The cosmic dance of Lord Shiva as Nataraja represents creation, protection, destruction, embodiment and release. This event is celebrated during Margazhi month, on the day of Thiruvadhirai star and Poornima, full moon, in all Shiva Temples in India. There are five natya sabhas (Pancha Sabhas) in Tamil Nadu, where Shiva’s dance is depicted as an important deity. Chidambaram houses Kanakasabha (The Hall of Gold). The other four Halls are Velli Sabha (The Hall of Silver) at Madurai, Ratnasabha (The Hall of Rubies) at Tiruvalankadu, Tamrasabha at Tirunelveli (The Hall of Copper), and Chitrasabha (The Hall of Artwork) at Kutralam.
