Hometown Specialty – “What’s Your Hometown Specialty?”

Student Video and Recipe Contest Overview

Create a lunch or breakfast recipe and short video using a cooking show format with the theme “What’s Your Hometown Specialty?” This video and recipe contest is open to all students ages 13 - 18 at Chartwells locations, with a limit of one entry per student.

The purpose of the video should be to teach healthful eating habits and feature a breakfast or lunch recipe that is special to your hometown or local to your region. Your recipe will be judged on the following parameters:

The top three national winners, as voted on by Chartwells Executive Chefs, will receive a visit from celebrity Chef Jet Tila to prepare their recipe with them at school.

Chef Tila has partnered with Chartwells’ parent company to launch “Modern Asian Kitchen,” a new fast-casual Pan-Asian concept with locations nationwide. He’s appeared on many cooking shows like “CBS Early Show,” “No Reservations,” “Best Thing I Ever Ate,” and battled on “Iron Chef America,” and was a guest judge on “Chopped.”

How to Enter To enter, complete and read the detailed Contest Entry Form and submit it to There are no entry fees! It is not necessary to produce a video to accompany your recipe, but it is recommended. Upload your video to YouTube.

HOW TO UPLOAD A VIDEO TO YOUTUBE:It’s SO easy. Upload your video to YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/upload) and provide a link on the Recipe Form so that we can read your recipe and view your video at the same time. Video entries should be between 30 seconds and 5 minutes in length. Make sure the title of your video is: Hometown Specialty – (school name, student name)

Make sure that you’re using one of the following formats for your video: .MOV, .MPEG4, .AVI, .WMV, .MPEGPS, .FLV, 3GPP, WebM If you have questions please refer to the Troubleshooting section of the YouTube website (http://support.google.com/youtube/bin/topic.py?hl=en&topic=2888603&rd=1), Note: The video must be an original work. No copyrighted material (music, images, etc.) or trademarks (company names, logos, brands, etc.) may be used unless you own or have a license to use the material for this contest. Written permission must be obtained and provided upon request for all copyrighted or trademarked materials.

Contest Rules1. INTRODUCTION

Chartwells, a division of Compass Group (“Sponsor”) is conducting the 2013 “What’s Your Hometown Specialty?” Student Video and Recipe Contest (the “Contest”). The contest will run at participating schools between October 1, 2013 and October 28, 2013.

2. ELIGIBILITY The Contest is limited to students attending a school where the foodservice program is affiliated with Chartwells. Associates of Chartwells, its parent company, affiliates, and any parties directly involved with the contest are not eligible to enter. Entrants must be students who are currently enrolled. Winning is contingent upon compliance with all contest rules.

3. HOW TO ENTER To enter, complete the Contest Entry Form, include a recipe of the dish you will be creating and submit it to the Chartwells Contest Manager in the foodservice facility at your school. All sections of the Entry Form must be completed. All entries must be legibly written or typed. Illegible entries will be rejected. Limit one (1) entry per person. All videos and recipes must be submitted by October 28, 2013. Entries will become the property of Chartwells and will not be returned.

Only entries received before the applicable submission deadline will have the opportunity to win. Entries are void if they are, in whole, or in part, incomplete, damaged, obtained through fraud or theft. An entrant may only use one email address to participate. Proof of submission is not proof of receipt by Chartwells. Chartwells and its agents are not responsible for any lost, late, misdirected, or incomplete entries or for any inaccurate transcription of entry information, or any failures and/or delays in on-line transmissions, malfunction or failure of any internet connection, malfunction or failure of software or hardware, or any other errors or delays in the transmission of receipt of entries, whether human or technical in nature.

A written release is required from each person who has a speaking role or is otherwise distinctly featured in the video, as well as those involved in the production of the video. This authorization assures that those involved know that the video may be shown publicly without further consent required. The release(s) must accompany the submission form and video. It must be signed by the participant(s), and if the participant/student is a minor, it must be signed by the student’s parent/guardian. The release must be in the form attached hereto.

Video content must not promote illegal behavior; discriminate against or support invidious prejudice toward others along ethnic, racial, religious, age, disability, or sexual grounds; invade the privacy of any person; contain offensive language or otherwise be inappropriate as determined in the sole discretion of Chartwells School Dining Services.

All submissions will become the property of Chartwells School Dining Services and will not be returned. Entries may be posted on Chartwells School Dining Services’ social media pages and may be displayed nationwide by Chartwells School Dining Services. Content from submissions may be used in future Chartwells marketing or educational materials. If so, Chartwells reserves the right to use entrants’ name. Be sure to review the detailed Contest Rules.

Entry deadline: All entries must be submitted by October 28, 2013.

4. WINNER SELECTION / REWARDSEntrant’s submission will be judged by Chartwells School Dining Services’ Executives and will be based on the originality of content, recipe and presentation. Winning entries will show creativity, best use of ingredients and best “Hometown Recipe” idea for either a breakfast or lunch recipe.

Three National winners will receive a visit at their school by Chef Jet Tila and will cook their hometown specialty recipe with him. School and District winners will receive an award certificate.

Entries will be judged on the basis of the information submitted on the Entry Form. All judges will be Executive Chef employees of Chartwells. All information submitted on the Contest Entry Form is subject to verification by Chartwells Chefs. False or inaccurate information will result in immediate disqualification. The decision of the judges is final.

