Our Prefects Meet our amazing Year 6 prefects. These stu-

dents are always hard at work carrying out various duties across the school! From helping KS1 classes and the school office to monitoring wudhu and salaah, our prefects have lots to do

everyday!

School Council Election The Year 6 Prefects were given the responsibil-ity of organising the school council election this term. They were in charge of designing the Bal-lot Boxes, setting up the hall ready for the elec-tions and supervising whilst the votes were be-ing cast. Once all the votes were in, they count-ed up the votes. During Friday’s assembly, they popped balloons to reveal our school council team for this year!

Aamna: My job as Head Prefect is to see to it that all other prefects are doing their jobs properly and efficiently; and also that they are happy doing it! This job has really developed my confidence and leadership skills such as delegating jobs, organising events like school council election and talking to different people. Ayesha Dadabhoy: I enjoy helping Year 1 getting on with their work; we also help the teacher by cutting, stick-ing or doing display work. Ahmad: I organise tournaments for the table football and make sure that everyone is playing fairly on the play-ground. Aishah Naz: It’s fun to help the Reception children although they can be a handful but I enjoy my job very much… Rashidul: I enjoy my job as Office Helper. I have lots of fun jobs like counting money, trimming, photocopying, distributing letters and so on. Musa: As Deputy Head Prefect I help the Head Prefect but I also ensure that the wudhu area is clean and everyone is doing what they should!

Year 6… there’s no problem we can’t fix.

Design and Technology lesson Year 6 pupils went seriously creative when they had to make Islamic sculptures using clay. They moulded the clay into various shapes, sculpted geometric shapes or Arabic calligraphy on their objects as well as gave a final coat of paint to make their finished products stand out...

The Art of Debating Year 6 have been debating about some serious issues in class such as the misuse of drugs and Brexit! To spice things up, we have the Boys’ Debate Team ver-sus the Girls’ Debate Team! MaashaAllah, our boys and girls have grown in confidence over the term and are now assertive enough to stand in front of the class and present their points of view. Well done! Eishaa: Debating helps me build up my confidence and it’s fun! Owais: It helps me to share my opinions and say what I think. It showed me how to be a leader and help my team win! Aamna: It helps me to interact and work with other members of the class as a team.

Expanding Horizons through the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Year 6 pupils had the opportunity to visit RIBA on Portland Road, Marylebone, to develop their experience, knowledge and understand-ing of architecture through an interactive and a digital workshop.

The Clink Prison Museum Trip The Clink Museum, steeped in 600 years of His-tory, is where the children learnt more about the oldest and most notorious prison in Eng-land and about some of its infamous inmates. They loved the gruesomeness of it all! They handled many artefacts, including some real torture equipment and sat quite comfort-ably on an original torture chair!

SATs Prep Despite all the fun Year 6 have been busy working hard for their SATs. We cant stress the importance of consistent effort over the next 5 months. There needs to be a consistent but balanced approach so that pupils are ready for the SATs. In particular pu-pils should be reading for pleasure every day. The new book review templates should be completed every time they read a book or part of a book. Please see Ms Nusrat for any advice or support needed.

Three Faiths Forum – Multi-faith link school Year 5 met with their 3FF link class from Our Lady’s and St Georges Catholic Primary School. 1. Prior to the Link Day, we paired up each pupil to a pen-pal from OLSGCP and exchanged letters about ourselves. On the Link Day, Noor ul Islam pupils couldn’t wait to meet their pen-pals. Happy to say, the excitement was mutual from their counterparts from OLSGCP. 2. ‘Getting to know each’ other activities. 3. ‘Who am I and what are my wishes’ poem writing exercise, where the children got to share, not only what they liked and disliked but, about the life values that they hold dear to themselves and wish-es for the future for all of man-kind. 4. Discussion on what God means to us, and how we pray.

PE – Cricket and Boxing This term, in PE, Year 5 have been learning to play Cricket, and do boxing. Skills they have been practicing: •Running, jumping, skipping and catching. •Rhythms and combinations of jabs, hooks and upper-cut punch-es. •Ducking and dodging, and body flexibility techniques. •Batting and fielding skills. •Reaction and anticipation skills.

