governmentservice and Saturn is the government servant.

The 6th house becomes all the more significant as it stands identical with the 9th(Bhagyastana) from the 10th (Karmastana); and also the 10th (Karmastana) fromthe 9th (the Bhagyastana); again, it is the 5th from the 2nd house and the 2nd fromthe 5th house. Further, no less important is the position of the 11th house, thehouse of gains and income, as it stands 6th from the 6th house. Hence, in thiscontext, the 11th house also plays an important role.

Further in consideration of the status of the planets amongst themselves, Jupiter(minister for sovereign), Mars (commander-in-chief i.e., possessing executivepowers) and Saturn (servant of the sovereign), represent fitness for theadministrative job. Accordingly, for the purpose of investigation, we proceed aheadto evaluate these three planets with reference to their natural, residential, functional and other properties.

    Saturn

Amongst other indications, Saturn signifies servile duty, whole sovereignty(Uttarakalamrita V -- 47-50); further, Saturn controls longevity, livehood, causeof death, prosperity and adversity. Besides, he represents general masses, publicresponsibilities, mass contact and political diplomacy.

Ordinarily, as a general dictum of astrology, any planets in his own, exaltation,

Besides, Saturn ispredominant in his own Drekana, especially, when in Upachayas (3,6,10,11) andalso in all the signs when retrograde ( Jataka Parijata II -- 67). Again, in caseSaturn acquires beneficience by temporal position, its aspects are productive of good.

Saturn in the 1st house (Ascendant) identical with Libra, Sagittarius and Piscessigns, according to Garga is capable of conferring royalty (i.e., power, authority andprosperity) on the native.

Saturn in the 1st is capable of conferring authority and power.

It is apparently so because Saturn in the Ascendant aspects the 7th (house of diplomacy) and the 10th (the house of livelihood, respect and dignity). And, he alsoaspects the 8th, the house of vocation. He sends exceedingly powerful rays in his3rd and 10th aspect , his quarter glance (J.P. II - 31). Again, in the case of PiscesAscendant, he is the lord of the 11th (Capricorn), in which sign he indicateshonours, authority, position and financial gains.

An almost parallel view is also expressed in Jataka Parijata (VII - 57)

It means that when Saturn is in the rising sign identical with Sagittarius, Pisces,Libra, Aries, Capricorn or Aquarius, the native will be lord of men, handsome andintelligent, and will lead a town or village.

When in the 4th (Simhasana or house of authority), he aspects the 6th, the 10thand the Ascendant. One becomes a great diplomat or high-positioned governmentservant and wields immerse power and gets success in foreign countries.

When in the 7th, where Saturn gets Digbala, he becomes very powerful andpromises a prominent high position in public life. In the 10th, normally, he givesreversals in life and causes sudden downfall if afflicted; but when exalted and

aspected by a benefic 10th lord, he extends splendour, honour, grandeur andreputation. He is the Karaka for the 6th house ( J. P. II - 51).

Assuming lordship of the 9th and the 10th from Lagna, in the case of TaurusAscendant, he becomes highly auspicious. Saturn, when he bestows blessings, hasno limits and can take one very high in all areas of life.

meaning, that Saturn always gives all desirable things when in the 8th.

    Mars

As regards Mars, he is called 'Vakra' (crooked) also, meaning diplomat. He alsorepresents kingship, royal aspect, authority and power to punish, magistrate, criminal cases, energy, courage, tact, action, executive capacity, service under aking, commander, land, lord of men and mounting a vehicle. He also indicatestreasure and litigation.

What an administrative officer needs in the performance of his duties is, mainly theexecutive capacity, tact and diplomacy, timely and effective action anddetermination to assert authority , to take wrong-doers to task for maintenance of law and order and to secure the welfare of the people by exercising magisterialpowers vested in him. These are the qualities of Mars. He is, thus, the strongindicator for executive service under the government. Like Saturn, the magnitudeof his strength will have its say in raising the position of the native high.

As regards the strength of Mars, he is also the Karaka for the 6th house, (the houseof service under the government). He has abundant strength in his Drekanna, in the12th, the 8th, the 11th, the 10th and the 1st signs, in retrogression, in his navamsaand gives prosperity when he is in the 10th from Lagna and also when he is inCancer ( J. P. II - 63). Besides, like others planets, he is strong in his exaltation, ownhouse, in a friendly house and Moolatrikona Rasi and bestows immense benefits

and makes one a leader. He is mighty strong in Virgo, Gemini and Sagittarius whenwithout the Sun. He gets strong even in his enemy's camp. ( Uttarakalamrita V -15).

