KT-100 SCOPE

The testing of vessels within the scope of this Divisionshall be performed in accordance with the rules inthis Part.

KT-110 REQUIREMENTS FOR SAMPLETEST COUPONS

KT-111 Obtaining Sample Test Coupons

When material is subjected to heat treatment duringfabrication, the test specimens required by the applicablespecification shall be obtained from sample couponswhich have been heat treated in the same manner asthe material, including such heat treatments as wereapplied by the Material Producer before shipment. Therequired tests shall be performed by either the materialproducer or Manufacturer (see KM-220).

KT-112 Heat Treating of Sample TestCoupons

The material used in a vessel or a component shallbe represented by test specimens which have beensubjected to the same manner of heat treatment, includ-

ing postweld heat treatment, as the vessel. The kindand number of tests, and test results, shall be thoserequired by the material specification. The Manufacturershall specify the temperature, time, and cooling ratesthat the material will be subjected to during fabrication.Material from which the specimens are prepared shall beheated at the specified temperature within the tolerancesestablished by the Manufacturer for use in actual fabrica-tion. The total time at temperature shall be at least80% of the total time at temperature during actual heattreatment of the product and may be performed in asingle cycle. Simulation of postweld heat treatmentmay be applied to the test specimen blanks. Localheating such as flame or arc cutting, preheating, orwelding shall not be considered as part of the heattreatment.

KT-113 Exception for Standard PressureParts

An exception to the requirements of KT-111 andKT-112 shall apply to standard items such as describedin KM-102. These may be subjected to postweld heattreatment with the vessel or vessel part without thesame treatment being required of the test specimens.This exception shall not apply to specially designedwrought fittings.
