Council Arts Development team will be continuing its Arts Micro Grant scheme for a
further 12 months.
Arts Micro Grants of £500 were introduced during 2012 as a means of supporting local
arts activity during the Cultural Olympiad year. During 2012/13, Micro Grants were
awarded quarterly to support a total of 30 arts projects, enabling more than 16,000

2. Arts Bulletin for Bath & North East Somerset - Readers’ Survey
Deadline: midnight on Sunday 17 March.
Many thanks to all who have completed our bulletin survey, giving us some useful
feedback. If you haven‟t done so yet there is still time: which also means you still have a
chance to eat out in Bath for free!
This Arts Bulletin is produced by Bath & North East Somerset Council‟s Arts
Development Team. We are undertaking a survey of readers‟ views to help us
understand the needs and interests of our arts community. Your responses will enable
us to provide the best possible service through the Arts Bulletin web page.
The survey is very short – there are only 8 questions – so should only take you a few
minutes to complete. Please click on the following link where you will be directed to the
survey page:
http://consultations.bathnes.gov.uk/consult.ti/artsbulletin/consultationHome
To encourage you to take part we are offering a £20 voucher to eat at the recently
opened Roman Baths Kitchen in Abbey Church Yard - opposite the entrance to the
Roman Baths. (See www.romanbaths.co.uk/visiting/roman_baths_kitchen.aspx ). The
Roman Baths Kitchen is operated by Searcys on behalf of Bath & North East Somerset
Council, and the voucher is also valid at the Pump Room Restaurant. The winner will be
selected at random from all those who respond by the deadline for completion. We look
5
forward to receiving your feedback.

3. Saving music at The Bell Inn
The Bell In - in Bath‟s Walcot Street - is not only a popular watering hole but is an
established promoter of live music throughout the week.
The current owner of the pub is selling up and has agreed to give first refusal to the
pub's customers. In response the Bell Community Share Offer has been launched to
enable members of the public to buy shares in a co-operative social enterprise and
become part-owners of the pub. See website for details of potential risks and benefits.
The share offer closes on Wednesday March 20th, by which time supporters aim to
raise £1 million.

4. Your Paintings website
See all publicly owned oil paintings and take part in „tagging‟ them
The Public Catalogue Foundation (PCF) and the BBC have completed their hugely
ambitious partnership project to put the UK's entire collection of publicly owned oil
paintings online. We are the first country in the world to give such access to its national
collection of paintings.
In total, 3,217 venues across the UK have participated in the project, with museums and
galleries plus universities, local councils, hospitals, fire stations, zoos and even a
lighthouse. 211,861 paintings are now on the Your Paintings website. .
To help the work of identifying and cataloguing what can be seen in each painting,
members of the public are being invited to 'tag' the paintings. Tagging - adding
keywords to help describe the artworks - is fun, easy and you don't need to be an art
expert to do it. The results will allow future users of the website to find paintings of
subjects that interest them.

5. Arts Council England - funding cuts to key arts organisations

6
2014/15 - enabling ACE to achieve the £11.6m reduction in spending required by
Government during the current 3-year budget.