He gets auspicious in the 8th in the matter of service,as in the case of Mr. MorarjiDesai who started his career as an administrative officer with exalted Mars in his8th. The 8th house is the house of vocation as well; and Mars is the Lord of 8th of the Zodiac (Kalapursha). Hence, Mars in the 8th as lord of the 8th is very significant

in service matters; from the 8th, he aspects the 11th also.

Mars enjoys Digbala in the 10th and gives prosperity. He gets exalted in the 10thsign of the Zodiac. Mars in the 10th makes one the beacon light of the family.

Mars in the 10th house gives executive ability, capacity for leadership andprosperity. He becomes specially strong as lord of the 9th in the 10th and makesone a judge or magistrate.

In association with Saturn, he gives brilliant results. According to Kalamrita (IV - 8),

Meaning, if Mars and Saturn be strongly placed i.e., exalted, in own or friendlyhouse with benefic aspect, and occupy the 2nd and the 10th houses from theLagna, the native will be highly praised in public and will be a great personage.

According to Jataka Parijata (VII - 9) :

When full moon in the 9th occupies exaltation, own or friendly house; and Mars andSaturn occupy the 2nd and the 10th, a ruler of the earth is born. Further,Jataka Parijata (VII - 44) says :

    Jupiter

Jupiter holds supremacy over all other planets as the preceptor of the gods. Herepresents the throne, treasure, royal honour, intellect, brilliancy, moving in village, travelling in a vehicle bordered on four sides ( Uttarakalamrita, V- 38-41); legalaffairs, diplomacy, power of discussion, respect and reputation, guardianship, wisdom, minister also knowledge and dignity. Jupiter is the giver of health, wealth and progeny. His aspect and association are said to be extremely beneficial.

All of these qualities of Jupiter have close identity with the status and duties of anadministrative officer. He holds high supreme position in the government. He standsstrong like other planets in his own, exaltation, friendly house and Moolatrikona Rasi.

He assumes power in Pisces, Sagittarius, Cancer, Aquarius and also in his debilitationsign. He is auspicious in the rising sign, in the 4th as well as th 10th from Lagna andgives much wealth.

He gets Digbala in Lagna; and thus gets strong, aspecting the 5th, 7th and the 9th withfull aspect. He is auspicious in his oblique aspect ( Jataka Parijata II - 31).

Jupiter's aspect over any planet as a natural benefic is of weighty importance apart fromthe fact that he may be temporarily ill-placed. The opposition aspect with the Moon isextremely good.

Jupiter in conjuction with Mars makes the native loving, revered, wealthy andacquainted with the science of computation ( Jataka Parijata VIII - 4). If thecombination happens to be in the 10th house, it makes one a judge or magistrate.

In relationship with Saturn, both being philosophical planets, Jupiter tends to give

philosophical views or an ability for impartial assessment of things. Thus, Jupiter instrength and especially, having to do anything with the 6th or the 11th, promises strongindications for an administrative job under the government.

    Conclusion

Now, in order to find the common astrological factors, the status and duties etc., of the

I.A.S. officers (first stage of the investigation) on one side area, in the first instance, to be balanced with the planetary influence and Zodiacal indications (the second stage) onthe other. The close study of the details on both sides in the foregoing paragraphs, shows the two sides are found quite balancing. That is to say, that the duties of theI.A.S. officers are duly contained in and corresponding to the status, nature and thetendencies of the three planets, Jupiter, Mars and Saturn. It is further to be seen how far the influence of these planets is contained in their horoscopes. The details of analysistherefore are shown in Appendix A. These details go to show that these planets are duly

    19/27

placed in the horoscopes, in auspicious and benefic and strong positions and are alsosimultaneously associated with and related to the 6th or the 11th or both houses.

Needless to say, the stronger and more beneficially the planets (Jupiter, Mars andSaturn) are placed in a horoscope, the higher would be the position of the nativeconcerned, even going to the level of I.A.S. officers or equivalent, depending upon thedegree of beneficence and strength of the planets.

    Tenure of Service

As regards the second phase or the tenure of service, it is the stage when these officerswork in different assignments. Here, the difference in the careers of the IAS officers

begins when they are appointed as such and have come to the actual field of service. They are then alloted different assignments that carry work and amenities of differentnatures. Some of these carry facilities like conveyance, glamour of supreme authorityand power with all paraphernalia and insignia of royalty; whereas in other cases, suchas secretariat assignments or, the like, they carry compartively few amenities and littlesplendour.

    IPS Officers

Now as regards the IPS officers, they are also likewise administrative officers in the public administration, governed by the same system of recruitment as IAS officers. They are similarly responsible for law and order and well being of the people ingeneral. So naturally, the same planetary combination of Jupiter, Mars and Saturnassociated or related with the 6th and/or the 11th house of the Zodiac, as in the case of IAS officers, would apply to them. The only distinguishing point between the twoclasses of officers is that Jupiter in the case of IPS officers will be a bit weaker compared to IAS officers.

