Several of those racers are staying an extra week to ski the Buckwheat and help trail crew volunteers get the course ready. As of the end of online registration Sunday, there were 364 skiers registered. This number will jump closer to 400 following late registration at bib pickup in Whitehorse on Thursday at Sport Yukon and in Skagway on Friday at AB Hall. People coming up from Skagway on Saturday should leave early enough to have plenty of time to get through Canada Customs, which opens at 7 AM. The first shuttle bus from Skagway will leave at 7 instead of 8. All other Buckwheat activities are proceeding as scheduled. A highlight of this year’s awards banquet will be the “World Premiere” of the 30 th Anniversary video by Elise Giordano. Several bands will be playing in Skagway on Friday and Saturday. See details in the race schedule at www.buckwheatskiclassic.com and follow race week updates on the Log Cabin Ski Society’s Facebook page. The race is a fundraiser for Log Cabin Ski Society, which maintains the ski trails with equipment and volunteers from Skagway and the Yukon. These trails have been recognized as an official non-motorized recreation area by BC Forestry. LCSS volunteers groom and set track on these trails all winter and leading up to the Buckwheat. The trails are located on the S. Klondike Highway, 27 miles (43.5K) north of Skagway. MEDIA CONTACT: Jeff Brady, LCSS: [email protected] or 907-973- 2354.