Poetry writing week Year 5 spent their last week of the term identifying different poetry features. They experimented writing with different different types of poems, including allitera-tion and riddle poems. Here’s a riddle poem written by Hafsa Majid - can you work out what object she is describing? I can type but have no hands, I could break by a single land, I could go around the world but I can’t fly, I can see you but I have no eye, I can do clever things but I have no brain, I can close but have no door, I can come in different shades and colours. Who am I?

Trip to Greenwich and Maritime Museum Journey and experience involved: Ride on Docklands Light Railway (DLR) joint project when Canary Wharf construction took place in the late 1980s and early 90s. Walk through the Greenwich Foot Tunnel, which was built during the Victorian era, to connect East Lon-don to the South. This was also linked to our History topic about the Victorians, tour of Cutty Sark ship/ museum by the Greenwich river bank. Workshop and activities inside the Greenwich Maritime Museum.

Year 5… we love to learn and thrive.

Year 2 had a fun time at the Discover Centre as they went in to space to join Hootah on a story collecting mission on planet Squiggly Diggly. The workshop helped children use their imagination to create their own stories. The children also had a chance to explore the outside play area and make their own masks.

As part of our learning on people who help us, we visited our local fire station and had a fantastic time there. The children had a look at a fire engine, seeing what was on it including tools to open doors, hoses and ladders. Every child had a go at climbing into the fire engine and asking lots of interesting questions.

For our science lesson children were re-

quired to find out more about babies, we

had our expert parents come in to take part

in answering some of the questions year 2

had. The children also had a chance to ob-

serve the babies closely and meet them.

They then recorded the answers to their

questions about what babies need, what

they can do and how they are cared for.

We were lucky to have a paramedic visiting our class to teach us how to deal with medical emergencies.

Each child had a chance to dress up as a paramedic.

For golden time, a cute little visitor named Hiccup came to see us. He is a British short-hair cat. Each child enjoyed giving it a stroke.

Year Two…working hard is what we do.

In the Name of Allaah, all praise be unto Him and may He send his peace and blessings upon Muhammad, his family and companions. It is a privilege for us all to be part of the education process in our community, whether it be as teachers students or parents. The Prophet (S.A.W) stated: “This world is cursed except for the remembrance of Allaah and everything that facilitates it and the teacher and the student.” (Tirmidthi). Al-Hamdu Lillah, having been at the school for sixteen years I have seen the school move from strength to strength and become more established in all areas. In the Islamic studies department we have developed our Quraan reading program, from the basics to more complex rules of Tajweed and this year we have started a new Hifdth class with early morning and after school sessions. With more ideas and plans in the pipeline it is always an exciting time to be involved with the school and Noor ul Islam Trust activities. When I see students producing work excelling their young years, management and teachers going the extra mile, governors working tirelessly and parents getting involved in their children’s learning and development to levels not previously known in our com-munity, it inspires me to work equally hard in the areas I can have an effect in. True teaching that of the prophets, is inspiring others into action. Recently I had an old school friend visit our school, he himself an established profes-sional artist with work in the Tate Gallery, he commented that the pupils at our school are truly fortunate to have the teachers that they have. Quite often we hear the com-ment being passed that we are so under resourced and state schools have this amount to spend and so on. This only reminds me of the verse: {…If you had spent all that is in the earth, you could not have brought their hearts together; but Allaah brought them together…} [8:63]. Likewise it is not the abundance of resources that will make our school more successful but the passion derived from our firm commitment to ethos of our school. That is to produce a new generation of young Muslims that can be the standard bearers of Islam into the future. Even if this means we expend our every effort in the process, as this in itself can be a more firm basis for our own salvation than our own deeds. Like the migratory salmon swimming back upstream to their original spawning ground, their sole purpose is to reach the spawning grounds to ensure the existence of the fu-ture generations. May Allaah use each and everyone of us to further this religion, Ameen. Ustaadth Ishaaq Ganee—Head of Islamic Studies

Message from Ms. Sakeenah Maudarbocus

I have taken this opportunity to write a little paragraph about how I feel coming back to Noor ul Islam Primary School after my maternity leave. When I left in 2016, the school admin office was going through a stressful period trying to implement new systems in all areas of school administration. However coming back last September, I cannot believe how much has been achieved over the last 1 ½ years I have been away. New systems have been introduced and the most prominent change has been the introduction of RM Integris, our school management system. For those who do not know, my role has changed from Fi-nance to Attendance & Welfare Lead – I cannot stress how greatly the introduction of RM Integris has aided me in my role! All these changes are happening because Alhamdulillah we have an amazing Head Teacher who inspires us with his lofty vision for the school and inspires governors, staff, pupils and parents to achieve. The admin team is full of energy, motivated and enthusiastic about the upcoming year. We hope to see all of you and your children after the break. If you have any concerns, please do not hesitate to come and see us, we will be delighted to help you. Your feedback is welcomed. Don’t forget… no lates or unauthorised leave (as this will incur fines), I am keeping an eye on these!