5. REWARD PROCESS School and District Level Rewards: Each school winner becomes eligible to be judged for the National reward. These winners will be announced by November 30, 2013 and will be contacted by the respective school’s Contest Manager. Arrangements for presentation of School, District and National rewards will be made at the school level.

6. REQUIREMENTS OF WINNERS It is the sole responsibility of winners to claim prizes. Chartwells management will make every reasonable effort to contact the winner at his/her school using the information provided on the Entry Form.

7. AFFIDAVIT The national and regional winners and, if these winners are below the age of 18, the winners’ parent(s)/guardian(s), will be required to sign and return an Affidavit of Eligibility, Liability Release, and where lawful, a publicity release, within ten (10) days of notification. If a designated national or regional winner does not return the release within the ten (10)-day time period, he/she will be disqualified and another winner will be chosen by Sponsor in the place of the disqualified person.

8. MISCELLANEOUS By entering the Contest and submitting a video, each entrant: i) represents and warrants to Chartwells that his/her video is original and was recorded and/or owned by the entrant; ii) waives all moral rights, if any, in and to his/her video in favor of Chartwells; iii) grants Chartwells an irrevocable, non-exclusive, assignable, sub-licensable, paid-up, worldwide license to use, reproduce, communicate, distribute, edit, adapt, copy and otherwise use (“Use”) all or any part of the video for any purpose relating to this Contest or any other advertising conducted by or for Chartwells for any purpose; iv) represents and warrants to Chartwells that he/she has obtained all permissions and clearances necessary for the entrant to grant the license to Chartwells set out above and for Chartwells to use entrant’s video; v) represents and warrants to Chartwells that Chartwells’ use of his/her video will not infringe the intellectual property or other rights of any third party; and vi) agrees that, at the sole discretion of Chartwells, videos may be posted on Chartwells’ and/or third party websites as is or may be edited for content and/or length. All entrants will be required to sign an Affidavit confirming the above statements prior to winning any prize. Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole discretion, remove any video deemed to be or contain material that is obscene, defamatory, unlawful, contains foul language, or otherwise inappropriate in nature or content and to disqualify the Entrant of any such video. In creating the video, the winner shall be an independent contractor, and shall not be deemed an employee of Chartwells. All videos are subject to YouTube’s Terms of Use which are available at www.youtube.com/t/terms.

NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. VOID WHERE PROHIBITED BY LAW. All taxes, fees and surcharges and any other expenses not listed as included in the prize are the sole responsibility of the prize winner. Acceptance of a prize constitutes permission for Sponsor or its advertising agencies to use winner’s name and likeness for advertising and promotional purposes in any media without additional compensation unless prohibited by law. The decisions of the Sponsor are final and binding in all matters relating to the Contest. By participating in the Contest, winner agrees to release and hold harmless Chartwells, its parents, subsidiaries, and affiliated companies, and their respective officers, directors, employees, and agents from and against any and all claims or causes of action arising out of the prizes, the use thereof, or participation in the Contest. All entries become the property of Chartwells. If for any reason the Contest is not capable of running as planned due to tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failure, human error, or any other causes beyond the control of Chartwells that corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity, or proper conduct of the Contest, Chartwells reserves the right in its sole discretion to cancel, terminate, modify, or suspend the Contest.

The entrant is the individual whose name appears on the online registration form associated with that entry. Only one (1) entrant’s name may appear on the registration form. In the event of a dispute, if the name of the entrant on the entry form is not the same as the authorized account holder of the e-mail address at the time of entry, the entry will be disqualified. The “authorized account holder” is defined as the natural person who is assigned to an e-mail address by an Internet access provider, online service provider, or other organization responsible for assigning e-mail addresses for the domain associated with the submitted e-mail address. All taxes, fees, and surcharges, and any other expenses not listed as included in the prize are the sole responsibility of the prize winner. Sponsor assumes no responsibility for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, communications line failure, theft or destruction or unauthorized access to, or alteration of, entries. Sponsor and/or its agents are not responsible for any problems or technical malfunction of any telephone network or telephone lines, computer on-line systems, servers, or providers, computer equipment, software, failure of any e-mail or entry to be received by Sponsor on account of technical problems, human error or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any Web site, or any combination thereof, including any injury or damage to computers, entrant’s or any other person’s computer or any other property, relating to or resulting from participation in the Contest or downloading any materials in the Contest.

9. DISPUTES Any and all disputes, claims, and causes of action with Sponsor arising out of or connected with Contest, other than determination of validity of claims, shall be resolved individually and exclusively by arbitration under the Commercial Dispute Resolution Procedures of the American Arbitration Association in Charlotte, North Carolina. Any and all claims, judgments, and awards shall be limited to actual out-of-pocket costs incurred, including costs associated with participating in the Contest, but in no event attorney’s fees. Participants hereby waive the rights: (i) to claim or be awarded any punitive, direct, indirect, incidental, and consequential damages, and any other damages, other than for actual out-of-pocket expenses; and (ii) to have damages multiplied or otherwise increased. All issues and questions concerning the construction, validity, interpretation, and enforceability of these Official Rules, shall be governed by, and construed in accordance with, the laws of the State of North Carolina.
