1BabylonCultural region based in central-south Mesopotamia (present-day Iraq) Has been a city state in Mesopotamia for many years.Was taken over by the Amorites after the fall of Akkadian Empire. The city began its rise to power in 1792 BC when king Hammurabi took the throne.

2Political SystemUnder Hammurabis rule, the city of Babylon became the most powerful city in the world. Hammurabi held the entire region under Babylonian control by 1750 BCE through military campaigns and alliances.Under his regime, he enacted code of law consisted of 282 laws called Hammurabis Code

Political SystemHammurabis CodeIt is written on a stone slab with44 columns and 28 paragraphs.The code of law established the idea of law which covers subjects such as slander, theft, and duties of workers.Example:

Law #22 (theft): "If any one is committing a robbery and is caught, then he shall be put to death."