Message from Ms. Assia Ben Hamed & Ms. Murrium Razak We pray you are all in the best of health and emaan insha’Allah. As this term comes to an end, and we prepare for the next one, we’d like to thank parents for all your help, support and dedication, it’s a pleasure working in this environment! We have done so much together to move our pupils and parents for-ward to be more engaged and inspired. We know they are eager to return (especially parents!) – But … we all need a break! We hope you’ll all have a lovely holiday, and look forward to seeing everyone back on the 3rd January 2018 Insha’Allah.

Our Outstanding Office Helpers! We would like to take this opportunity to thank our amazing office prefects (Eishaa Bint Sami, Humairaa Manjra & Rashidul Islam) for using their initiative, assisting

the office and making us laugh!

Keep up the impressive work Insha’Allah!

He says, advising his son; "Observe, my son, the way you deal with the limits of Allaah and see how you can keep yourself within their bounds. Indeed, he who takes care of these limits is taken great care of, and he who doesn’t, is left to himself. I shall now mention some of my experience to you so that you may observe my striving and ask the Granter of success to bless me. Truly, most of the blessings I have been given have not been earned by me but rather they are conferred as a result of the planning of The Gentle One (Allaah) alone. I remember myself as a child: A highly motivated six-year old sitting in class with older boys. The intellect I had been given su-perseded of old men. I do not recall myself playing on the road with other kids or even laughing out loud. When I was seven or so, I attended the gatherings in the Masjid. I would not sit in a circle of mere wordplay, but searching for a Hadeeth Scholar who would narrate about the Prophet’s ( )صلى هللا عليه وسلمlife. I would memorize everything he said, then go back home and write it down. I was blessed for being granted my teacher Abu al-Fadl ibn Nasir ( )رحمه هللاwho would take me to different Scholars and let me hear the Musnad [of Imaam Ahmad] and other major works. All this time I had no idea of why I was made to do these things. My teacher recorded all I had heard, and when I reached pu-berty he handed me this record. I accompanied him till his death, and through him I learned the science of Hadeeth and trans-mission. The kids used to go down to Tigris River and play on the bridge, but when I was small I used to take a book and sit far from people by the shore studying Sacred Knowledge. Then I was inspired to abandon the vanities of this world so I began constant fasting and reduced my food intake to very little. I trained myself to be patient, embarking on a continuous pursuit in order to do so and staying up at night. I didn’t feel satisfied with studying just one science so I read jurisprudence, sermon delivery and Hadeeth and followed those who practiced Zuhd. After that I studied linguistics. There was not a narrating Scholar or a preacher where I lived who I didn’t sit with and whenever such a person would arrive from elsewhere I would go to him. I used to choose of virtuous deeds what suited me and if I had to choose between two things I usually chose the right of al-Haqq (Allaah). He has planned my life and cultivated me in a beautiful fashion, guiding me towards what is best for me. He has protected me from my enemies, the jealous, and those who might plot against me. He has made everything convenient for my studies of Sacred Knowledge and sent me books from unexpected places. He gave me good understanding, the ability to mem-orize and write quickly and a talent for authoring books. I lacked nothing of this world. As a matter of fact, things were quite the opposite as Allaah gave me more than enough. He put a great deal of acceptance of me into peoples’ hearts and made the impact of my words leave them not questioning the au-thenticity of what I had to say. Approximately 200 thimmis [i.e. people of the book who live in Muslim lands according to a truce contract] have become Mus-lim at my hands and over 100 000 sinners have repented in my gatherings. More than 20 000 men have announced their re-pentance from foolish ways during my exhortations. I used to go around Hadeeth gatherings of different Scholars and run till I was out of breath so no-one would precede me. I would start my day having nothing to eat and finish it having nothing to eat. Never did Allaah degrade me to take from another person, instead He provided for me in order to protect my honour. Truth is, mentioning all my experience would take quite a while. And here I am now and you can see what I have achieved. I will tell you the whole story in one single sentence, and that is Allaah’s saying: ويعلمكم هللا Have taqwa of Allah and Allaah will teach you." [Surah al-Baqarah(2); 282]"واتقوا هللا Published and Copyright by Dar as-Sunnah Publishers, Birmingham, UK.

