Preliminary task

• For my preliminary task I had to create a front cover and contents page for a school/collage magazine of my choice. The intended audience is students and I had to include my own photography and editing.

• My magazine is called N6F and its slogan is ‘Revision is your Decision’.

• I analysed the front cover of 3 Rap/Hip-hop magazines, I analysed the codes and conventions of the front cover such as the main image and how it attracts the intended audience or the mast head why it is made to look like it does etc.

• I analysed the Contents page of 3 Rap/Hip-hop magazines, I analysed the codes and conventions of the contents page such as the housing styles and why they are used or the typography used and why .

Double-page spread Analysis

• I analysed a double page spread of 3 Rap/Hip-hop magazines, I analysed the codes and conventions of the double page spread such as the main image and the ideology it provokes and the language used in the text & what it tells about the intended audience.

Magazine ideology proposal

My magazine ideology is a few paragraphs that I wrote that explain the decisions I had in the progress of my music magazine such as the name and the main purpose of my magazine, the ideology also includes how I plan on making my music magazine differ to others already in production.

Market Research

I created a survey to find out what people’s opinions are on music magazines and to find some information that could help me with my own magazine, I questioned areas such as preferred genres and average price people want to pay.

Publishing house Research

I conduct some research into publishing houses to find out some info about the size of the business, the location and regions it works in and what kind of magazine they publish, this helps me with my magazine because it gives me a clearer understanding of what the people like to see included in magazines and what they want the magazine to focus on.
