Message from the Administrative Team... We hope everyone had a great month of February and are staying warm during the cold weather! There are many exciting things happening this month, starting with March Break (next week). We hope everyone has a safe March Break and school resumes on Monday March 17th. Our staff will be spending the PA day on March 7th in discussions around continuing to support our students in the areas of problem-solving and perseverance and how we as a staff can continue to work together to ensure that these skills are being taught and met. Our teachers will be continuing our conversations and planning during our Case Management meetings, in order to ensure that we are focusing our teaching and assessment to meet the diverse needs of our learners. At the end of the month on Thursday March 27th, we will be having our highly anticipated Parents Information Night Session, focusing on Stress and Anxiety. We are looking forward to a very well attended evening filled with rich discussion, prizes, dinner, and great resources. We hope to see you there! Cold Weather Staff and students have been spending a lot of time indoors due to the icy conditions and ex-treme cold weather. Please ensure that your children are coming to school dressed for the cold weather and prepared to go outside as the decision to go outside is often made just before re-cess and lunch.

Help Wanted: Lunchtime Assistant
We are looking for anyone interested in the paid position of school lunch room assistant both per-manent (5 hrs a week), or as a substitute. Assistants would work from 12:20-1:20pm. They would be responsible for supervising students during the lunch hour both indoors and outdoors. If you are interested, please inquire in the office.
Last week, Ashton Meadows was the host for the intermediate boys and girls basketball tourna-ments. On Wednesday February 26th, the boys’ tournament was held at Markville S.S. Our boys headed into the tournament as defending champions, but with a young group and only a few veter-ans, Victor and Brandon leading them, they had a tough road ahead. The boys came out on fire win-ning their first game in a close game over our neighbours, Lincoln Alexander P.S. The boys then split the next two games and in our final game against Sir John A. MacDonald, the experience of Mac-Donald's players proved too much for our young squad to overcome. The boys will be back next year under Jalen M., Devonte J., Shamar A. and Raphael F. and will now have the experience to hopefully once again be crowned area champions. On Thursday February 27th, the girls’ area tournament was held at Unionville H.S. Our Falcon ladies were heavy favourites going into the tournament as defending champs. Many in the York Region Basketball Association considered our girls one of the best teams in York Region. Early on in the tournament it was obvious to all that the tournament was going to come down to Ashton Meadows and our old rivals Unionville P.S. All the referees were so impressed by our girls skills and teamwork. With so much depth on the team, it didn't matter who we had on the court, the results were never in doubt. After a tough semi-final match versus a scrappy Buttonville team, our girls came face to face with Unionville P.S in the finals. In an intense hard fought game, our girls kept it close but in the end a few unlucky bounces and missed shots saw Unionville win the championship. We are very proud of our girls finishing second and are very excited for next year as we are only losing two members, Sha-dai S. and Amira A. The rest of the team is returning, which has already put us as the favourites again next year. We would like to thank all the students who assisted in the tournaments with score keeping and the logistics. They were skilled, courteous and received many accolades from the referees, coaches, and parents at the tournaments. Well done Falcons! Junior Basketball for boys and girls has started this week. We are still selling ASHTON MEADOWS USB keys. The USB keys will have 8GB of storage and
come in both wristbands and lanyards. The lanyards are purple with ASHTON MEADOWS in
white, while the wristbands are white with ASHTON MEADOWS in purple. We will be selling
the wristbands for $10 and the lanyards for $12. If you would like to purchase one they are be-
ing sold during recess. This is a great way for parents to celebrate and support their school.
Use the lanyard or wrist band at work to show Ashton pride!

World Classroom Student Program
Join the many YRDSB students and families who have partici-pated in the World Classroom Program since it began in 2005. Since then local teachers, students and their families have had the opportunity to learn about another country and culture and made life-long friendships by hosting an international stu-dent in their schools and homes. Host families receive $225 per week to cover the cost of hosting a visiting student. This Spring, a group of grade 7/8 boys and girls will be arriv-ing from Shanghai Xiwai International School. SCHOOL OFFICE HOURS Office hours are from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM daily. There is a telephone voice mail system that operates outside of school hours (24 hours a day). Please use this voice mail system to report your child’s absence outside of the regular school hours. It is on all evening to take your messages. We have three telephone lines available and a fax line. LOST & FOUND BOX To help us with the identification of student belongings like shoes, boots, hats, coats and books, please label all personal belongings. Labelling them will significantly aid us in the return of these items when they be-come misplaced. Parents/guardians are asked to regularly check our lost and found box (located on the lower floor) to find any misplaced or lost items. Twice each year (December & June) all lost and found items are put on dis-play and students are asked to review them. Any items that are left over are packed up and donated to local charities VALUABLES @ SCHOOL Please be advised that students are not to bring valuable items to school. Students who choose to bring any valuable item to school do so at their own risk. The school and staff cannot be held liable or responsible for any item that is lost, stolen or misplaced. Please label all of your belongings and remind your child to check the lost and found box regularly.