This year's Beat the Street started off slow but gained mo-mentum as we hurtled towards the final few days of the com-petition. There were a select few mums across the year groups (you know who you are!) behind the scenes who pushed, motivated and thought up strategies to achieve the dream of winning first place. Masha Allah, when everyone pulled together, parents, teachers, pupils, extended family members, (and unbeknown to her, the lollipop lady), we did it! There were sweat and tears, there were highs there were lows, there were at times, shall we say, "cordial" encounters with the competition, there were even late night tapping ses-sions.... we did it all and had lots of fun and excitement in the process. #Team NUIPS!!! In the previous years, we did our best individ-ually. But this year we experienced that teamwork really does make the dream work. Our intention was pure, to win the prize for the school children. We focussed on that goal, worked together as a col-lective, got organised, and did it!! Well done to everyone!! Ahsana Israel – Reception and Year 2 Parent

To all the staff, the parents and especially the children at Noor UL Islam. This is a bittersweet moment; a moment that I didn’t think would come so soon. But, alas it has arrived, and it is time to move on, to change and adapt, in the words of Ustaadh Majid or the Social Greek - Philosopher Heraclitus “The only thing that is constant is... change”. In short I’d like to thank and show my appreciation to all those at Noor ul Islam those who have left and those who are still here; you have been an integral part of shaping my life always for the better. Sitting in the staff room and typing this letter has allowed to me reflect on my four years at Noor ul Islam, the years which have helped shape my perception of teachers, TAs, parents, students and schools as a whole, for the better. As my days here draw to an end, I will always remember the school that I care about and will always love and cherish simply because of the amazing people I have met. The students, who have never failed to take me under their wing and ensured me that I am as cool as they are, and for always encouraging me to be part of their day. To the staff for always laughing at my jokes and being my therapists, friends and best colleagues ever, especially Ustadh Majid for being always free - sometimes expensive – open minded and the single most amazing head teacher ever. And of course for showing that you can be an in-credible colleague, compassionate sister and brilliant coffee making best friend all in one – Ms Sadia Butt. To the parents for bringing into this world such remarkable and talented young pioneers into Noor Ul Islam. We were pleased to welcome our local Reverend Christine Rablem from St Marks Church in Leyton. As Christmas approaches she spent some time with our children telling them the story of Christ-mas. Our children learnt about the Christian be-liefs in relation to Christmas and also had the chance to ask questions. Children as always were fascinated by Father Christmas and Santa’s Grotto but also asked some more pertinent questions such as How did the Bible come about? The school as is customary presented the Reverend with some flowers and a box of choco-lates to thank her for making the time to visit the school.

The school was honoured by the visit of our local MP John Cryer and Councillor Chris Robbins to help in the unveiling of the school mosaic. The mosaic was craft-ed over many months meticulously by Ustadh Ishaaq to adorn the school build-ing and to present the school’s core values in a novel way. The mosaic was carefully mounted over the half term holidays with the help of a few parents and teachers in preparation for the unveiling. The occasion was also marked by a wonderfully crafted cake by Nailah Ashraf (PTA Chair) unfortunately unlike the mosaic itself the cake didn't last very long! The mosaic also allowed locals to relate to the school by providing a chance for conversation. Ustadh Ishaaq commented, “People who were walking by stopped and felt compelled to start a conversation and that is the power of art.” John Cryer and Chris Robbins were amazed at the work and congratulated Ustadh Ishaaq and the school on its fabulous new centrepiece. A full video of the unveiling is available on the school’s Youtube page.

