Ashtakvarga and Transits

Application of Ashtakvarga principles is necessary for accurate interpretation of transits. We should look at the houses occupied by a transit planet with respect to all the eight references used in ashtakavarga to be able to deduce a correct interpretation of future events.

SAV (Sarvaashtakvarga)If a rashi has more than 30 rekhas in its SAV, it means planets transiting in this rashi would bring favorable results in general. Planets transiting in rashis with less than 25 rekhas in SAV usually bring unfavorable results.

If a rashi has significantly high number of rekhas in its SAV (for example, Taurus has 39 SAV), it means that Taurus is very strong in the chart. Planets transiting in Taurus tend to give good results irrespective of their strength.

It is important to note that nature of benefic effects produced by planets would depend over the BAV of the planets. For example, if a planet with 6 rekhas in Taurus in its own BAV and a planet with 1 rekhas in Taurus in its own BAV are

Page 2: Ashtakvarga and Transits

transiting Taurus, the former planet will produce better results than the latter planet.

BAV (Bhinnaashtakvarga)If a planet is benefic in its transit rashi with respect to 5 or more natal references, out of 8, then it will produce good results. If a planet is benefic in its transit rashi with respect to 3 or less natal references, out of 8, then it will produce bad results.

To determine the exact nature of the good or bad results given by a planet depend on its natural significations and its significations in the natal chart. To assess this, one should see the number of rekhas in the transit rasi in the transiting planet’s BAV. For example, if Mercury’s BAV of the natal rasi chart has 6 rekhas in Libra, then that means that Mercury is benefic with respect to 6 out of 8 natal references in Libra, and would produce good results.

In the divisional charts also this principle is equally applicable and validated. For example, If Venus has 8 rekhas in Leo in D-10 chart, then its transit in Leo in rasi chart invariably brings superlative results with respect to career. If Jupiter has 7 rekhas in Pisces in D-24 chart, then its transit in

Page 3: Ashtakvarga and Transits

Pisces in rashi chart would bring excellent results in terms of knowledge, education and learning.

The matters that benefit depend on placement of Venus and ownership in the natal D-10 chart. A planet with 6 or 7 rekhas (in its BAV) in its transit rashi brings excellent results. A planet with 1 or 0 rekhas (in its BAV) in its transit rashi brings very poor results.

Example:Lets have a look at the natal chart pasted below;

Lagna is rising in Libra. In the below mentioned chart, I am pasting SAV chart and BAV chart of rashis for the above mentioned natal chart.

As we can see, Scorpio is a strong rashi with 35 rekhas in its SAV. This means planets transiting Scorpio would tend to produce good results in general. On the contrary, Aries has just 20 rekhas in its SAV, and it means planets transiting Aries would tend to produce bad results in general.

Now lets try to analyze the transit effects of planets from the perspective of BAV.

Saturn has BAV 5 (5 benefic rekhas) in Scorpio, which is a strong rashi (having 35 rekhas in SAV), so transit of Saturn in Scorpio would produce good results.

Sun has 0 BAV in Aries, which is a weak rashi (20 SAV). Hence transit of Sun in Aries would bring disastrous results.

Mercury has BAV 6 (6 benefic rekhas) in Scorpio, which is a strong rashi (having 35 rekhas in SAV), so transit of Mercury in Scorpio would produce good results.
