This Standard was prepared by the Joint Standards Australia/Standards New Zealand Committee

IT-019, Computer ApplicationsInformation and Documentation.

This Standard is identical with, and has been reproduced from ISO 10957:1993, Information

and documentationInternational standard music number (ISMN).

The objective of this Standard is to specify a means of uniquely identifying printed music

publications. It standardizes and promotes internationally the use of numbers on printed music

publications in order that one edition of a title or one separate component of an edition can be

distinguished from all other editions or components by means of a unique international standard

music number.

The terms normative and informative are used to define the application of the annex to

which they apply. A normative annex is an integral part of a standard, whereas an informative

annex is only for information and guidance.

As this Standard is reproduced from an international standard, the following applies:

(a) Its number appears on the cover and title page while the international standard number

appears only on the cover.

(b) In the source text this International Standard should read this Australian/New Zealand

Standard.

(c) A full point substitutes for a comma when referring to a decimal marker.

(d) None of the normative references in the source document have been adopted as Australian

or Australian/New Zealand Standards.
