WHAT KIND OF MEDIA INSTITUTION MIGHT DISTRIBUTE YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT AND

Although my film has a low budget, the kind of institution that might distribute my media product would be one that is a parent company that owns smaller subsidiaries. A good example of this is the distribution company, 'StudioCanal UK (formerly optimum releasing)'. The independent film company, 'Warp Films' is a subsidiary of StudioCanal UK, whist StudioCanal UK is a subsidiary of the parent company, 'Vivendi'.

The reason I think StudioCanal UK would be a suitable company to distribute my film is that one of their subsidiaries, 'Warp Films' produces films that are similar in content, ideologies, and produces films at a low-budget.As well as this, StudioCanal UK also primarily operate in the United Kingdom, which is the location of my film. This works well for 'Warp Films' as they are a Sheffield based company, which is also the location my film was produced in.These similarities show that this company would be ideal to distribute my film.

Another reason why StudioCanal UK would be suitable to distribute my film is that some products they have distributed are similar to mine.The film, 'Byzantium' (distributed by StudioCanal UK) share similarities with my film. These similarities include the low-end budget, and the main characters in this film are teenage vampires, similar to the concept of teenage zombies in my film opening.This would also ensure that my target audience is catered for, as viewers of 'Byzantium' would be the same sort of viewers for my film opening, due to the similar concept and genre.

If my film was to be distributed by StudioCanal UK, this would be at a great advantage, as StudioCanal UK is a well-known company, who also knows how to market the films they distribute.'Paddington', a recent StudioCanal UK film, has its own website dedicated to the film. This shows just how enthusiastic StudioCanal UK are at marketing and just how big their marketing budget actually is. Although this film is a different genre to my film, this shows what StudioCanal UK is capable of, and what the possibilities would be should they distribute my film.