As governors we have been busy this term with monitoring; attendance, tracking of pupils progress and attainment, safeguarding and health and safety. The last full Board meeting was held meeting in October where we discussed all these issues and the outcomes of our monitoring. Our next meeting will be in Jan-uary inshaa’Allah. Over the summer we were pleased to see the school receive a major facelift. Significant resources were invested in installing LED lights throughout the school, the parquet floor was sanded and polished, a new dedicated catering cupboard was built , installed a new floor in the Reception building, re-modeled the building to include a new room that is used for hifdh classes and also arranged for the removal of asbes-tos from the basement of the building. A hectic and busy summer, we thank those who worked tirelessly over the summer to make this happen! We are now seeking new community governors to join our existing body of governors. We look forward to receiving your applications. Jumuah notices sent on the 8th of December has application details and forms attached. Please email applications before 24th December to [email protected] We look forward to analysing your feedback which you gave in the Parent Survey both during Parents Evening and through the online link. If you haven’t as yet completed a Parent Survey please do so through the following link. We value your feedback highly and we use the results to inform our targets that we set for the School. We were very pleased to be invited to some memorable events including the Beat the Street Prize Giving and the unveiling of Ustaadh Ishaaq’s spectacular mural which has captivated everyone mashaAllah. Well done to all who took part in the Beat the Street competition and it was fantastic to hear about and to see the amazing feats everyone did to rack up the points. We also thank St Joseph’s School for being such great competition- as without such a good competitor the competition would have been very ‘mundane’! As Governors we are concerned about the news that the Francis Road Mini Holland scheme is directing all traffic past the school. We are working with the Newport Primary School Chair of Governors and have made our views and concerns clear to LBWF. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and contin-ue to press for a safer road layout. We warmly welcome the return of Ustaadth Idris who will be joining the current Islamic Studies Depart-ment team of Ustaadh Ishaaq, Ustaadh Hussain and Ms Naz. Welcome back Ustaadh Idris! However we are sad to see a real star of the Primary School Ms Maryam Al-Shammery has decided to leave us to re-flect on her next career step. We thank her for all her hard work! Jazakum’Allahu khair to all parents, staff and children for all their hard work this term.

Pupils undertake the fitness test of burpees, press-ups and mountain climbers to name a few (even typing that was tough!) every half term to battle for the individual class champion. For the first half term the victors for each class were; Hanifa Wil-son (Year 2), Eimaan Mahmood (Year 3) , Yasmine Amara (Year 4 ), Aadil Afzal (Year 5) and Nusaibah Munir (Year 6 ). The mosque had a recent visit from some local primary schools where children had a tour of the mosque and listened to the imam and staff from Noor ul Islam speak about Islam. As part of Interfaith week, the trust organised an interfaith friends dinner at Leyton Sixth form college. It was a very successful evening where friends of all faiths and none shared a meal and learnt more about each other. A marriage seminar was recently held at the Epicentre in Leyton entitled Finding Mr/Mrs Right. Rela-tionship coach Wajeeha Amin and Shaykh Mohammed Abdulle, Imam at Noor Ul Islam gave an insight into the spiritual and psychological perspectives needed in finding, connecting and keeping the right partner. The Trust was able to help a number of families abroad in this year’s Qurbani appeal. 982 orders of Qur-bani were made through Noor Ul Islam this year which meant that 2311 families were helped. All departments across the Trust are working hard to raise funds for the expansion project. Various events have been taking place across departments with the most recent being the Ladies Arabian Nights evening organised by the school’s PTA department. We thank everyone for their hard work and creativity. Your donations, duas and support are needed for the work to progress. If you have any fundraising ide-as or would like to organise an event on behalf of Noor Ul Islam, please email [email protected] with your suggestions. Work on the roof of the new building is on-going and progressing well, Alhamdulillah. To find out more about Project Rebuild visit www.noorulislam.org.uk/project-updates or find us on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. Message from Chairman of Noor Ul Islam Trust I am pleased to say there has been some great progress made in many of the Trust’s departments espe-cially Noor ul Islam Primary School. Trustees and other well-wishers are delighted with achievements made by pupils and commitment shown by staff and volunteers. May Allah swt reward you and your families abundantly. As mentioned earlier the new building is progressing well Alhamdulillah but we still require £4 million and aim to complete by June 2019. However, if funds are available it is possible for the completion to be brought forward inshaAllah. I would like to thank everyone associated with the school for their hard work and dedication. I make du’a that 2018 is more successful inshaAllah.
