National Bible Week

National Bible Week in the United States is usually observed annually from Sunday to Sunday of Thanksgiving week. It has been so observed since 1941 when President Franklin D. Roosevelt issued the first national proclamation. In the seventy-six years since, every president has issued a national proclamation, as have many governors and mayors, with U.S. senators and representatives also reading celebratory speeches into the Congressional Record. The National Bible Association originated and continues to sponsor this event. This year National Bible Week will be celebrated November 12-18. November 12 is International Day of the Bible. At 12 noon, local time, everyone across the world is encouraged to pause for a few minutes to read or sing the scriptures or otherwise creatively express their love of the Bible in some manner. Look for Bible displays in various locations around Asbury as we celebrate the word of God that day. New in the Asbury Library: Adult The Journey: Walking the Road to Bethlehem by Adam Hamilton. Donated by Jane Voelkel The Quilt by T. Davis Bunn. Donated by Mary Sue Wooten and Asbury's Quilting Ministry Creating Holy Spaces: Worship Visuals for the Revised Common Lectionary by Delia Halverson and Karen Appleby. Donated by Suzanne Rhodes in Memory of Bob and Carolyn Cranfill. Children's Non-Fiction Little Red Riding Hood by Trina Schart Hyman. In honor of the baptism of Joss Marsh In response to some of the concerns voiced during the Annual Church Conference in November 2016 and from the town hall question and answer session held later, printed copies of the minutes and reports from church committees are now available in the library. Look for the white binder on top of the shelf near the computer. Search our online catalog from your home computer or smart phone on the Asbury web site Library Page, found under Church Info, or go directly to www.asburyabq.org/AsburySearch.htm. Use the search function of your browser to find any combination of words, numbers or letters in any column. For Windows that would be Ctrl-F, for an Apple product Command-F or Apple-F, etc. Books currently on the UMW Reading Program have UMW in the Subject column and are found on the wooden cart in the library. A member of the Asbury Library staff is usually in the library during the Sunday School hour and on Thursdays from 9 to 3 to help you. You may contact us by e-mail at [email protected] with any questions, suggestions, requests or to place a hold on a book.
