GOOGLE, AMAZON, ALIBABA & CO. HAVE PUT AI AT THE CORE OF THEIR BUSINESS TO CREATE SERVICES FOR CUSTOMERS that could not have been envisioned 10 years ago.
They have hundreds of data scientists and machine learning specialists working restlessly to maintain this competitive edge. At first glance, one would think that these companies keep this know-how exclusively in-house. But in fact, some of them released pieces of their software solutions to the public, in order to increase their development speed by leveraging the global open source community.
Examples of these solutions are deep learning libraries TensorFlow (from Google) and PyTorch (from Facebook). With these open source solutions, even small companies (with suitable AI domain-expertise) can enter the field of AI with limited ramp-up.

AN ALGORITHM IS FOR SURE THE CENTER PIECE IN ANY AI APPLICATION, but there are many more components involved.
Just to name a few, you will need: the right kind of data in a suitable quality, a high-performance storage system, a learning pipeline to try out different machine learning models, a deployment concept into your production system, and a frontend visualization tool to see the results. After all, do not forget about the supporting processes (i.e. integration into legacy systems) that may be needed to deliver overall business impact.
Only when all these components come together, you will be able to create an AI application that delivers an actual benefit.

IT IS CORRECT THAT AI APPLICATIONS ARE DRIVEN BY THE DATA YOU FEED INTO THEM. But it’s not only about the quantity of data, but even more about its quality. Real-life data is usually dirty, i.e. it contains missing or invalid values, because of the way it was generated. Bad data won’t be fixed by a smart algorithm; therefore, data cleansing is a crucial step in the creation of an AI application.
Also, even though there might be a lot of information in your data lake, you probably don’t have the right kind of data to answer the business question you are interested in.
USING METHODS SUCH AS GAMIFICATION, we develop novel and innovative data collection strategies for our clients, where we define data requirements, identify potential sources and create methods to integrate this data into the whole solution. We always start off with the problem rather than the data when defining use cases for AI applications.

LEGACY SYSTEMS OFTEN FORM THE BACKBONE OF A COMPANY’S IT SYSTEM AND THEY ARE MISSION-CRITICAL FOR ALMOST ALL BUSINESS OPERATIONS.