    High Judicial Officers

As regards judicials officers, they too are recruited to the job through competitiveexaminations like administrative officers. They are also officers under the government, with status and authority, and they are empowered to punish the evil-doers. By exercise

of law in the public interest, by way of their jufgements (of law), they create a sense of law in the public to make then law-abiding and also on the other hand, providing asense of security under law to the public in general.

The distinguishing point in this case in that their place and system of work in the performance of their duties differ from those of the administrative officers. They have

    21/27

not to work practically in the field but they exercise law in their office or court rooms by pronouncing the judgement of law. In fact, they put the law of the country intoaction. It is very well said that law is a silent judge, whereas a judge is a speaking law.

This specific aspect require further probe into the nature etc., of the planets to locate the particular planetary influence concurring with it.

In this context, excluding Saturn, Mars and Jupiter, we should look at Venus out of theremaining four planets, namely, Venus, Mercury, the Sun and the Moon. Venus is the

minister (counsellor for internal affairs i.e., matters inside house), rules the kingdom or government authority, literacy composition, government seal ( Uttarakalamrita, IV -42 1/2 - 45) and furnished rooms. On the other hand, the judicial officers administer

justice having authority vested in them by the government, through judgement of law(i.e., legal literacy compositions) in their well furnished judgement halls. Thus, veryobviously the distinguishing features of their working system and place fall in with thequalities and tendencies of Venus.

Venus is auspicious in his exaltation sign, in his varga in the 3rd, the 4th, the 6th andthe 12th houses from the Lagna, in conjuction with the Moon; in retrograde motion and

when he is in advance of the Sun (Vide, Jataka Parijata II - 66). Venus in the 12thwill prove auspicious except when he is in the Rasi or Navamsa owned by Saturn.Venus as well as Jupiter become fully favorable, when in the house of a benefic and inconjuction with the lord of the same.

Venus will do good when in the 6th house ( Uttara Kalamrita IV - 9) and does not losestrength even when eclipsed. He has Digbala in the 4th. When Venus in strong

When Venus occupies the Lagna in Aswini Nakshatra and is aspected by all other planets, the person will be senior in the family destined to destroy the whole host of enemies ( J.P. VII - 6).

In the Appendix A, B and C have been detailed the positions of the planets (Jupiter,Mars Saturn in case administrative officers, IAS and IPS and also Venus in the case of

    TapaswiYoga

    Howis TapaswiYogaformed?

When Ketu, Venus and Saturn are in Trines to each other then it is calledTapasvi yoga.

Sometimes, when two planets are together and third have a strong relation withthem, say rashi drishti, then also tapaswi yoga can manifest.

If Atmakaraka is involved in or with Tapaswi Yoga then Tapaswi yoga is muchstronger as soul is involved in the yoga and hence the yoga is more fruitful.

    WhyTapaswiyogawork?

Trines are Ruled by Lakshmi and Quadrants are ruled by Vishnu. Quadrantsshow efforts and trines show fruits. Planets in mutual trines are conducive toeach other and help each other's significations prosper.

Saturn is a planet of Hardwork and discipline. Saturn shows doing a thing againand again in routine without wanting for fruits. Saturn in this yoga givesdiscipline and ability to work hard.

Ketu is a headless graha, it is above wants and selfishness. it denotesselflessness, evolution towards ananta and raise a person above the material

world. It gives an urge to know the hidden truth. Ketu in this yoga gives a personselfless devotion towards an aim and a strong urge to find the truth.

Venus gives passion, involvement and enjoyment. Venus make person enjoy thediscipline, hardwork and selfless devotion given by Saturn and Ketu.

Tapaswi yoga gives person a strong mind which can endure lot of sufferings.

    whendoes TapaswiYogamanifest?

Tapasvi Yoga can be triggered in overlapping periods of favourable Nakshatradashas and Rashi dashas. Although once triggered it's results can be lifelongeven after that particular dasha ends.

    What are the effectsof Tapaswiyoga?

  • 7/27/2019 Articles in Astrology

    25/27

Tapaswi Yoga doesn't mean a Sanyasi or Sadhu always or a spiritual person. Itmeansa dedicated and austere pursuer of something. Tapaswi means a person whodoes the 'tapa'. Tapa means pursuing an aim single mindedly (Sanskrit tapah,tapas- , heat, austerity) With hardwork, discipline and without any selfishness.

As respected PVR Narasimha Rao says "Tapaswis usually dedicate themselvesto research and uncover the secrets of the world. A Tapaswi can be into yoga, mantra, tantra, astrology or even physics or chemistry."

