MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

AAHRS is very proud to deliver the first Newsletter to all the members. We

appreciate Dr. Muhammad Ahmad and his helpers who have made an effort

for publishing this newsletter. We planned to publish 3-4 issues per year. I

also want to thank the Board of Governors who have summarized the AAHRS

past scientific meetings with nice historical pictures.

Asian Association of Hair Restoration Surgeon

I encourage all the members to submit

any abstracts regarding hair restoration

surgery or related topics to publish in

the next issues.

It is extremely important to consider

the ethnic differences in hair characteristics

that exist between Asians and other races.

Historically, there were very few studies

referred to this subject. I together with Drs. Pathomvanich, Wong, Hwang have

organized an ISHRS Regional Live Surgery Workshop focusing on Asian hair in

2007 and that might be the start of AAHRS.

Hair transplantation in the Asian countries has been increasing and has become

the biggest hair restoration industry in the world.

It is my great honor to be the elected AAHRS president and I will try my best

to build AAHRS to be stronger and bigger. I would like to invite all the members

to attend the 6th AAHRS & 3rd CAHRS Scientific Meeting that will be held in

Beijing on May 11th-13th, 2018. We expect a very large turnout of the

attendees from China. We have invited many world-renowned hair restoration

surgeons from all over the world to give us an education and updates in hair

transplantation.

Lastly, I would like the members to submit abstracts for presentations in 6th

AAHRS & 3rd CAHRS Scientific Meeting to [email protected]

Message from the Secretary

It gives me an immense

pleasure to announce that

the First newsletter of AAHRS

has become reality now. The

robust educational mission of

our society is evident through

the start of this newsletter.

The primary mission of

AAHRS is hair restoration education and patient

safety. Our goal is to establish basic safety

guidelines and share the knowledge, that can

easily be implemented by all the AAHRS members

throughout the Asia. The hair restoration has

expanded a lot when AAHRS started its journey

in 2010.

It was Dr Damkerng Pathomvanich and Dr

Tommy Hwang who took the initiative and in spite

of many hurdles, they managed to develop and

maintain a good platform for the physicians from

the Asian countries. The AAHRS is expanding and

has earned a worldwide reputation. The new

generation is more keen to develop a good

relation among the physicians and cooperation

among other societies is the key. I hope the

Newsletter will continue to excel will become one

of the leading source of information I

congratulate Dr Muhammad Ahmad who took the

initiative and will continue his efforts in the

progress of AAHRS. This is a very exciting new

initiative and we hope it will go a long way.

DR MOHAMMAD HUMAYUN MOHMAND

Message from the Editor

It is an honour to declare the

launch of First AAHRS

Newsletter (Asian Hair Forum)

as the Editor. The AAHRS has

been of great input in the

teaching and providing

educational opportunities to

the physicians who opt the field

of hair restoration. With the

increasing number of emerging societies from Asian

countries, it is essential to maintain a cooperation

among these societies and members.

In this inaugural issue, the history of AAHRS

formation is mentioned along with the details of the

previous meetings. The next issue will contain the

academic articles, viewpoints, discussions about

various aspects of hair restoration. Here I request

all physicians associated with the field of hair

restoration to send feedback and cooperation to

improve the quality.

The AAHRS Newsletter will provide a foundation for

the physicians to develop their skills and enhance

the coordination. It will provide the highlights of the

recent research in the field of hair restoration. I

foresee and hope the newsletter will transform

itself into a peer-reviewed journal of hair

restoration. I thank the Board of Governors of

AAHRS who have shown a great faith in me and

boosted my confidence in arranging the newsletter.

HISTORY OF AAHRS

Asian Association of Hair Restoration Surgeons

(AAHRS) was founded in Bangkok, Thailand during

the ISHRS Asian Regional Live Surgery Workshop

(25–27thJune,2010) by the efforts of Dr Damkerng

Pathomvanich, one of the Premier Surgeons from

Thailand. As these are certain striking differences

in Asian hair as compared

to Caucasian hair,

therefore, the Asian hair

required a special

description.

Dr Damkerg Pathomvanich

(Thailand) was nominated

to be the 1st President for 2

years. Dr Sunjoo “Tommy”

Hwang (Korea) was

appointed as the 1st

Secretary and Treasurer. It

was formed as the first Asian

society to promote

Continuing Quality

Improvement and education

for professionals in the field

of medical hair restoration

surgery for Asian people.

The AAHRS mission is to

advance the art and science of hair restoration by

licensed, experienced physicians who are qualified

to practice this type of medicine and who do so with

the highest degree of skill and artistry. We

encourage the free interchange of ideas, knowledge

and experience among members who aim to

maintain their skills and artistry to the highest

possible level. The AAHRS encourages professional

excellence and promotes amicable relations among

members.

International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery

As the past President of

AAHRS and as the current

president of ISHRS, I

sincerely congratulate you

on the publication of the

first newsletter of the

AAHRS. This newsletter

had to be published a little

earlier, but I'm glad

although it's late.

Although the ISHRS deals

of all races, Asian people

have many differences in skin and hair

characteristics from the Caucasian, and there are

many things that are not equally applicable. In

that respect, we need to deeply discuss and

debate the Asians hair transplantation. This led to

the necessity of the Asian Society, and finally the

founding of the Society. I sincerely hope that this

newsletter will be of great help to the members of

AAHRS.

Tommy Hwang, MD, PhD, FISHRS

President of International Society of Hair

Restoration Surgery

Association of Hair Restoration Surgeons of India (AHRS), India

It is a moment of great pride & honor for me to

head the Association of Hair

Restoration Surgeons of

India as President.

First of all, I would like to

thank and acknowledge all

my predecessors for their

hard work that raised this

baby into a full-fledged

organization. They have

contributed a lot along with

the Board of Governors and other members of the

association to successfully organize national

conferences that have become the premium

program for learning hair restoration in India. This

only has made my work simpler but responsibility

greater to exceed expectations that they have set.

Taking this baton forward from them, the new

team of office bearers would like to enhance

education and training in hair transplant with

some new initiatives:

• Fellowship program for newcomers in the field

of Hair Restoration.

• A separate Workshop program to teach the

basics of hair transplant.

• A Research grant for enhancing research in the

field of hair restoration.

As you are all well aware, the popularity of Hair

Transplant has also brought the menace of "Non-

Physicians and Technicians" doing hair transplant.

This has caused a great harm to the field of hair

transplant and patients at large. So it will be our

one of prime agenda to take up this matter with the

concerned authorities to bring some regulations in

the field; for which support of each & every

member shall be pertinent.

I am very confident that with the support of all of

you, we will be able to take the field Hair transplant

to new heights.

January 2013 the idea of unified platform was

given and an official national meeting was held in

Lahore on March 9, 2014, in which 25 hair

restoration surgeons were given the title of

“Founder Member” of the society. Dr Mohammad

Humayun Mohmand was appointed as the 1st

president. Later the scientific meeting was held in

Bhurban from June 5-7, 2015. About 150

participants attended the conference and 32

presentations were given. The conference was

awarded 16 Hours of Category 1 Credit points. A

new body of the HRSP was elected for next two

years, and a board of governors was elected to

maintain the standardization. Dr. Muhammad

Humayun Mohmand was elected as unopposed

“President” of the HRSP due to his contributions in

the field of hair restoration surgery. The 2ndannual

Thailand is increasing and the advanced techniques

are compatible with the Western countries. Both

recently FUE is more common. We do have a few

There are significant numbers of patients to keep

hair transplant surgeons busy, and hair transplant

surgeons are expected to be in even greater
