Community Investment Opportunity

On April 19, 1897 at 12:19 p.m., 15 men took off from the starting line in front of Metcalf's Mill on Pleasant Street in Ashland, MA. The starting official had no gun but purely shouted "Go" to start the first Boston Marathon from Ashland to Boston. The winners medal read “American Marathon”.

On October 28, 2012 hundreds of men and women will participate in the Ashland Redevelopment Authority’s first annual “Ashland Half Marathon”. The theme of this event is “IT ALL STARTED HERE”, “RUN IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF BOSTON’S LEGENDS” The race will be 13.1 miles and will start and finish at Marathon Park on Pleasant Street in Ashland, the original starting line of the Boston Marathon.

The course will traverse the town beginning and finishing at the original starting line. The route will also include some of the current Boston Marathon Route on Union Street in Ashland (Route 135).

4 time Boston & New York City Marathon winner Bill Rodgers will be speaking, running, and presenting awards at this years inaugural race.

This event is an excellent opportunity for your company or organization to get involved in the community, be part of an exciting and fun athletic event and be able to benefit Marathon Park and the development of a “Marathon Hall of Fame” here in Ashland.

This premier event for the Town of Ashland, Metrowest, and the entire Greater Boston area will be a popular venue for runners local, regional, nationwide and potentially draw an international audience.

Volunteers - All hands on deck are welcome and vital to the successful execution of this event. Come on down for a great team builder for your organization.

Runners - Test your fitness against yourself, the course and other runners. Produce 10 entries to the race and receive one free entree for your self. Make this a fun outing for the team.

Expo space - Make your presence known. For $300 you can showcase your company’s product and services to this valued demographic.

Promotional products - We can provide useful promotional products to the participants with your logo prominently placed on the item. Cost varies on products selected and an early deadline, to be determined upon selection, is required as production of these items is time sensitive.

In kind donations - If you have products that can be utilized as a bonus give away item to the participants are acceptable especially, but not limited to, consumables, we’ll make sure it gets distributed. Any consumer products are acceptable, especially, but not limited to consumables, appropriate for a just completed road race. Items useful for a raffle will be greatly appreciated and its source noted during this portion of the event are always sought after as well.
