ASFP AGM 2015
CEO Review
We also asked you the question: What are the key reasons for being a member of the ASFP?
You said:
‘Being a member enables us to demonstrate how important we see the whole issue of PFP. ASFP provides access to key influencers, policy makers and decision makers. ASFP membership enables us to contribute to the future of the PFP industry and to raising standards.’ ‘It is the most recognised trade body in the Fire Protection industry and we are a Blue Chip player in that industry - membership is a must have.’

We also asked you the question: What are the key issues that you would like to see the ASFP
promote via its editorial and direct contact initiatives?
You said:
‘Driving standards, supporting market education’
‘Competence’
‘Continue to focus on legal responsibilities and the value of quality versus cost’
‘Damages by follow on trades tend to be the hardest problems to solve together with main contractor knowledge therefore education of these personnel could have quite a dramatic and immediate impact.’
‘PFP position re BIM, A robust sustainability position.’

ASFP AGM 2015
CEO Review
We also asked you the question: What actions would you like to see the ASFP undertake that would assist in the support and or development of
your business?
You said:
‘Continue to raise the awareness of PFP and its critical role with a continued focus on the importance of quality and competency and the benefit of specifying third party certification throughout the process. Pioneering fire protection through innovation and professionalism
ASFP AGM 2015
CEO Review
Finally we also asked you the question: Where would you like to see the ASFP in the
next three years?
You said:
‘A bigger version of what it already is. We rely on the ASFP to promote the key issues that affect all our business, fire safety awareness.’
‘A governing body rather than an advisory one.’
‘Working closely with government and legislators to promote quality and standards and drive 'cowboys' and the ignorant from the industry.’
‘Recognised as the leading independent authority on PFP.’
‘There are many countries that do not have a direct trade body, ASFP in time could look at exporting their services.’

‘Very pleased with the show overall. Good end-user throughput, particularly from NHS and universities. A good range of audiences, better than expected international input on the first day. The second day was more end-users and the final day more contractors, installers and specifiers.’
‘We have been really pleased and very surprised with the exhibition. We have spoken to over 70 contacts. Wednesday has been the busiest day with lots of interest from installers and specifiers.’
‘Really pleased with the show. Busy throughout. Already booked for next year.’

CEO Review
‘From a clients perspective for the first time here in Ireland we have a structured and professional approach to Passive Fire Safety that has the expertise (David) and professional body (ASFP) behind it that is now both recognised and making changes within the industry, this would not have been possible without the drive and enthusiasm that David has brought to the industry both from a clients perspective but also from the installers perspective.
Passive fire safety is now moving in the right direction and this great work must be maintained to ensure compliance moving forward.’

This project will need to collate such information as:
Identification the types of PFP that are in widespread use and work through the different types of product.
What is the embodied energy, costs etc. in producing, delivering, installing and maintaining the different types of product.
Impact of the fire on the environment in terms of extent of damage, CO2, water run off/pollution, impact on costs of dealing, impact on social aspects (unemployment, relocation, displacement, family stress factors).
What is the impact of a fire on the product – reinstatement, replacement, demolition, etc.
Evaluation of the cost of rebuilding compared with reinstatement including the timescales.
Examples where good PFP has prevented significant fire spread within a building and to others.
Costs of PFP from cradle to end of life including identification of a realistic life of PFP.