A person having Tapaswi Yoga dedicates his life to a area. Does hardwork andachieve success in that are. The dedicaiton can be towards materialisticinclinations or spiritual inclinations or profession or religion or any other area oflife. For example, anatheistic scientist who spends 16 hours a day in finding a cure for a disease can

be a tapasvi. Albert Einstein had Tapaswi yoga in his chart.

In which area or life and by which method will the person becomes a yogi will bedetermined by in which trikona (Dharam, Arth, Kama, moksha) and in whichdivisional chart does the yoga is taking place.

Namaste Richa,Honestly, I have received few requests from some members to write on theBalarishta area so I thought of sharing my a little knowledge with you alltaking an example too.I have learned the following Balarishta assesment method and principles fromVisti Ji's (teaching from 2004 West Coast confernce), and also my own study onthis area. If I am making any wrong application of the principles, please takethem as my shortcoming in my understanding rather than their teachings. Havingsaid that, let us get started.First of all let us understand what is Balarishta. After taking the birth it isnot uncommon that some newly arrived native's are met with terriblecircumstances in the form of dangers, disease or even death. The possibility of premature death follows the native, until the 24th year haspassed from the time of birth. The methods of ascertaining the longevity of thenative are inapplicable to a person below this age. These 24 years are termed as: Balarishta from 0-12 years, and Yogarishta between12-24 years. Sage Parasara later states that the Balarishta span is 8 years andYogarishta is 12 years (9-20 years of age).Hence for a native of 8 years of age or younger the principles of Balarishta arefully applied, and the normal methods for calculating longevity such as Pindayu, etc, do not apply.Having understood what is Balarishta, now let us explore principles which causesthe Balarishta and also those principles which cancles Balarishta.I have considered the following birth details for this analysis, and I haveattached the chart also for your convenience too:-Date: October 18, 2004Time: 2:57:00Time Zone: 5:30:00 (Eastof GMT)Place: 77 E 12' 00", 28 N 36' 00" New Delhi,IndiaIn this Chart, in Rasi, Leo Lagna is rising and its lord Sun is placed in 3rdhouse. Lagna is aspected by Rahu, Mer, Sun and ketu by Rasi Drishti. Rahu (7thlord) is also aspecting lagna by Graha Drishti. Ven the 3rd and 11th lord isplaced in Lagna.First of all we have to see the Sun's placement in the child's chart to assessthe vitality. Suns placement in the Dustna's (8th and 12th houses) the worstplacements in any chart. 3rd and 6th houses are a bit OK.Here in this chart, the Sun is placed in the 3rd house is not too bad and alsothere is a parivartana between the Sun and Ven. So Sun is basically in the

Lagna, so this indicates the native has a strong vitavitality towards diseasesand should be fine. The next thing, we should see is the, the Lord of the weekday and this nativewas born on Sunday and Vaara Lord is Sun. You will notice that, this Sun isplaced in the 3rd and Lagna ( after the Parivartana) house indicating that astrong vitality again. But Rahu is aspecting the Lagna and 3rd and 5th houses, hence some healthproblems are seen in this native's chart.Janma Nakshatra is Hasta and I am not going into the various Gandhanta's as thatwould be a separate reading itself and I am focusing on balaraishta's and let mecontinue from that point of view.Among the most important factors in judging balaraishta, the Moon is the key point of focus. So, next we have to see the sustenance of the native from Moon's placement.Herethe Moon is 12th lord and placed in 4th house, so that is a good placement. ButRahu and Sat are aspecting Moon by Rasi Drishti. This Rahu is in Marana KarakaSthana, so the overal this indicates some minor issues with the health of thenative but not threat to te life at all.Jupiter is also known as Jeeva, which means life force. The weakness of Jupiterin the chart can prove detrimental towards the life force of the native, if neither the Sun nor the Moon is strong in the chart. But here Sun is strong andJup is placed in 2nd house and aspecting the own singns too. So Jup isconsiderably stong, hence confirming the jeeva is strong.Having seen the Sun, Moon, Jup and Lagna lord are promising a good health, nowlet us see the 8th and 10th houses to see the balarishta too. 8th lord is Jupis placed in 2nd house. 10th lord is Ven who is placed in lagna. So these areshowing no problems to threat to the native's life.On the top of the above good indications, the placement of Venus in the Lagnawill eliminate any or all evils will be destroyed just as the Sun eliminatesdarkness. Here Parasara is clearly stating that the Kendras to the lagna if occupied by benefics Venus (Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra) will protect the native. So in this Chart, Ven is placed in Lagna which will protect the native andnothing to worry at all.Having said that, may I request Gurus and learned members to correct me if I amwrong in applying the principles.
